Wow. So sweet. I never hear about what these guys are going to make, always find out they made my dream collectible way after it's been permanently discontinued. Of course the Farnsworth is such an easy prop to make, even strictly by hand, but for the price, I would have invested in two of these in a flash! Thanks for selling... Err I mean sharing!

You really think that's easy to make? I thought this one shown looked perfect-and NOT easy to make. I'm taking it upon myself to say not easy at all as an "average" person.

louise4053 Thanks, Louise, I really appreciate the praise! It must be said, however, that for someone just getting into prop replicating, this is an excellent prop to start with. This is my second Farnsworth, but my first one was pretty much my first attempt at replicating a prop. It wasn't as good as this one, but it wasn't bad. A fully static version is really easy if you can find all the parts... my first one had electronics, and it was my first time working with that stuff. It was a great learning experience, and now I'm moving on to other projects and learning more and more. It's all just stepping stones. Pretty soon, I'm going to have a video showing how I built this, and I hope to move on to a Claudia Farnsworth soon... I'll be the first to pull that off, and I'm pretty excited. So stay tuned!

I am totally, completely blown-away with all the skill and know how it must have taken to build this replica. I can only imagine the amount of time you spent on making it. The TV was fun and enjoyable - really neat props and so forth. You should seriously consider working in a props department. Great job. P.S. It definitely would like just as the one on the show. Thanks for the video - interesting.

How are able to get it to close? I’d love to find the source for your knobs. Mine seems too talk.
@PropsmithReplicas
@PropsmithReplicas 3 жыл бұрын
@@captdan7876 Which knobs are you having an issue with, specifically? The middle knob has a flanged skirt on it that you have to sand down to get the right look for the button and that probably also needs to be down to fit in there. The others should fit by default. When I get a minute I can try to find my original parts list, but this build was so long ago that the links I have may no longer work (that recently happened when trying to find the glass screen for another project).

So would I! But, alas, until you build one, you don't realize how little space there really is in there. As it is, I'm the first person that's managed to even have the lights and sound while also having the vintage decorative electronics. Prior to this Farnsworth, it had to be one or the other.

A metal Faceplate is essentially impossible to find. There have only ever been a couple hundred or so made and, as far as I know, no one has plans to make any more. You can find some very nice plastic ones on Etsy for like $25, though, and they paint up pretty well with the right brass paint.

So did you somehow reprogram the 123electronics module? I cant figure out how you got the red light to stay on, and how you got the one button to make the ringing, answering, and hang up sounds with separate pushes when you've already filled up the 4 button presses with the different delayed rings.
@PropsmithReplicas
@PropsmithReplicas 9 жыл бұрын
+Talyn It's all in the software that you use to program the module. Dig into the settings, and you'll see that you can program the blink frequency (including a solid on), and you can program a sequence of sounds to trigger with consecutive button presses.

Okay, I'm hearing you say "your build". This available in a kit or did I totally miss the boat and you are a craftsman at QMX. Sorry, I don't read anything until I start losing sleep over it... Thanks
@PropsmithReplicas
@PropsmithReplicas 11 жыл бұрын
This is not a QMx. This is a custom build by me using all the proper parts (The Wheatley fly box, all the correct knobs, etc) and a custom fabricated brass faceplate. Any mention of the QMx is just for comparison's sake. It's never been available in a kit either; all the parts have to be tracked down and purchased individually. This task is becoming harder and harder especially now that the Wheatly company has shuttered. Oh, and only a couple hundred brass faceplates have ever been made outside of QMx. I've been fortunate enough to have a few (still need to get around to building that last one, which is the one I'll be keeping for myself).

@PropsmithReplicas
@PropsmithReplicas 7 жыл бұрын
Sorry, but it's my baby. And I haven't the materials to make any more. The faceplate is a piece that has to be custom machined and it had to be done in bulk to make it remotely affordable.

Well, when these were in vogue, you could buy all the proper parts for, I believe the number was $238, give or take... then all the assembly time. Your best best is probably to source a QMx from eBay.

To go into more detail, It's a TV show basically about a secret government warehouse, a bit like the one you see at the the end of Raiders of the lost Ark, where all the things that are too dangerous or unexplainable for any one person to own, are kept. Somethings stored there are crazy advanced inventions from years gone by, that they didn't know what to do with? and some things are just plain unexplained? Two unwitting agents are sent to work there and protect the secrets. Sometime they are sent to investigate things that need to be brought back to the warehouse. They sometimes are allowed to use some if the weird inventions or items from the facility, to help them do their job. It's a fun show.
