I disagree with the first one. If I’m going to swing at the first pitch, I need to have seen the pitcher at least once already. Why? If I swing at the first pitch against a pitcher, I don’t know how the ball moves as it crosses the strike zone, its velocity, and his pitch sequence. If I know the pitcher well enough and watch him in the on-deck circle, I know that he’ll likely follow up pitch A with pitch B. However, I don’t know if he’ll start me off with pitch A, or pitch B, or C. Maybe he has a pitch I haven’t seen yet. If I go up to the first at bat of the game with the mentality that I am going to swing at the first pitch, I am not going to get a hit. Taking a pitch isn’t “throwing an at- bat away.” In fact, it gives you a better idea of what’s coming next. And if you get yourself in a two-strike hole, foul stuff off until the pitcher gives you one you want. Any good hitter should be able to hit with two strikes. And besides, the more info you know about the pitcher, the more your teammates will know about him to take with them to their at-bats. They might get more hits because they know to swing at pitch B when it’s high and lay off C when it’s low. Although that’s not to say that I disagree with most of what you said. Just the first one.

Ryan Saros I disagree that is why you watch him on m the on deck circle, and you never know if he is going to throw you a curve change and fastball
@thesaroscycle_archive5 жыл бұрын
Brooks Soape, the thing is, the on deck circle is not nearly the same as being in the batters’ box against the pitcher. There are all sorts of nuances, like how the ball loses velocity as it crosses the plate, the point at which a curveball starts to break, etc. You can see these from the on deck circle (obviously), but when you step up in your first at bat against Pitcher X you don’t know what he likes to throw in this count or another count, where a curveball has to start at to be a strike, etc. What you *do* know is how Pitcher X *sequences* pitches; as in, he follows up Pitch A with Pitch B in most counts. So if he throws you Pitch A to start you off, you know with pretty good certainty that he’ll throw you Pitch B next.

But if it’s your second (or better yet, third) at bat against this pitcher, if you know what the pitcher likes to start you off with, there’s no harm in swinging at the first pitch.

You’re trying to make the game way more complicated than it is. Swing at strikes, take balls, hit bombs. Simple as that
@thesaroscycle_archive5 жыл бұрын
HBK360MUSIC if that’s your mentality, then fine, if that’s what works for you, but in the majority of cases the more you know the better, if you’re facing the best of the best especially. Why do you think major league hitters only get hits less than 30% of the time? Obviously no one commenting here is in the major leagues (correct me if I’m wrong), but only the best hitters can make it that simple. And besides, it’s not about complexity; it’s about reducing uncertainty.

I am always worry about the bunting. If im going to swing at first then foul and again at once i decide to have bunting then foul but no runners in bases. Is it a foul out or foul balls strikes 2?
@HBK360MUSIC5 жыл бұрын
If your coach gives you the bunt sign, purposefully miss, then hit a bomb the next pitch
