Hi great video. I have Nikon d5600. But if I have to shoot sports with moving subjects how do I do it with manual focus? If I try to use the autofocus it tries to focus continuously and the noise of the focus is heard. Thank you
@photographersfreedom2 жыл бұрын
Hi. Unfortunately, that is the problem with earlier Nikon DSLRs like the 5600. It's not really possible to film sports or any kind of action with manual focus. You just have to leave the autofocus on and deal with the focus hunting. To combat the noise of the focus motor, you need to use an external mic and position it off-camera a little. Don't use the internal camera mic.

Another question- When using manual focus for vlogging, how do you successfully adjust for where you’re going to stand? My remote is also no help. And sometimes I don’t have a second person.
@photographersfreedom2 жыл бұрын
Place something in the shot where you are going to be and focus on that. You can use a plush toy, a light stand, or anything else. The other technique I use is to stand/sit where I'm going to be in the shot and take a photo either on a timer or with a remote with Auto focus. Check that you are in focus in the photo then switch over to manual focus to make sure the camera doesn't change focus when you start filming. 🙂

@photographersfreedom4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your questions. I can't really say about your first question, I assume it will work fine. If it doesn't, let me know. In answer to your 2nd question; yes, turn the microphone off as that is the setting for the internal microphone. Make sure you set your Manual Sensitivity in the Microphone settings so that the level meter peaks at around -12dB when your playing at your loudest. This way, you won't record it too "hot" and get clipping which will ruin the audio. 🙂

You might have Manual Movie Settings turned on in your Movie Settings Menu. Either switch that to Off, or turn off live view, change your aperture and go back into Live View. 😉
@Darkest_Soul_1873 жыл бұрын
@@photographersfreedom That worked thanks :) Also regarding the mic, I think the option ''microphone off'' switches off the option to record audio altogether, no matter if you're using the internal or external mic. I just got the ME 1 mic for the camera and once I turned the microphone off, there was no audio being recorded, and I wasn't able to adjust the sensitivity of the external mic either. So I guess the camera switches to the external mic automatically once you plug it in?

Hi. Thanks for your comment. I suggest using a 64gb or 128gb sd card. Video takes up a lot of space. You won't get much video onto a 4gb card. Are you using a D5200?

Yes I’m using a D5200 that is a few years old. You mentioned an external mic. Any kind in particular? By the way I pray that you are doing well.
@photographersfreedom5 жыл бұрын
@@LiveItReal that depends on what you are filming, and your budget. For my KZbin videos I use a Boya by-m1 lavalier mic amzn.to/2DoERto which gives good quality audio at a cheap price. The best and probably most popular mic for recording voice is the Rode VideoMic Pro + amzn.to/2OoSPC0. This is a shotgun mic, so it will only record sound that is in front of the mic and won't pic up too much ambient sound from the environment. If you want to record great stereo ambient sound I suggest a Zoom H6 amzn.to/2QSAdMp. I've used this for years. It's great for recording music and as a field recorder. 🙂

Stupid question time! Will I get better videos using my D5200 over my GoPro Hero5? I've always used my camera for shooting stills but never in video mode.
@photographersfreedom5 жыл бұрын
That's actually a great question Mark. I have never owned a Hero 5, but I assume their footage is better than the Hero 3 which I use. I would say that you will get "different" videos from the 2. The GoPro has that unique wide-angle view which you have to edit out in post, whereas the D5200 (depending on what lens you use), will give you a less distorted view. I think there is something about the look of DSLR footage that you just can't beat. I guess it depends on what you are videoing, and what you're using the footage for. I hope that answers your question? 🙂

@photographersfreedom2 жыл бұрын
That sounds like a good deal to me. My D5200 has completed at least 5 times that many shutter actuations, probably more and is still going strong. Depending on the quality of video footage you're after, it would be an ok choice. Remember that it only records in 1080, not 4k. It's also only capable of 60 frames per second so if you're after nice, smooth slow motion shots, I would go for something else. The autofocus is going to "hunt" as well so if you decide to buy it, use manual focus when recording. 🙂

So I bought a Nikon D7500 to make videos for my job, however now I am kind of regretting it because I have been looking up tutorials online and lots of people say the continuous autofocus of moving subjects sucks and that the Canon should have been my best bet. This is unfortunate because I will be shooting a lot of events where there is a lot of moving subjects. So my question for you guys is how can I make this situation better? There's no way I can return the D7500 now, we've invested too much into it. We also purchased a lens for it, the AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR. How is this for shooting video/auto-focusing? If it is more of a photography lens I will return it, as it hasn't arrived yet. Someone has recommended the AF-P DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G as it is more geared toward videography, and has a smooth continuous auto-focus (and it's a lot cheaper). Will this work to help keep the focus on moving subjects? Thanks for your help. Any suggestions are appreciated.
@photographersfreedom5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your question, I'll give it my best shot. As the D7500 has an in-body focus motor, the lens you use should not really make a difference. The Nikon autofocus system is not the best as it will focus-hunt quite a lot. I suggest you either use manual focus and try to do your best with that. Also, try different settings within AF-C. Depending on what you're filming, you might get better results by experimenting with different focus point amounts. I'm not sure what the D7500 has in regards to focus points as I've never used one, but try this and see if it works. Let me know how you go. 🙂
