You can put screw directly in plastic hole, 2.8-2.9mm is fine for m3 and works even with high loads

I already did one similar (and a video) for up to 4S with high/low settings. I don't run 6S yet but had planned on building a smoke stopper to handle 6S with two bulbs, or even with one bulb and a resistor. I have had the schematics drawn up sitting next to my bench for about a year now; just haven't had a need for a 6S capable smoke stopper. You beat me to the punch on the 6S capable video.

It's things like this I really enjoy. I've made a box just to organize and properly house "6 way, 1S" connection but with switches. So I can balance/storage charge 1s batteries. I'm able to do one 1s or 5 1s or any count of 1-6s via series connection

Nice build. Very useful. The only suggestion I have, would be a fuse directly after the XT60 input connector. If there is a fault or an internal short in one of the bulbs or sockets (I've seen it happen) then we all know what can happen when you short a lipo. Not a criticism, just a suggestion. Love your channel, I've learned so much everyday about the hobby that I'm quite new to.

So its a fun project and I get that everyone like to build something useful but at this point just buy a cheap current limiting bench powersupply. They can do the job of a smokestopper and SO much more. I consider it to be an essential tool on par with a soldering iron or multimeter. Something 30 volt 5 amp is fine for our hobby and amazon has some great options at around $60.

I think you should have added a fuse just behind the input xt60.. I can think of people making a bad joint on one of the switches, and a wire could come loose and short the something inside. Adding a small 10A fuse would prevent fire from a lipo being shorted

Like it - on the other hand: Take e.g. a DPS3005 or DPS3012 for $25 from Banggood, connect it to your charge PSU (we are under nerds here, so you got 24V+ 500W+) and you can even set voltage and a current limit.

in response to 1:04, if your gonna gp to that effort, then why not use a DC fast acting circuit breaker? They make solid state ones that are really good. Alternarively you can just power your quad with a laptop power supply, which can deliver 3A but will have short circuit protection (either foldback current limiting or hiccup mode). Or just pony up and get a lab bench power supply, with regular Constant Current mode limiting.

Really, really interesting! Thanks a lot, Joshua! 😃 Well, around here I could only find the 2 wires sockets. And I really don't have any interest in 6s, so... I'm thinking about making a simpler one, only selecting between a bulb for bigger quads or the other for smaller quads. 😊
@-Gruntled4 жыл бұрын
I did that based on someone else's design here: media.discordapp.net/attachments/477844309073199104/583512503091331084/Wiring_Diagram.jpg , but with xt30s. Now I need to design and print a box, although the printing will have to wait until my Prusa Mini arrives maybe in April... I find that without the box, the switch is pretty hard to flip one handed, which makes it less useful for reducing hands in the off to on scenario. I purchased a rocker switch to make it easier than the toggle as well.

I have a strange question for you. When I go to motors tab in betaflight with smoke stopper on I can't run the motors off the master control. Some turn some Don't. Individually there fine. I put props on and no smoke stopper and everything is fine. Probably this junk flight controller I had to get cause I had a dark max and needed a vtx on flight controller or put it on top. Zero room so I used rcharlance f4 to a mamba esc. So far so good worked just great till a prop came loose on about a 100' dive. No more dark max. Back to Arris 250 frame. headed out to fly pray for equipment I think I can hear it shaking right now LOL☠️☠️☠️
@kduemose4 жыл бұрын
The reason you not be able to run all the motors at one time is that they together use too many amp. I' made a nice one jb Style smoke stopper 12 volt electric bulb and when I turn motors it starts to light up the more amps I use 💪🤓 Thanks to jb

Don’t know if someone else commented this, but what about a bulkhead XT-60 for the top plate of a quad? Talk about strain relief for your bat pads on the FC. Does anyone else think it’s a good idea? Obviously wouldn’t work for every frame out there but some 5in and most larger quads could easily pull this off I feel like

why does your solder melt so fast on the xt 60 connector. it takes me like 8 seconds to melt and i am using 400C on that same hakko iron i think. it that tip really nice? should i get one?
@cantax83124 жыл бұрын
tip size makes a big difference. Question is: How often do you want to switch between tips? I could solder a XT60 withing seconds using a big tip, but 90% of my soldering needs a smaller tip, thats why I often just solder with a tip to small for the job.

Here's the gist of the BnF market in my opinion. Under $200 - Budget. Compare to Cidora SL5 SE. Around $300 - Standard. Compare to Cidora SL5. Around $400 - Premium / not boutique. Top quality parts but still from mass production. $500 and up - Premium / boutique. Top quality parts, hand built per order. Typically needs to be associated with a known brand or personality or people won't buy.

Are you going to release a DFX of the box or a part model. I love the circuit but not the Box PLA is really only any good for Prototypes as it becomes brittle. An ABS project box off the shelf is more suited as you going to melt it some point.
