Also I realized when I was editing that I didn't put my makeup removing wipes in yet (because I had to order them and they aren't here yet) but those will go in as well so I can take off my makeup before bed on the plane. I hope you enjoyed the video! Can't wait to bring you along for all the adventures!

Two things - all bathrooms I visited in Japan had toilet paper, but almost none have paper towels and many did not have a hand dryer either. I brought a little towel in my backpack to dry hands. And, most shops charge for plastic bags and there are virtually no trash cans in public areas so it would be a great idea to take along your little shopping bag to either put purchases in or to carry around trash (empty cups, bottles, wrappers) until you can find a trash can somewhere!

Money savers: A bit of TP in a ziplock bag. Grocery store produce bags for shoes. (Bonus: this allows you to wrap shoes individually to fit it available space.) Carry a washcloth somewhere to use as a hand towel. On a recent trip, I saw people doing this and thought “why didn’t I think of that!?”

Excellent video. I love the paper copy of important numbers. I take a picture of our suitcases. I always travel with Imodium. I read a tip to put a large ziplock bag in the seat pocket and then put your stuff in there. I bring chocolates for the stewards and stewardesses on a long flight. (Maybe some for me…definitely snacks!!!!). I take Melatonin to calm my nervous flying woes. Bring Tylenol, Bonine and gum.

I am sending my two sons, aged 25 and 22, to Japan for a month in May. My oldest and I went together for two weeks in 2019 and it was amazing! They are total opposites so it will be great or a huge mistake. 😂 If you can work a ryokan stay into your trip it was a memorable highlight as was the Tsukiji fish market in Tokyo; you can easily spend an entire day there sampling incredible eats. You will want to bring home one of those amazing Japanese toilets home with you as once you experience them it is hard to go back!! Part of their college savings was reserved for international travel as we firmly believe it is an important part of their education. I wish you happy travels and cannot wait for the follow up video!

That's a good collection. I'm going on a 7 hour flight in a couple of weeks. My comfort-entertainment items are: headphones, Kindle, Ipad (have streamed series on it), charger for those devices, a small notebook (even though I have an iPad, I like to write notes on paper); I bring one non-bulky jacket in case it gets cold, snacks - lots of wrapped snacks. (Of course I always keep my meds with me. and a travel size toothbrush w toothpaste.). I'll probably buy a neck pillow at the airport. - But my most important items my entertainment ones! - I had a miserable flight a long time ago before iPads and kindles existed. I did a flight to Ireland from the US, and had put my paper book in the side panel of my suitcase, intending to take it out before I checked my suitcase. Well, I forgot to get that book and didn't realize it until I was on the plane. I had to beg for magazines - at least they had magazine back then. So, I'm hyper vigilant to have hours of entertainment because I can't sleep on a plane.

Hi, Jen. I came across your video and your GOING TO JAPAN title caught my eye. LOL! Excited to see that you’re going to Japan. My whole family lives in Tokyo. I was just there last fall after 3 years of not being able to go. Looks like you are well prepared…and I learn something from you (toothbrush product)! Actually, my husband is there now…it’s warm. #FamilyBusiness He’s been going up + down the main island (Honshu) using the JR Pass + enjoying the last of the cherry blossoms. #Jealous Some Comments (sorry so long): SUICA IC Card - great to have! Some vending machines, taxis, and convenience stores will accept payment. Mask - good idea to wear them in busy + crowded areas. But don’t worry if you run out...they have ALL KINDS of MASKS. When you go shopping, you’ll be amazed. LOL! #MaskCountry Prescription glasses - get one done in Japan (ie. JINS). I got 2 pairs in 40 mins. + under $100 (well, I have bought one on sale). Liquids - keep your liquids in a bag. I’m PreTSA but in Japan, I had to pull the bag out when coming back to the US. Take your passport when you’re shopping = duty-free YES for slip-on shoes. In case, you have to take your shoes off in places. Disposable slippers = we get them from some planes + Japanese hotels. good for those plane bathrooms. We throw them away on the plane, after landing. Public bathroom = bring paper tissue +/or handkerchief (when I was there last fall, all the hand dryers were closed due to the Pandemic…not sure about now with limits being lifted). So sorry this comment is LONG! I'm going to subscribe + enjoy Japan through your eyes :) Safe Travels to you all! ~MargieH fm Chicago

I will bring my prescription which I never would have thought of! So smart. And YES thank you for the confirmation about the liquids. You just never know with international travel and I figured it was better to err on the safe side and be a total "rule follower" LOL. I'm so glad to have you here! Oh and yes, I am totally stalking the weather and it is all over the place - I haven't made my final clothing decisions but looking like it's going to be warm weather for sure. Thanks again!

Make sure to see the Marunouchi side of Tokyo Station...the brick facade is BEAUTIFUL + a 15 min walk to the Imperial Palace grounds....OK, I'll stop typing now...LOL!!

So excited for you and excited to see your videos about Japan! I'm sure you will have an AMAZING time!! I would love to see a follow up video on what you actually did and didn't use during the flight. My recent longest flight ever was to the Philippines, 15+ hours and as someone who has anxiety, I didn't know how I was going to survive it. But it honestly wasn't as bad as I had anticipated. The one thing that really sucked though was that Philippines Airline doesn't use standard ports for audio in their entertainment system. 😭 So I couldn't use my Airfly, Bose, or airpods with it. It required their own two pronged headphones that were terrible. I was SO bummed! I went to Japan in 2019 and you'll find a majority of Japanese people are mask wearers. It's like they've just always known how GROSS people can be and don't want their germs LOL I don't blame them and I now feel the same!!!

1. I appreciate you continually mentioning that the stuff that you're packing is what works for you what works for somebody else might be different. I feel that a lot of times on social media we see people going " you HAVE to have XXX" , and it's nice to recognize that everyone travels different and may need different things. My best friend had a child on the spectrum and her packing for trips looks WAY different. But it's what works for her. 2. I would love to hear your comments when you're in Tokyo Disney, about whether you think some of the rides there are the same design as rides in the other parks. I believe that it's in Tokyo Disney that the Star wars ride, is exactly the same ride as the guardians of the Galaxy cosmic rewind in Disney world. Different"skin", but same ride design. I also believe that the journey to the center of the Earth ride is the same as the dinosaur ride in animal Kingdom.

Pen story time! In 2013 I traveled with my then boyfriend to Japan. We went through customs separately, I went first. Once you were through, you couldn‘t see back into the line because of a wall/angle change. I waited, and waited, and waited. 20min and my only thought was „how did I possibly lose the 6‘2 guy in Japan?“ and „Crap. He has all the hotel information“. He finally pops out, turns out he tried to fill out a customs form with a pencil and he got sent back to redo it. I still tease him any time he has to fill something official out. You are going to have an awesome time!

I don’t travel much, so any information would be appreciated. I was curious of your take on that. Thanks! Safe flight and be well! 💕

@@JoyfulLivingwithJenLefforge Yes, I think so too. My husband had emergency open heart surgery and we lost a lot of value in our flights and Disney tickets. I need to look into that the next time I travel. Thank you for responding to my question. Be well! 💕

Twelve hours on a plane - that’s normal for some of us! I live in Australia so it’s five hours to pretty much anywhere (Perth for example). Unless I’m flying to Melbourne (1 hour) or Perth (5 hours), I’m usually flying to Europe via Singapore (8 hours), Dubai (14 hours) or San Francisco (15 hours). And of course, we’re still only slightly more than half way to Europe. Even with connecting flights the shortest time from Sydney to Europe or London we’ve ever had is about 25 hours straight… so 12 hours is nothing. Sorry! I hate every single minute of it and we always fly cattle-class as we call it, for obvious reasons. I usually check my international sized carryon because we have a horrendous 7kg weight limit so my backpack usually has the leftovers that don’t fit - my hearing aides and batteries, electric toothbrush and charger, my headphones and charger, my toiletries and cosmetics (very small amounts of everything), medications and all the usual …passports, wallet etc. other absolute “must haves” include my iPad (my absolute favourite possession ever), a tiny notebook and a small bag of peanut butter M&Ms for when I just can’t bear it any more. Like I said, it’s a long way to anywhere and these just make the flight almost bearable again. And when I really can’t bear it any more, I jump up and down at the back of the plane or hang out with the air hostesses for an hour.

Great video of what you need for comfort in flight. I also take my own lightweight blankie that my feet fit into..it folds up to almost nothing and fits in my backpack next to my back! I too wear contacts and take a small TSA compliant bottle of sterile saline solution. DGL (buy at heath food store) is a life saver for "gas" on flights. Having been a flight attendant for years, there is nothing worse than seeing people bent over in pain with gas....this is an enzyme that works right away.

These are great travel tips, I would only add Ayr nasal gel it's the only clinically tested product that decreases chances of getting sick while traveling by plane (it basically keeps your airways moist, ciliated cells doing their thing 👌) I went to Tokyo/Kyoto for 2 wks in 2017 and I would go back in a heartbeat, simply not enough time to see it all 💓 one of my favorite trips, so magical, ridiculously easy to get around and safe and absolutely DELICIOUS! and you can leave most skincare, sunscreen behind they have the BEST stuff there (anessa, biore, Nivea) If you see this and you're still there, highly recommend checking a box of clothes and maybe buying an inexpensive suitcase if you're in Tokyo... Just so you can bring back as many goodies as possible 😍🤩🫶🏼🥂 also most of the kit Kat flavors are not great but they do make fun gifts, I was a fan of roasted tea of all things! Have a wonderful trip 🎉🎉🎉

I take HotHands Insole Foot Warmers with me. Each packet will last 9 hours once opened, and they help me to not freeze on long flights. When my feet are not icy, I can relax and even sleep on planes. (Don't forget to pack some for the return flight.)

jen-i adore you and your content and hope your trip to japan is everything you have dreamed of! just a couple of fun tips for long, long haul flights: i always pack a couple of doggie poop bags for any wrappers/tissues/trash i may accumulate during the flight....the flight crew loves me for it! i know you want to wear your cute and cuddly jumpsuit but even in business class the bathrooms are disgusting after 12 hours....you may want to re-think that one? and if any of your listeners are curious the anker noise-canceling headphones are awesome, too! have an incredible trip and we will all look forward to hearing about it!

it appears that Away is no longer selling that particular backpack - pity. I have the smaller one, but it is not suitable for this type of item - better as a daybag. I do have the 2 Everywhere bags - and I love them both. The older version I prefer for getting into when it's under the seat, the newer one is more difficult to open when you are seated - unless you are in biz class.

Are you serious with all this superfluous stuff? It’s twelve hours with a LO in LA! You don’t have time to actually use this junk. It took you 20 plus minutes to describe all of it. The Bedouin have a theory; never own what you cannot put on your back. You have taken “your back” to a mega-extreme. It exhausts me to think about it.

Thid is coming at a great time for me! We are booked on an Oceania cruise that starts in Bangkok and ends in Tokyo. We will have about 5 stops in Japan. I am so excited! Ours leaves in the first part of June and is 18 days long. We are flying in premium economy as business class was going to cost almost $40,000 for both of us. We’re 85 and 77. This was on our bucket list. I will love to see what you’re taking and how it works out. This will help me a lot with my packing! Thanks, Jen.

Those slippers look a-game! Very curious to hear how the new Delta class goes. I also recommend looking up the Washington Post's interview with Mineko Iwasaki, whose story provides much of the basis of Memoirs of a Geisha. A lot of it was, if you'll pardon the phrase, lost in translation, and she has a chance there to fill in some important context, as well as talk about what, culturally, Golden just plain got wrong.
