Edinburgh is also expensive because the military tattoo is only during that time as well. Best time to visit to fit in ALL Scotland has to offer with the nicest weather. Still super chilly at night. We got married there almost a decade ago, did the whiskey experience dinner the night before with the military tattoo to end the evening, stayed in Dalhousie Castle, got married at Culross Abbey, had tea at Edinburgh Castle, saw a few shows at fringe fest, and took a 3-4 day bus tour of the highlands. We packed a lot into less than a week but it was worth it.

Thanks, this is a great video! The fringe festival is the largest arts festival in the world! The Edinburgh Zoo, while having the only pandas in the UK, is also home to the penguin parade where the penguins are let loose in the zoo and parade through it led by the only knighted penguin in the world, Sir Nils Olav! There are so many different museums in Edinburgh as well from the two Scottish National Galleries of Modern Art, the National Portrait Gallery, The Scottish National Gallery, the two National Museums of Scotland, The Museum of Childhood, and the Museum of Edinburgh, plus many more, as well as the two National Records of Scotland and the National Library of Scotland which is one the largest libraries in the UK! Also, the observatory on Calton Hill is technically not in use anymore as it has been subsumed by the city (it still works though), but there is another observatory on Blackford Hill called the Royal Observatory Edinburgh (which is also very interesting to visit) and is the home to the UK Astronomy Technology Centre!

Edinburgh is the second most expensive city to live in bar London. It’s still worth it though.
@TheMiniMaestroMan Жыл бұрын
@@eccremocarpusscaber5159 London is decent for a visit but never a place to live. Saying this as a born and bred Dundonian, Edinburgh isn'ae Scottish - neither culturally, socially or economically. Much more middle-class and cosmopolitan than the more traditional, smaller working-class cities and towns like mine. It's more closer to being English imo. Too much shortbread tin pandering for tourists and becomes an de-facto exclave borough of London when the Fringe is on. But still a lovely place with very high standards of living. I'm planning on going to Queen Margaret uni in Musselburgh, just outside Edinburgh. Less snobby and more affordable. Good for students from deprived backgrounds + gives you a chance to live in the capital without being aristocraticly rich.

Nice. But a couple things: "Turn right down Grassmarket" should be "...down Victoria Street" (the sign adjacent to 'Grassmarket was the one to read). The Grassmarket is the "public square" referred to immediately after. "If you carry on walking down Princes Street you won't find any shortage of bars, pubs and restaurants"? That footage is George Street, a block further into the New Town, which is where drink and food can be found. As for dismissing Leith as "There's really not that much to it," you've got that wrong. Leith, once a town separate from Edinburgh, might lack the grace of the New Town and the tourist attractions of the Old Town, but it is one of the city's most characterful areas, with plenty of bars, pubs, places to eat and funky streets to discover. It is always good to get someone who knows the city to review the final edit before publishing. Of course there is so much more to the city centre than what you show. Still, it is always nice to see footage of this fabulous city.

Sorry for my long story and thanks in advance!

Hello my brother. Thanks for stopping by, and thank you for watching my videos! If Edinburgh is too expensive, I recommend that you visit the historic city of Bath (see my video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mGnMfImhnNejrrc). It’s not too far from Cardiff, about a 1 hour train ride). And you can easily spend two days there. Liverpool is also a short train ride away from Manchester, so that’s worth a day too. You won’t need much time in Cardiff, Bath or Manchester - so I’d add a couple of extra days in London if you can. Hope that helps?

If you're needing a room in Edinburgh book it online, its usually about half the cost of what you'll get at the desk. Also its not thw Edinburgh fringe festival, its the Edinburgh Festival, and then the fringe.

That's because Hampden Park is in Glasgow, not Edinburgh.

Thanks for another great video. Edinburgh look fantastic the only disappointment is that accommodation is expensive, another city to visit once I get to the UK one day.
@UltimateBucketList2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jason! The hotels in the city centre are stupidly priced, so whenever I go there, I stay in one of the other districts where the price of hotels is reasonable (and with free car parking) ... and then get a £2 bus into town. That's the only way I can make Edinburgh affordable most of the time. But a lot of tourists don't know that, so they get seriously ripped off when they come here. I suppose it's like that with every major capital city these days!

Try a hostel! Even if you're not willing to stay in a shared dorm, most have a few private rooms that are still cheaper than the average hotel

You got the street name wrong at 5:28.... it is Victoria Street, but it is leading you to Grassmarket.... in this street you find the best pulled pork in the universe at Oink Oink (pink building).... and the best pubs are in Grassmarket. My spot is The Last Drop. Awesome pub. Try it.

I don't ever recall seeing one in Edinburgh (Google says it's in Aberdeen, which is miles away). If you're into seafood, Maxie's near Edinburgh castle comes highly recommended.

@@delanosilveira17 Oh sorry, that was some stock footage from a news site that I took to illustrate my point. In reality, any fish and chip shop in Edinburgh will be more than happy to deep fry you a Mars bar (or any chocolate bar) on request!

Any suggestions for a budget friendly hotel that is close and easy to get into Edinburgh from?
@UltimateBucketList Жыл бұрын
Without looking at hostels (which I don't recommend), you'll probably be looking at budget hotel chains such as Travelodge and Premier Inn. There's also a budget Hilton hotel to the west of the city that's easy to get to/from. Hope that helps?
