Just a quick edit - people have pointed out that Jupiter is in fact better because the law bonus actually decreases corruption as well, making it the better pantheon to go for, despite not being able to see that stat

I remember reconsidering my choices about Julii path after seeing in one game that they've went for Corinth for some reason. Who needs Gauls anyway? The rest of the territory was taken by Brutii so it didn't mattered in the end.

I will not tolerate this wall slander. Patavium + mediolanium can be held indefinitely with like 6 units each with a stone wall.

I had a campaign where I fought and killed all their stacks and claimed Rome with a general named Maxientus Victor, who after defeating all those armies claimed Emperorship it was epic. He even looked like Russel Crow a little bit from Gladiator. It was the best campaign I ever had. As long as you develop Medio, Patavium, Arrettium, Arriminum and Segesta. You can use those to pump out your legionary armies. It's crazy, but you can fight those armies out in the field and win, because we can use better strategy than the AI. You need a solid general though. The army comp I recall was all legionary first cohort with four legion cav and the general with upgrades of course. I also used forts to help contain their movements. I can't re-call if I actually lost any battles or not. I also took on the Romans late game with the Parthians, the second-best campaign I had where I conquered over half the map. All horse archers/cavalry. Peppered them down and charged them with cataphracts. For both of these styles to work though, your training units and logistics game needs to be on point, because you will take losses, you just need to be able to replace them. It actually replicates real war, rather well.

Im a 32 year old dad. Last time i played i was 29 and childless. Doing a Julii campaign on H/H to shake off the rust but this time i decided to conquer Gaul, Spain and Briton for a more roleplay feel. I then nabbed a few greek cities before the Bruuti took the rest before smashing through Asia Minor and Egypt. Now both the Bruuti and Sciipi are massive empires making the civil war ao brutal. I get maybe half an hour to play at night and Im having such a fun challenege against stacked Roman armies full of elite infantry and cavalry.

I highly recommend getting the remastered version of the game. I pulled the trigger and currently doing the Carthage campaign. Such a trip down nostalgia lane.

Love this game...been playing it since it came out. Every 6-12 months I play a campaign.... Currently I'm playing as Julii, the year is 192 BC....Brits are exterminated just recently, I'm at war w/ Gaul(one city remained) in spain, Im at war w/ Spain, I'm at war with Germania, and at war w/ Macedonia.... I have to keep moving armies from Spain to Germania to protect my borders. LOVE IT. Ps I did edit the game files to make all Roman families start the campaign iwatch against each other & stay like that for ever… That way I didn’t have to wait for the senate to betray me….I exterminated the other faction n the senate inside of 10 turns.

Doesn't one of the Julii starting characters have an ability to lower cost? It might have been more useful to have him queue up a few buildings on the cheap.

You can if you want to, but it’s really just saving you a couple hundred denarii. When you load in, you can que up a building or 2 from where they spawn in, but they are much more valuable in the field conquering cities starting from turn 1

@@jonnyo1999 - I'm not denying that they are more useful in the field. It just seems like it would have made more sense to queue up a few buildings before moving them. After all, a few hundred denarii is quite useful in the early game in my experience. Of course by the midgame that seems like a rounding error.
