Good video. Being a new coach for 12-13 year olds this is very help at getting a routine developed. My biggest challenge is myself and at 63 doing ALL the proper warm ups for my development as well.

Thank you coach!!! progression from the wrist is something I've never tried before and it really helped me out today. First time throwing in 6 months with no elbow pain at all. Just grateful .

Great video like always... For those coaching anything under 12u, I recommend actually placing cones at every step of the progression and the last couple of steps should be at game speed.

Thanks so much for this! This was really informative. I came across it at the perfect time since I have my first practice as a first time coach for 10u softball. I just subscribed so am looking forward to learning more to make sure my team does well. I played for years, but it's been way too long. Thanks again!

This is very helpful. My 11 yr old little leaguer never gets this instruction from his coaches. We go through progression 20 min before practice so his arm is not jelly. Good stuff.

Awesome. I would like to see you point the ball towards 2nd base to make sure the wrist is up.

Great video I have a question about the lunges where you twist to one side. My coach told me to only twist to the open side, so like the opposite you did. Do you have any resources on it or something?

Hi there, enjoyed your video. I do have one problem that seems to be creeping into a lot of juniors these days. Its the drill where you are saying"we are just warming up the wrist". I think this drill is great in concept for a good wrist action. But the kids are thinking thats where their elbow should be when throwing a baseball. This is not the case as you dont have your elbow(right out in front and holding elbow with other hand) in that position when throwing. Most coaches are teaching this and it is leading to a bad technique as they get older(lots of sore elbows).

You're being too kind. Wrist flicks are worthless at best and severely detrimental at their worst. What does "warming up the wrist" even mean?
@shackofwhack2 жыл бұрын
@@JD-nk5xs it means nothing, wrist flips have been left in the past by everyone except for youth baseball. Looking at the wrist in slow motion throwing, we see that the wrist does not 'snap.' This is seen in softball and baseball.
@JD-nk5xs2 жыл бұрын
@@shackofwhack I see it so often when watching other teams warm up. Drives me crazy. I guess they're getting some good practice in for those run-down dart throws you do once every 8 games.

Justin, I am writing a book on coaching youth baseball, and I would like to include a link to this throwing progression in the book. May I please do that, along with a recommendation that readers subscribe to this channel?

Can you please do a video on how to throw correctly without hurting your brachialis? I started playing catch with my friend but after like 1 hour of throwing my brachialis or around the area really really hurts and I can't play for atleast 4-5 days and it hurts very much.

What's a good long toss distance for 10 year old?
@allthings11506 жыл бұрын
riceman10 I don’t know if a distance is too far; whatever the distance, the ball should be thrown as low as possible to get it there.

On my team we always throw the ball as a warmup about 40 to 50 ft apart. I told my coach that we shouldn't throw to warmup but warm up to throw. He said if I told him again he'd bench me. So I always warmup before I get to the field.
@manboy55497 жыл бұрын
Peterson Homework never tell the coach what to do. Just make a suggestion about what you can do before a practice or a game and if he doesn't like it. Oh well

Just watched some of video. I like this guy but I wouldn't recommend the dart wrist drill think. For one, no one throws starting with a so called letter L motion first or snapping the wrist down like that. Later in video he did explain the correct over all motion. I feel the hand holding elbow or holding wrist is such a out dated and worthless motion. If you want it better explained why look at Dan Blewett
