I have exactly the same idea for my future house. I may change a little bit: 1st floor includes living room, kitchen together with open concept, 1 bedroom and laundry. 2nd floor will have 2 small bedrooms which share 1 bathrom for the kids and another ensuite master bedroom. I like how they designed the landscape. I would do the same instead of building a deck. The last but not the least I need a basement for my business. 1 day it would come true :) finger crossed

There are huge cables attached to what looks like metal beam overhang ( must be on both sides) and I imagine all three containers are bolted together, that’s a lot of weight with their offset weight distribution. I am surprised he didn’t explain the design, in that aspect.

I always scratch my head on these container builds where they jam three together... They're only 8 and 1/2 ft wide and if you're going to cut out the whole middle and the sides of the other two... Why not just put one on the right one on the left with a 20 ft Gap in between and then finish that? Use four containers two on the top two on the bottom and bridge the gap.
@MikeWillTravel3 жыл бұрын
Good thinking!
@canecreekhomestead2 жыл бұрын
Probably because the flooring would NEVER match for 1, elevation changes, not to mention all the other items. But it would certainly make sense to extend the center much larger then an avg 8' container in the middle.
@lesgreen74543 жыл бұрын
Nice and beautiful structure. Will the container exterior not be prone to rust and weaken especially in coastal areas? What is the longevity of this compared to brick buildings?
@MikeWillTravel3 жыл бұрын
Hey, Les! I'm not too sure honestly as it's not my container home. I would try messaging the hosts on Airbnb with the same question. I linked out to the Airbnb listing in the video description!
@greekcajuntexan3 жыл бұрын
This particular container home is in Utah, which is very dry. Additionally, these shipping containers are designed to spend most of their time crossing oceans so they do have quite good marine coatings applied when they are made. Of course, depending on how much use (if any) they received as actual shipping containers, normal wear, tear, dings, and handling will likely degrade the coating. But they can be easily touched up or completely re-coated.

How are people able to build these homes with no financing? Regardless how cheap containers are, interior features are not. Since this kind of home is so new, there's not going to be any comparable homes for mortgage companies to determine value for the loan.

That is the WEIRDEST place. I mean, the house itself is awesome. But......It's just stuck in a field with no shade, and they pushed the small cooling, growing things that were there even FURTHER from the house with all that rock and concrete. Heck, I'd have started with a camp trailer first and developed a garden and stuff needed for a real home before making the box a fancy box. A home is mostly not the indoor part.

Shipping containers are very costly to make a home out of after all the re-enforcement and engineering you have to do to pass codes and inspections and all the extras for insulation and furring out the walls ceilings and floors. Do not build a house this way unless money is not a issue.
