Hey Shane- have you figured out a way to view all HomeKit camera streams at once and show them in the Home App other than creating a new virtual room? I’d rather not remove the cameras from their actual rooms in the app. I know the HomeCam app does it for just $5 but switching between yet another app is just as fidgety. Is there a way to do it with Zones or Scenes within the Home app?

Great stuff Shane. I think a lot of us have a common challenge of balancing family needs for those who aren’t as tech enthusiast. Two QQs: Do you find the flic buttons reliable? My eve button is flaky, due presumably to Bluetooth. Second, do you have best practice for turning light strips 90 degrees? Thanks as always!
@ShaneCreates3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Nick! I’m very happy with the flic buttons. They have been reliable for me. I don’t really have a “best practice” for cornering the lightstrips. I just sort of “round” then at the corners. Or you can loop them at the corners. Alternatively, you can cut them and buy little 90 degree corner pieces to connect them, but that is much more work.

Hey Shane at 6:15 how do you turn on the lights separately from your fan if it’s just on the Lutron fan controller? Are they smart bulbs that are controlled separately? And when the fan is off from the Lutron controller does it keep the circuit closed to the light to still allow the bulbs to be turned on without the fan?

Yes there are other options. It may depend on what other ecosystems, if any, that you already have. Aqara and Phillips Hue both make them, but require a hub. Eve also make a button but it connects via bluetooth. Hoping to see that one updated with thread one of these days.

I did not make a dedicated video for the fan switch, but I did discuss it some in the Lutron section of this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jpS7hoSImLKshqc I already had a ceiling fan with separate switches, one to control the lights and one to control the fan. I really like your videos showing the different rooms. Great ideas all around. I just wish Lutron would make their wood blinds HomeKit compatible. All of the shades in my house are the 2" faux wood blinds and there are a couple of rooms that I would love to automate the blinds. I know I can automate the tilt on the wood blinds through HomeKit, but I would also like to raise and lower them as well. I know part of the issue is the weight of the blinds and I will probably have to run electrical to them, but in my case, that won't be an issue. Anyway, good stuff as always and I look forward to more content like this as well as videos on how to set up Automations and Shortcuts. Question: Do you know, or have you heard, if and when Eve will add thread to their other products like the Flare, Outdoor Water controller, Water Water Guard, and Eve Motion? I would like to purchase one or more of all of these but since they only have Bluetooth, that is holding me back from purchasing them. I already have the first generation Water Guard that I purchased before Thread was ever announced, but I have since added a Thread Contact Sensor and a Thread Outdoor Weather Station from Eve. These are working great and I would like to add more Eve products to my home.
@ShaneCreates3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Frederick! I think eventually Lutron’s wood blinds will support homekit… or at least I hope. As far as Eve’s products supporting thread… I think the answer is yes. I know they plan to fully support thread moving forward and I believe they have plans for all of their bluetooth accessories to eventually support thread as well. The Eve Aqua (outdoor water controller) already supports Thread. As for the other products you mentioned, I expect to see them all support thread eventually, or at least the ones that currently use bluetooth. Not sure if that can be done with firmware updates or will require new hardware, but either way, we should see a lot more thread stuff from Eve. I just don’t know what the expected timelines are.

Any HomeKit button will work. I like Aqara and Flic buttons. Phillips Hue also has some options. All those require a hub so it may depend if you’ve bought into any of those yet, or plan to. Hey Shane, I installed a light strip under my bed, around the edges of it. I have an EVE sensor that turns on the strip (during nighttime hours only) whenever I throw my legs over the edge. Easy-peasy to make my way to the bathroom, etc. It's linked to a ROUTINE that shuts it off after three minutes. (Also, I have a sensor inside the bathroom that turns on a night light in there when I enter (again, only during sleeping hours), so I can see the toilet. (heh) It also turns off after 3 minutes.) Just an idea for a KZbin post if you want to do it.
