Hey! Saw a lot of comments regarding k secret actual concentration. Can you please clarify if it is actually the equivalent of boj instead of the ordinary? I saw someone in the comments that want to move up from g&g 1 to k secret, but this might be a “move down”. I myself just ordered the k secret one because i wanted a higher concentration than the g&g a game. So, how is it in the end? Am i going down or up with this serum? Would really appreciate a clarification from you 🙏

Did some more research and found k secret giving this description for the retinal serum: “Formulated with 2% Retinal Liposome (0.02% Pure Retinal) and Black Ginseng, this serum promotes a youthful, radiant complexion, addressing skin texture, hydration, and the reduction of wrinkles.” So, it’s the equivalent of boj, not the ordinary 😊

I love this stuff! I lather the Ordinary's most rich moisturizer on after and haven't had any dryness. My skin looks so much better at 51 than it did in my twenties. Not one wrinkle and no more acne!

@@_Laura_Marie I find the Ordinary's version the best. I use Avene's as well since I paid a lot for it and still have some, but the Ordinary's seems better to me. A little goes a long way !

It seems that the Ordinary saw the success of G&G retinal at 0.1 strength and by releasing this they are going to take all of us who wished for a stronger formulation but with the similar texture/application. Already ordered this, hopefully it will give better results as my skin got used to G&G and plateaued

Hi Rob. I found that K-Secret liposome retinal during my Yesstyle stalking (I absolutely scour and go deep on that site 😂). I knew 2% complex didn’t mean 2% pure retinaldehyde, but couldn’t find that info anywhere. I asked them on Amazon and the seller (KSecret Official, so I assume that is actually the brand) said it’s 0.02% retinaldehyde. That concentration is much more in line with what I’d expect from a Korean brand. If you have a direct channel to them, you might want to double check/confirm the 0.2% concentration you reference. @kristinjohansson9031 I know its far from the same amount in them.. but I was talking about retinal liposomes.. like both the k-secret and BoJ has. If the K-secret one has lower amount than what they claim because it's liposomes, then the BoJ retinal eye cream is much weaker than what I originally thought. I thought it had 0.02% retinal, but since it's liposomes, then it must be much weaker than that.

BOJ eye cream is 0.02% retinaldehyde, as far as I know. So is the KSecret serum, according to their answer on Amazon. 0.02% is enough to do something over time, but it is very gentle. I have unbelievably sensitive/reactive skin, and even I tolerate 0.05% retinal basically nightly.

For the ppl in the EU: I recently discovered the brand „missalice“. They are based in Slovenia and offer a Retinal in 3 different strengths (0.05, 0.15 and 0.2 which would be comparable to the Ordinary strength). Prices are a lil higher than the Ordinary but still very affordable. Formula looks very good. Has anyone tried them? Ive only tried a Vitamin C Serum from them and like it so far!

Very good review. I love the new retinal from The Ordinary, I’m using it every second night as I’m a seasoned retinol user and I am loving the results. I think The Ordinary have been very late bringing this to market and I also think they will see how it performs sales wise and then produce a larger size.

I was initially disappointed about the size of the retinal container but when you compare it to the Avene and the medik8 I think I’ll definitely try it. But yes I hope,they come out with the 30 ml to prevent packing waste. I’m currently using Naturium looking forward to jumping up in strength. 😀🇨🇦

I just bought it. I have used retinols from the Ordinary before. And the hydrating moisturizer. I also ordered a cleanser and am thinking about ordering one of the toners as well. I will definitely use an oil and/ or a moisturizer after the emulsion

Great options, thank you for sharing x Just a word of caution; Regarding the Seol 1988 alternative, if you look at the ingredients, retinal is very far down in the ingredient list (like the 20th+), so it’s very unlikely it’s 2%retinal (it’s most likely 2%complex). All the formulas with 2%retinal list retinal as the 5th -10th ingredient (at most! Sometimes it’s listed as the 2nd or 3rd ingredient,for a 20% retinal formulation). All the bests!!!

Its small but if you want to try it then better to start with a smaller cheaper size. Also, you're supposed to start slow so a smaller package may encourage that. And it won't go bad before you use it up

I used the geek & gorgeous retinal and avene. It is very sensitizing for my skin. I am now using Medik 8 retinal and i'm loving it. Thank you for upur recommendation Rob. Of all the retinal i've tried this one doesn't trigger my sensitivity. Though very pricey. I would like to see K secret retinal after i finish my medik 8. Kindly do review on k secret.

So back in January of this year, The Ordinary sent out an email stating they were discontinuing some products to make way for new ones. The Granactive Retinoid Emulsion 2% in Squalane was one of the products they got rid of, and this retinal serum is what I believe took its place. I do think they should’ve brought this out in the standard 30ml size and not a 15ml pump. The brand as a whole is ok, but in my opinion they could do better. For one, they have consistently every January for the last 3 years raised their prices. So for them to come out with a replacement product that is half the size of the one they discontinued is kind of snarky. Having said that, I still use some of their products and love the ones I have and look forward to trying this one out.

Hm, but isn't there a lot of controversy coming out recently about the stability of retinal as an ingredient? It's way less stable than retinol - I heard them talking about this on chemist confessions podcast as well, and how skeptical they were of most retinal formulations out there. I'd love to hear what the ordinary did to achieve a balance of stability while also allowing the ingredient to release in the skin.

@@kristinjohansson9031 Right, and I also wonder about the efficacy of encapsulation to begin with. Retinal by itself in a formula has been shown to completely degrade in a matter of minutes and hours. The only research I know of testing encapsulation only extended that by a few days, not months like what is labeled on bottles. I don't trust the G&G formula much either for this reason. The science doesn't really make sense to me, and there are so many reports of this formula doing nothing. Medik8 is definitely the most trustworthy of the retinals with their double encapsulation technology, but then that raises questions about how it can be released in the skin. Additionally, I don't think there is anything in the research out there as far as I know that backs up these claims that it's "10x more effective" than retinol. To me, Retinal is just way too new and needs a lot more research. Most of the products seem to be based on hokey marketing claims. I'd rather use a high strength retinol or 0.025% tretinoin, which have been studied for many years.

Hi Rob! Love your channel and all your great reviews! I have been using Tret for 8 years. I started at the 0.05 % and over time have moved to the 0.1% every night. I have no irritation at all anymore because I worked up slowly. I use a lot of The Ordinary products and I’m wondering if this product would be an improvement/upgrade to what I’m currently using, in terms of potency and anti aging. I’m 58 years old and my skin is very youthful looking, so I’m lucky, but I also know that prolonged use of Tret has definitely been the key. I now use the one from youth to the people (0.15%), and I am definitely noticing a difference now. I think it would take two tubes of product to start noticing a difference.

I’m confused about the percentage of the Seoul 1988 one - it says it’s 2% not .2% and I’ve read that it’s a mixture so it’s actually very mild and has an actual retinal percentage of less than 1% - the beauty of joseon retinal eye cream is also listed at 2% but they say that it’s a mixture and is less than 1% actual retinal so that it is safe around the eyes :/ Just want to clarify, all the info is super helpful! Use a ton of moisturizer after and during the morning with other skin care and your skin will be fine. It's much better than the Avene RetinAL in my opinion and I'd rather have it smaller. You only need a pea size and I'd rather buy a new bottle fresh. I've had so many products go bad because I didn't use them quickly enough.

I’ve been using the Geek & Gorgeous .1% retinal, and I’m psyched to graduate to .2% from the Ordinary. We’ll see what happens.

Ooo I wondered if you’d discovered the K-Secret Retinal yet, I didn’t realise it was so strong. I managed to get my hands on the snail + rice water but haven’t tried it yet as I also got the Mizon snail essence which I’ve opened first. It’s so much nicer than the Cosrx IMO, not shiny! I don’t think I’m tempted by TO, I think I’d rather stick with low strength tretinoin. Thanks for giving us an honest review and comparison so we can weigh up and work out what’s best for us. ❤

Hello Rob, did you try Liquid Happiness by Skintra? It's a 0.3% retinal in an oil form and quite cheap (about 15 euro). I'm using it on my neck & chest, I'd love to hear your opinion about it, I hope you will test it and let us know! :) About The Ordinary's retinal, I definitely agree with you, 15 ml is way too little for a retinal serum, make it 30 ml (and don't double the price)! I'm surprised, on their video they recommend to gradually increase to 2 times a week only 🧐. That's way too little. I have really sensitive skin and experience zero irritation with retinal products, I doubt one could only use this twice a week. The Maelove serum has fragrance and alcohol denat, unfortunately :(

Can’t wait to try it. I am a bit bummed out that it’s only 15ml for $15. So I have to buy two if I want a standard 1fl ounce for $30. I’ll try it for sure but I might still stick with my Naturium retinal 0.1 for $32 and for 50ml/1.7 fl ounces.

Hi Rob, I prefer to try out the 0.1% retinal that is a little more of step up before I await for the 0.2% retinal... I am already using the 0.05% retinal for 2 years and am feeling fine with the step up... 😊

I am super happy about this release but very disappointed with the % of retinal so many people going to jump from the ordinary retinol to retinal & not realise how different it is which is why different strengths is a MUST

Hi Rob, off topic but I have a question that maybe could be a future video. Have you tried, or do you have an opinion on Niod NEC? Do you think it has any special properties that can truly help with aging neck/jawline firmness, and if not, are there any products that do? I've been using it for years, but mainly in a "hope in a tube" kind of way, without any real knowledge whether these ingredients are doing what I'm hoping they're going to do. Anyway, thanks for considering! xx.

@@MadAboutSkin bought the medik8 retinal face and eye cream in 0.3. It's much less irritating than the retinol I was using from l'oréal. I've got fair skin which is quite sensitive so steady is the only way for me.

i think it made sense for them to launch such a high potency product because there are already so many amazing and affordable retinoids on the market. instead of reinventing the wheel and competing in a saturated market, they offered something new and unique that nobody else has. with 0.2%, they've captured the entire market share of people who want a bit more but can't get a prescription. they can always add less potent concentrations over time to become a one-stop shop for people, but i think 0.2% was a smart move. i switched :)

👍I was hoping they would have multiple strengths, but am very interested in trying the 0.2%. I use G&G 0.1% currently. I am excited to have an additional strength before trying tretinoin. I have dry/dehydrated mature skin and rosacea which can increase my sensitivity to skincare ingredients, or not, because it rarely makes sense and I have to this that formulation is the key.

Hey, Rob. I really like the Original products I've used. Probably wont try the new serum. I have a question for you, though. I'm really trying to find the highest over the counter strength in a retinal. I'm just at a standstill and I've tried so many. Any suggestions. I'm even using the VT Reedle shot. Nothing. I think I'll up it to the 300. Anyway, I'd love any suggestions you may have.
