Hey you ever think about the size of engine and how much that truck weighs, put a gas engine the same size and it not going to do much better
@303nitzubishi43 жыл бұрын
Lots of trashtalk in the comments here; y'all need to consider a couple things. The E/Ts of the other vehicles are similar so he's obviously racing in-class here. The bigger consideration is the TORQUE and what is likely an Allison 6 speed slushbox putting it down. More gears would make a huge difference in keeping the RPMs on-peak. You must also understand that this rig would likely only lose a couple tenths if it was actually towing another vehicle. That's how TORQUE (not horsepower) works
@robkenna27954 жыл бұрын
For its weight and how small the engine is, that thing is a rocketship. Sure it wont beat any modern cars heads up. But if he got the jump on you many cars would take awhile to reel him back in

Very cool truck, but the only thing "sleeper" about it is that anything it races will be asleep by the time it finally catches up.

everyone here: its not a sleeper compared to other 453T's it most certanly is damn it edit: it may only run 20's but it still sounds amazing, dose it not?

tyler bonser that thing running 18-20's is a big deal, especially considering both it's age and weight. And yes, that will easily beat most of the rices out shitbox civics on the road.

My brother has one in his boat but not turbo, according to the serial number it was built in the first year of production. When started, it barks into life with a sort of booowwrrr sound. Everyone one in the boat basin knows when he is going out. Apart from the turbo whistle, it sounds pretty much the same as this when running except that the boat has a big, straight through, wet exhaust. Like all Jimmys, it leaks oil! Like many Detroits , if you run it at low revs for a while it builds up oil in the airboxes around the inlet ports, when it is kicked hard, the supercharger blows some of the accumulated oil into the combustion chambers, so lots of noise and smoke. The Detroit and Jimmy diesels were identical, apart from the name and the colour of the paint.

If anyone thinks that's slow,for a 212" 4 cylinder, engine in a vehicle weighing 8000 lbs that is pretty good.

what is the red line RPM for a engine like this??
@chrisbrandon11118 жыл бұрын
like 3,600 RPM for newer diesels, but the older ones like that detroit diesel are just big ass dog's that can pull anything, go any where, and redline at like 3,500 RPM xD
@Stale_Mahoney8 жыл бұрын

Mike Berg no rpm is counted on the crankshaft not combustions per minute, but yes it does combust twice as often making it sound like it's hitting higher rpm's then it really does.
@joshshank34497 жыл бұрын
That engine only operates at about 2100 rpm 2500 for a Detroit 2 stroke can reach destruction point.

Nothing really sleeper about this. If it made it anywhere under the 15 or even 16 second mark, then I'd be impressed. I mean, I get that it's old as hell, and weights a few tons,, so that IS impressive, but sleeper is a bit of a stretch. With all due respect

Not a sleeper. The only sleeper here is the audience. That is an old POS. It's an old, weak slow, tow truck. The driver doesn't understand how the water box works. You don't heat your tires up by doing the burnout in the water. You slightly spin the tires in the water or just roll thru it, then pull out of the water and stop and spin the tires, heating them up. Zzzzz
