OE coil packs are arguably the best to use. Your better off leaving the factory 3X,XXX mile ones then the junk aftermarket ones. If you want to sell the OE ones, let me know. A magnet is ideal as well for removing the plugs if you aren't using a plug socket. What was the plug gap?

I always remove the spark plugs with a magnet after you loosen them. It works great
@BenFenner3 жыл бұрын
1) Put the oil cap on 180-degrees from how you have it so it reads the same direction as the other engine cover text. 2) If you develop what sounds like rod knock in ~5k miles or 6-18 months it will almost assuredly be the spark plugs that have come loose. Torquing them to spec on these S52 engines leaves them too loose, and they work themselves off. I have torqued mine as high as 40 foot-lbs (yes, that high) but recommend ~30 ft-lbs to be on the safe side if you end up having to re-torque.

Gotta use a magnet to pull out those plugs, the best way to do it in my opinion. Spark plug sockets are finicky, and pliers don't always fit. (like in your case)
@ChocolatePuppies3 жыл бұрын
I used to feel the same way, my socket would always stay stuck on after loosening the plug and come off the extension until I got this swivel style extension spark plug socket with a magnet from advanced auto the employee told me about it was about 12 bucks one of my favorite tools I own now 👌🏼

Matt, just a suggestion. Leave to oil cap on until you have completed your work. The last thing you would want is to drop something into the engine.
@stevep48322 жыл бұрын
You have to take the oil cap off to remove the plastic cover covering the coils and spark plugs. Once you pull the plastic cover off, you should definitely put the oil cap back on before proceeding. You will have to pull the cap back off to put the plastic cover back on though.

I'm curious where the ground wire goes on your front coil. I've seen some e36's where there is a ground cable connecting all 6 coils and others where just cylinder 3 and 4 are connected. In our 95 M3, there's an audible wine coming from the speakers as the RPM increases. Doesn't always happen but I suppose there's a ground loose somewhere.
