Copies of your license, insurance, car title and other important documents included in your bag are invaluable, as are the “10 essentials” of backpacking. I also have an external hard drive w/ my family photos. A Duplicate set of your keys. Lastly prepare an evacuation bag & carriers for your pets! Pics of ALL of your stuff for insurance claims!!! Duplicates of Whatever valuables you might lose in a disaster, are also absolutely invaluable. Great idea to do a trial run yearly! Your side by side bag is an invaluable addition to any bug out bag! Love this video. I have always had a go-bag. I have a flash drive with copies of titles, cash sale seeds and any other important documents and papers plus an external hard drive with all my photos and videos. My husband and son always made fun of me for having a go-bag but when my son became an adult, he made a go-bag. When a construction site across from his apartment blew up and they had to evacuate quickly, he grabbed his wife, pets and go-bag. He told me he learned from me to be prepared. Made my day that he and his wife were safe and were able to get out quickly thanks to his go-bag.

I live in Kentucky, where we've had serious tornadoes and flooding this year. To top that, we are on a major fault line and we've been having tremors over the last few months. I keep a GO bag in my closet (my tornado safety zone) with essentials for me, and food, water and a litter box for my cat, along with his carrier. I really need to have a backpack ready for evacuation -- such a good idea. The lightweight dry bags are new to me: my old camping gear has those heavy vinyl dry bags - too heavy for a backpack. Thank you for sharing this! I am furiously taking notes! Cheers

Hurricanes, flooding, and tsunami's were a the main threats where I grew up. I remember blackouts, boiling water, using candles and flashlights, taping/boarding up windows, school drills, and leaving home to find higher ground and safe centers. As a child, I thought it was kind of fun. Now I realize that having to bug in or out is a stressful situation. I started seriously prepping when I was gathering items for my son's college emergency bag just before the pandemic. You can imagine a lot of scenarios when you're separated from your family and home. It's tough to outfit a family and have contingencies, but it's a work in progress. I stumbled upon your channel while watching a mix of travel, emergency/survival videos, and backpacking videos. I LOVE discovering cool and useful gear, making kits, and having backups! All the Side by Side items are great for travel, edc, outdoor activities, and emergency kits! You are savvy, spot on, and thorough! Thank you for your informative and resourceful content.

I've also got a go-bag set up for our animals. We aren't leaving without then so we have rolling go bag and a carrier with a trolly to put over it. (Both can become backpacks if necessary). If including pets in your exit strategy (you should, they're your family) remember food, harness, photos (actual photos in case they go missing and there's no internet), blankets, and toys to keep them calm. From experience, taking care of little animals sometimes is all the distraction you need to keep you focused on the task at hand and not the mayhem of the moment.

However three of my immediate family members who all live in different cities within a 1 hour circumference drive of my home have had their properties destroyed by a tornado. That tells me I definitely need to have my emergency kit fully packed, and ready to grab at a moments notice. I really appreciate how practical your gear list is. I think it's much more in line with the kind of emergency most people are likely to encounter. I used to work in a shelter and there's a lot of small things people don't think of that can really change your experience. One thing I would suggest you add is disposable gloves. I like latex because they fit better and don't come with irritating powder. They are great for all kinds of things you might not think of, not just first aid. cooking (at home or camping), cleaning, changing your tire... they work better than hand sanitizer.

I have watched countless videos on this topic- none as comprehensive as yours. Thank you. I’m in the process of completing a bug out bag - upgrading the contents as I can within my budget. Your Amazon lists have helped me create my wish list.

You are a wealth of info. I am trying to put together some sort of emergency bag for me and my husband. My heart goes out to all the thousands if not millions of people all over this nation who have gone thru hell due to disasters. I just feel that I should have some sort of go to bag if anything should happen that I need to evacuate.
@TheoryofSimple2 жыл бұрын
Hi Corrie! Thank you so much and I’m so glad you are getting an emergency go bag ready. My mom and dad were evacuated from their home due to forest fire last year for six weeks. We were blessed because I was able to bring them to my house and they were safe with me but they were many who evacuated their homes with nothing because the fire happened so quickly and unfortunately they came back to nothing. There’s a video on my channel that shows what the area look like when we went back. We were just so fortunate that our home was untouched by the fire.

I need to create a to-go bag along with a hiking kit since I often travel on backroads and , in the dark. The side by side though I think I would keep with my “regular“ travel gear since it has the rfid protection.

Hi Karen! Yeah you really should have extra stuff if you’re going to be on back roads especially some stuff in your car. I’m gonna get another side-by-side document so that I can keep one in my go bag and have another one that I just take with me when I travel. Then I don’t have to worry about switching documents in an out or forgetting something. Thanks so much for watching and commenting and good luck in the giveaway!

Firstly, would love to get insight on your first aid kit in a future video. Loved all this foresight in your emergency bag, discovered useful things I'm lacking. The side by side giveaway is very useful, I especially like the waterproof, RFID travel pouch to have on the go travel for the extra protection against water & thieves, it goes way above just a place to stash cash & personal documents with the added protection. Always good to have a dry bag for the extra goodies you can't live without that you don't want water to get into. These items you are giving away are all much needed items for a traveler or in an emergency so you have extra peace of mind you are outfitted with essentials. Thank you for thinking about your viewers safety & protection, how thoughtful of you. Very good content in your videos that I always enjoy learning from you. When my son moved out of state, I created a couple of packs for emergencies for him & us so we are all prepared. I now see a few things were missed so I will be on the hunt to get those items. Thanks again for sharing!🤗

Thank you for showing this. It really got me thinking about what my family would need in such a situation and how to be a bit more prepared and maybe even somewhat comfortable. Hi Rico, so glad you found my channel! it’s taken us a couple of painful turns to learn this as well! I’ll put a mountain house we have lost power for as many as 10 days. And when you’re on well water it makes it very difficult to get clean water when your pump won’t work without electricity! We’ve since gotten a generator but we’ve also been evacuated due to forest fires for six weeks and that teaches a lot of lessons! I’m certainly happy that you are getting a go bag together for your family. Not sure how old your children are but I would recommend that everybody have a go bag of their own for their own clothing and some personal items that would keep them safe and comfortable. Thank you so much for watching and commenting and I look forward to your feedback on my other videos!

Ever since I discovered this channel, I eagerly await the new videos. I’ve been setting 2023 goals and want to go solo camping. I can think of numerous uses for the side by side travel kit. I already keep an emergency backpack in my car, so I would add the Side by Side kit to that to stash an extra credit card, money , and prescriptions. One of the items I keep in my car backpack is an emergency battlefield grade tourniquet. Actually I have a couple of these in the car. I was the first citizen responder to a fatal car accident several years ago. Although a tourniquet would not have made a difference that day since the COD was blunt trauma. I added them to my emergency kit. I also keep a fire extinguisher in my vehicle. Emergency triangles are important, too. The accident was on the Interstate, and sent truck drivers down the road with theirs to get traffic to move over to keep us safe and to clear a path for EMS. I also keep a sticker on my back window indicating I have an extinguisher and first aid kit.

You are just amazing! I love all your videos because they are useful and really prepares you for anything at any time. This one in particular is my favorite because it has all of the things that will get you and your family through in times of an emergency, and it covers specifically survival. I know that most people do even have an emergency exit plan because they have the mentality that "it will never happen to me/us" but the reality is that it very well happen to us and if we are not prepared, we are not going to survive the initial shock of displacement and safety. I have mentioned this before that my kids think that I am crazy when I tell them to always be prepare (because I am), and sadly 80% or higher of the population are not. Thank you for making videos like this that are full of information, substance and alertness for people to be prepare for disasters. ❤❤❤❤❤

Elys, we are cut from the same cloth! I know some people look at me like I’m a little bit of a freak about things but I’ve had enough things happen to me in my life And learn the hard knock lessons. Yes I ask people why would you have groceries or dental insurance or insurance or health insurance when you don’t think you were going to need it. But it’s that one time when you’ve had an accident or broken a tooth that you are so happy that you have some insurance. This pack is insurance and in a disaster situation could be the only thing that’s left of your life as you knew it. Fantastic! I have made a get home bag and it is time to replenish and update it for sure, as it is the awful 5 year anniversary of the fire that took my home in Sonoma county where I lost everything I owned but my car and a few clothes as I was visiting out of town when the fire happened. It was devastating and a life changing event as along with many I am still trying to catch up. Anyway we learn from tragedy. My brother and family 2 years later also lost his beautiful home in the other huge Sonoma county fire so, it is something close to my heart this being prepared subject. If I was lucky to be chosen I would use the winnings to update my prep bag. Good luck to everyone who enters. And thank you Eunice for the tips and the opportunity to enter and chance to win!

Julie-joy, i’m so sorry to hear about your loss in the Sonoma fire and for your brothers loss as well. It’s unimaginable. And many of us think we don’t live in a fire area but it doesn’t take much especially with home so close to each other to just burn down a whole neighborhood. That’s why when you’re not home it’s good to have some documents like your passport with you so that if something happens to your home while you’re not there you have those documents at least to prove who you are and save them from the fire. Wishing you the best of luck in the giveaway!

@@TheoryofSimple I appreciate your thoughts and even now I go thru plans on how to make sure transitions from disasters can go smother if need be but primarily not to be caught in them is the hope. Yes being in densely populated areas are problematic at times in a disaster situation like a fire. Our homes were on quite a bit of acreage one being on a 2 acer plot close to town and the onther on a 30 acer plot on a ridge top so no homes near by and yes fire was never something we ever thought would be a concern until it was... so yes since then a go bag alway s near by to grab at a moments notice and the contents always being rethought of carefully and updated ... Thank you for spreading the tios to more people that don't think of this important idea especially now as the world changes.

I love your idea for a channel Eunice, and I liked and subscribed. I usually view disasters as a likely time for mandatory camping in my backyard, and assume (bad idea) that in this area, the main dangers are no power, water, fire, or quake, and maybe flood, so Im not as prepared for total evacuation. You have great tips. I keep as many batteries charged as I can at all time, and a lot of power “bricks.” Time to buy a tent. Finally someone turned us on to self amalgamating tape.
