Great video! Over the years I’ve tried a bunch of super compact super lightweight sleeping arrangements, and almost every time I would wake up freezing at around 2 in the morning. It kinda sucked. Now I carry something warm enough. I really like the compact bundle that you created there!

That is very neat. I like the cheap, scrounge around, make do with what you have, kind of outfits like that. Something that some kid with no money could take and run with. That kind of knowledge isn't around young, American, boys anymore. Kids need to catch that spirit of adventure. Thanks Blackie.

Me, too! But I resorted to using a 5.5' x 7.5' cheap Harbor Freight blue tarp because I couldn't locate a military poncho locally.

Took a road trip one time with a bed role stuffed with a change of clothes . Riding a 1962 Harley XLCH . My bedroll was tied-up not quite as good as Blackies . Every time I stopped , had to retie the bedroll . It was the run through hell . Went through a tornado . Gas stations were closed from want of gasoline , and I'm running a Sportster tank . Guy I was with traded a import 45acp for two tanks of gas so we could keep moving . When I finally made it back home the first thing I did was to purchase a canvas boyscout day pack . ( They were called Milwaukee Vibrators for a well earned reason ) I sleep under a poncho liner , a fleece blanket, and a queen size Walmart cotton blanket thats doubled . Out of the wind but my house is as cold as the outdoors . Good stuff Blackie , brought back a flood of memories . 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

Wow I think I would need a nap after all that convoluted mess…oh but I would have to untie all that to do it…twenty plus years of using a poncho and some blanket wool or liner I never did all that. Love your videos …have fun stay safe.

Blackie, do you use this type of bedroll? Or do you change sleeping gear depending on time of year? Trouble for me with our humidity and heat in the Australian summer, any sort of cover makes you sweat at night.

The really lightweight stuff was for very specific purposes. Mountain climbers learned to sew to invent some of this, so they could climb things they wouldn't ordinarily be able to. It was never meant for rough, wooded terrain or survival.

Looks really handy. Seems like it will take time to tie up and untie for camp, but still handy if you want lightweight and movement. If I was 40 years younger and not plagued by bad knees/hips/back, I'd be making serious use of it. (P.S. the Tuff Possum Gear Multi Purpose Survival Scarf makes a great leaf tick)

I agree that saying "the more you know, the less you carry" is extremely outdated and not really applicable. I know how to make backpacks, so does that mean I don't need it? I know how to make a tarp too, so I shouldn't carry it? 🤦 Another one is people saying you pack your fears 🤦, it has nothing to do with fear 🤣. Some people aren't as smart as others 🤣🤣🤣.
