The best thing you can do for yourself in Linux. Pick a distro, pick some write-up somehow do something, try them, even if you fail, figure out what you went wrong, and try again. It takes a little time. You've been trained on Windows for years. It takes a little time to learn Linux.

Linux Mint, with the cinnamon desktop, is very user friendly for those accustomed to Windows. I use Mint 21.1 on a seperate SSD as an alternative to Windows 10. Steam and a crapton of GOG games have Linux native games that run fantastic on Mint, and AMD's open-source graphics drivers are baked into Linux OSes.

Love the Bazzite content iv been seeing across the tube. Recently discovered it myself and threw it on my ROG Ally. 100% better. Performance and ease of use. Best Steam OS out there. IMO the only linux distro you should use if your gaming as its pre setup with literally everything you need. Mint is meh. No vrr support. Not sire why he said took a while for Bazzite. Literally loads up and does its thing. For me its a lot less stuttery with less overhead from windows.

The major issue is one I am dealing with right now and that is going from an IT pro on Windows and using a different OS that changes the way you think what means what. For example the drivers are almost all in place in the Linux Kernel, so you don't have to install drivers. You may have to install the software that uses the drivers because the system often will not come with them for controllers because they don't want to 'bloat the OS'. That being said an advantage with the emulation of Windows Programs is it can be configured to use older programs that may be games from XP or Windows 7 era. Linux doesn't emulate just the latest version of Windows but past ones as well. I would suggest that you guys use Linux Mint and slowly brush up on the way the OS works as needed and try following a few KZbinrs that do the content and explain Linux and the Linux Mindset. For starters I would suggest The Linux Experiment. He does explainers from scratch and does Linux News and had been a big help to me after returning to Linux after 10 year hiatus mostly due to my health.

As a user of Linux (especially Mint) for the last decade and a half, THANK YOU for this video. Every Windows fan I have come across on YT seems to forget at one point even they were going in blind on Windows for the first time and just gives a Linux OS 15 minutes of their time and then trashes the whole thing. If you are a computer nerd of any kind then you must know the PC world does go beyond Windows. And now I must go try Bazzite because, WOW!

Yeah, the terminal was never meant to be phazed out, its a core part of linux. And "diving into bash" isn't exactly that hard, the only commands the average person will need to know are your package manager (like apt) to install stuff, cd, and ./ to execute some types of files

@kongsunlyheng41864 сағат бұрын
@@oswaldjh there is. but the problem with linux is that there is no one way to anything. there might even be multiple GUI for one thing. And most of the time, the most simple and best one are made by a developer for his personal use that is on github and doesn't bother to market it like a company (because he doesn't care which is respectable). at one point, you say "screw gui" and typing words in terminal is way easier. But yeah, Linux should aim to be easier for the normal stuffs like setting up. the thing is that there are distros which managed to do that like ubuntu but not all distros and so it is not as simple as referring to all distros as one thing. and for knowing about apt or stuffs like that, it's not that different from when you just search how to install an app from a website on windows. or you don't know about window store until you search about it or heard about it. It's the same thing, just that most people learn about windows before linux. beside, Linux, Windows are all tools. Linux is not windows replacement but they are windows alternative. same can be said the other way around. If you are satisfied with windows then keep working with windows. It's dumb to come to Linux and want it to work like windows when windows exist. people that make their Linux looks like windows are those that already understand the basic of using Linux and just doing it for fun.
