The commentator doubts the travel at 1:00:24 but his pivot foot is like 2 feet into the endzone. It had to be established outside the endzone before the throw. Why question the call if they lack understanding of the rules?

i mean thats as bit harsh dont you think? when you look at the replay theres no obvious travel move, because the traveling happens during the pivots and its very subtle. I cant imagine this getting called in any other place on the field, it's only noticable because of the endzone line. Is it still a travel? yeah, and it was well called by the defense, but questioning the commentators understanding of the rules based on one replay viewing is a little much

I have a high bar for a commentator to judge foul calls because doing so risks showing bias and igniting toxicity between the players and fans. If they don't have justified high confidence, they should communicate what happened but leave the judgement to the players on the field.

For the record, the throw at 1:35:18 by the Japanese was NOT a catch. If you watch at 0.25 playback speed, you can see that the disc hits the ground just before getting to the Japanese player's left hand, and then bounces off the ground...then hits the player's right hand stopping the bounce and "trapping" it so that it appeared to be a catch.

I agree and they are allowed to do that. Do you say that it should be a turn?

I played ultimate for over 3 decades and never understood why anyone would wear gloves on a nice day with no rain or cold. The entire Japanese teams wears gloves and they still seem to not keep a good grip on the disc which led to many of their turnovers. I would think they would look at this issue if they ever wish to beat the USA.

I find gloves to give a more consistent grip in all conditions. Especially in dryer climates my hands get dry and I have a hard time finding a consistent feel on the disc, gloves fixed that issue for me. I think it's very dependent on the individual. All this to say I wouldn't rush and blame the gloves, they made it this far with them after all.
