I actually emailed the ordinary a couple years ago and described my skin and sent a photo of my horrible acne. They emailed me back a custom regimen. I ordered everything and my acne that I had been struggling with for tens years almost disappeared in a month.

@Royal Haroon Hi! My best advice is to understand the mechanism behind acne, and focus on eliminating different parts of this mechanism. You need a couple of things to create acne, and sometimes these things happen because of genetics, hormones, puberty, skincare habits etc. Whatever the cause is: try to not stress about it, and teach yourself how acne is formed and how to eliminate some of these parts, so it will be harder for your skin to have acne. What worked for me (33 years old and have had acne for a longgggg time): benzoyl peroxide to kill P. Acnes bacteria. But don’t leave it on overnight because that will cause irritation!! Get a 5% facewash or gel and leave that in your face for 2 minutes in the morning and then wash off. That will kill the bacteria that is essential in forming acne. BP does not have to be expensive. You can try niacinamide which might help with oil production, but that did nothing for me. You can use salicylic acid to clear the pores of oil, but that was always a bit too irritating for me. Instead: glycolic acid works great for me! That helps with clearing the pores a bit as well, as well as exfoliating the dead skin cells and keratin plugs which all helps with keeping pores cleared. So you want to mainly tackle bacteria and build up of oil/dead skin, if you find products that help you with that - that you like - you will be doing a great job already! Remind yourself that you can’t do more than you can, and what is left beyond that is just what it is. Gut health and diet might be important too, but so is not stressing too much, so just try to stay interested in learning about skin and health, and understanding that you can only do your best! You are wonderful the way you are, it’s okay to want to grow and make the best of things and yourself, but don’t forget to breathe and love yourself :). Ps. A mild basic facewash and (SPF) moisturizer is also important, so that you can clean your face without drying it out and moisturize without clogging pores. I personally really love Cerave foaming facewash and Cerave Pm facial moisturizing lotion. I didn’t like The Ordinary moisturizer, but I do love their glycolic acid toner, lactid acid serum and the red peeling solution. You will definitely get glowing skin from these! Paula’s choice SPF products are great for me but a bit more pricey.

Hey guys. Fellow doc over here. But from another country. Just wanted to point out, that these “higher” prices for medical grade acids (and your comments about it being expensive because of research and pharmaceutical monopoly)… are only that high in your country (and maybe a few others). Take for example Insulin. You can buy it for 7 bucks in my city. I’ve heard it can cost 300 USD or more in the Us. That’s not the price of research. That’s the price of pharmaceutical companies abuse. So, 🙌🏻 for The Ordinary and you, for teaching people about their options!!

I just want to say that because of you wonderful guys, I added azelaic acid into my skincare routine. My skin tends on the dry side. I get annoying hormonal acne in my chin area. Sometimes it looks like I have a red beard. Even when I don't have a breakout, the area is marred by hyperpigmentation. Aannnndd I'm pregnant. So no retinoids or salicylic acid. :( Adding azelaic acid, which I got from The Ordinary due to affordability and I really wanted *this* particular ingredient, has helped tremendously with the acne which has all but disappeared and the hyperpigmentation. THANK YOU for talking about azelaic acid, and thanks for featuring this product, because it really is affordable.

The only products I now use are from the Ordinary. I use the Organic Cold Pressed Rose Hip Oil, Niacinamide, Ascorbyl Glucoside Solution. And twice a week I use the AHA/BHA Peel and I gotta say my skin has NEVER looked better. These products are absolute miracle workers and I’m so glad I finally discovered them for myself. I will NEVER use anything else. And the best thing is that you don’t need to use a lot from each of these products so they last a good while. I use my Niacinamide once a day and I’ve had it for almost 2 months!!! It’s amazing how far a lil amount truly goes a long way with these serums. 2-3 drops max is all you need from each serum.

Perfect timing for this video for me as I just purchased several products from The Ordinary - retinol, glycolic toner, niacinamide, lactic acid, and hyaluronic acid. So far have been really liking them but also want the pro advice because their lineup can be a bit daunting with so, so many options. The pricepoint is INSANE when you can get a complete skincare regimen with all the bells and whistles for less than the price of many drugstore brand individual products. As others have chimed in, I’m all for you guys doing more reviews for this brand. I’m a huge lactic acid fan after years of youthful trauma from that damn apricot scrub (*groan*) and the L.A. The niacinamide "irritation" I have experienced when my skin is more sensitive, I get with CeraVe PM and The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% is the same. Mild temporary tingling and flushing/redness that is all gone in a few minutes. The difference is that the 10% makes such a huge difference on my pores that I don't feel the need to use a pore minimizing primer. About a month after I had run out, I hated my skin and my pores looked huge. I went back to the serum and started to love my skin again. I would love them to do studies at the higher % as I feel it makes a huge difference with pore visibility/pore size.

Argh! Was so hoping you’d talk about the TO Granactive Retinol. Where it sits in the Retinol family, and who it’s good for. Retinols are a bit counterintuitive in which ‘strengths’ they are. Thanks for the rest though, I put on my Salicylic acid mask while I watched the video!
@Olive_O_Sudden
@Olive_O_Sudden 3 жыл бұрын
Retinols are good for pretty much everything (acne, aging, pigmentation), but finding formulations that don't cause irritation is the challenge. The granactives are supposed to be much less irritating than the others, so I hope you live outside Canada, because The Ordinary granactive retinoids are no longer available for purchase from the Canadian Deciem site.

People have asked Dr Dray but I don't see her recommending it simply due to the three formulas all containing fragrance and she'd probably question the cost since her channel isn't really about pushing gadgets or expensive stuff. There are also nano mist spray bottles that can be used for toners/essences (none that claim to penetrate 20 layers but better than just spraying or swiping on your skin). The Ordinary Niacinamide has completely changed my skin. I’m 32 and I was still getting acne and those little bumps almost like pimples but not all over my forehead which would become so itchy and dry and in the sun you could see them covering my forehead.My skin was red and inflamed and along my chin I would have a lot of sebum coming out of my pores along with the sore pimples both that would come to a head and blind pimples which would be on my chin,under the chin/neck and cheeks mainly.I wouldn’t have a lot of blackheads but a few. All those issues have gone. I still get a spot here or their once a month. But everything else is gone lol My skin is also glowing my makeup goes on better.It started to improve my skin in a week. I know it’s that’s because everything else including diet stayed the same. I have been using it now for a little under a year and for $9 Australian I can’t believe how good it is. I use and love both the niacinamide 10% with zinc, and the retinol with squalane (squalene). The niacinamide serum did WONDERS for my hormonal acne and really helped lessen oil production on my normally very oily skin. It also moisturizes enough that between this and my sunblock in the morning, I don't need anything else. And at night I tap over the niacinamide with The Ordinary rose oil. I find that tapping over is best because rubbing can cause some pilling. And the retinol is amazing as I feel like my skin is fresh and glows the next morning. To be stored in the fridge is feels refreshing to apply. And of course the cost is unbeatable. You couldn't find a good single product for the cost of all 3 of their products I use. Although I prefer cleaner (greener) ingredients, my skin has never been happier!

So happy to realize I use these products you recommend in my routine. I just found out I have high levels of 5-alpha-reductase in my blood and it shows on my skin. I started treating these areas every night with Differin (a retinoid) (or The Ordinary's Retinol 2% in Squalane) or The Ordinary's Mandelic Acid alternating. Then, I put on The Ordinary's Alpha Arbutin + Vit. C serum and the Azelaic Acid Suspension. Additionally, I derma roll every 2 weeks and use the Salicylic Acid 2% Masque once a week. I also put zink oxide cream on breakouts and use SPF during the day and heavily moisturize with hyaluronic body lotion day and night. And holy moly has the appearance of my skin improved when it comes to overall underlying redness and pigmentation since using the Azelaic Acid! However, I will switch back to using The Ordinary's Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate in Vit. F and the Alpha Arbutin separately, because the smell of the combined product is not so nice (even my husband commented on it as I use it on my arms) and the Vit. C colours skin and stains textiles a bit orangey (so I suppose, it's already oxidized or at least not stable).

So glad I apparently picked well. :) I recently got into skincare and actually looking for what my skin in particular might benefit from. For starters I built a routine solely from the ordinary products (I use the squalane cleanser, grenactive retinoid 2% in squalane, the salicylic acid masque and the niacinamide - and sunscreen of course - for a while now and tried some other serums as well that didn't stick around though) and my skin has never looked this good! I'm 29 years old and there was a time where I thought I'd just have to live with blemishes, acne and large looking pores 'cause nothing seemed to work for me. It was only thanks to channels like yours I realized I've been drying out my skin waaaay too much and then at times fruatratedly neglected it completely. I really want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for educating people on skincare and what to look for in their routines.
