James, that rig is a beast!!!! Looks like it was pretty maneuverable in the water though. The video looked great, mind you I'm watching it on a cell phone (with a 4k HD screen, but still), so i can't see it as well as i could on a bigger screen. Noticeably better than the GoPro footage. Congrats, hope it lives up to all your dreams and expectations.

Brilliant setup! Think I am turning green and I am not seasick… A world away from my “old” SEA & SEA DX-G1 and SONY A6000 in a SeaFrogs housing with some SEA & SEA YS-110 strobes. Everything bought used “bargain-basement” type deals (trying to be a bit “frugal”). Anyway, think I have found a part of UV flash photography that has an insane price markup on it, and it is the fiber optic cables to trigger flashes. Looked up some SEA & SEA modes and they were $40-80 or even more… But.. They are just glorified “TOSLINK” style audio/video cables, and one of those cables can be had on E-Bay for about $4-20 about 2m (6.6 feet) in length. The ends can just be fixated with tape or with a 3D-printed DIY socket.

I think you need more knobs and dials. 😅 but serious. Nice setup! I use a 2" screen from my camera. Beats the damn viewfinder I used to use. Haha. I wish people actually made cases for Pentax instead of just one offs. My setup: Fix case (200ft depth or so) for Canon S90 PnS camera with a wetlens and single upper end mid range light. Side note: brewing does the same with bulkheads and calls penetrators as bulkheads. Dunno why, probably easier for the layman.

We call em bulkhead or feed through connectors in aviation too. I like how you slapped a computer on the float arm. Great idea. So, for those of us that don’t have $10k to build the best camera kit how many lumens of light do you think I need for daytime shooting with action cameras?

Please don't thrash me about this, because I'm not an expert, but I work in the electronics industry and from my understanding, bulkhead connectors are called that because they are made with the intention of passing through the bulkhead or wall as James mentioned. Sometimes, circular connectors are given names by what they are used for or with. I think this type comes from the military originally. Also, there should be a connection at the wall, otherwise it would likely penetrate or feed through the bulkhead.

Nautical term= Bulkhead or Thru Hull Fitting , like the one used for water in/out on the hull of a boat ( only yours is for electrical/signal transmitting ). Probably the reason they use the word Bulkhead. Somewhere in the definition you'll probably see the term stop water from ... What is hte total cost of this rig minus the camera & lens?

Hi John, James mentioned the use of the blue filter for a shallow water reef dive. I know I've used magenta and red filters for deeper dives over 60ft(20m) on my GoPro and I think it has some internal color filtering for shallower water, but that's the camera rather than the lights.

With blue filter attached to video lights, you just WB your camera once, this way if you have mixed lighting conditions (natural and artificial), you avoid a red tint from your LED's. You 1st have to manually perform a WB for the loss of red, beyond 10ft. You now have your camera WB corrected for the lack of red so if you use video LED's they will have a red tint, the blue filters (over LED'S) compensate and make things easier. Hope this helps.

Red filters would be on the lens itself, never on the lights. If I recall, once you use lights you don't require a red filter at all (as your lights provide the full colour spectrum at depth). The explanation these guys gave for the Blue filter makes sense to me. For what it's worth, I'm not a videographer or photographer, just a guy with a gopro and a red backscatter flip 😂

This may be the worst KZbin channel I could have happened across. I was certified as a Jr Open water diver in Hawaii at the age of 13. I dove a handful of time between 13 and 15, never owning any gear. After a 35 year hiatus, I run across this channel, and am now awaiting a dry suit, and an Ocean Reef Space Extender mask. Ill be buying my BCD locally along with some other odds and ends. Ive also got my 21 year old son signed up to get certified and plan to work both of us up to rescue diver, as Im a career firefighter that's on the water rescue team (no scuba). Love the channel James.
