Football is a sport that goes far beyond the fields. Around the world, many clubs have a political history, and that rubs off on the fans. I'm from Brazil, and I support a team called Corinthians. It is the team with one of the biggest supporters in Brazil, and is known for having a history of fighting the dictatorship that took place in Brazil between the 60s and 80s. Last year, supporters of the extreme right-wing former president did not accept defeat in the elections, and they took to the streets, blocked avenues and roads, did not let people enter or leave the cities. The police tried to remove them peacefully and failed, until the Corinthians ultras joined and removed them by force, freeing all avenues and roads in the country.

When suburbs of Split were on fire it was Tocida That self organized to help the firefighters fight it of. After earthquakes hit the capital it was Bad blue boys helping in transfer of Infants to other hospitals from the damaged ones. and when another earthquake hit Banija it was ... well all of Croatian ultras organizing donation gathering and going there to help people

The security guys are called stewards and they do just what you mentioned. But be assured, special police forces (much like your SWAT teams) are close by. Fans are guided by the police to and from the stadium and during the game, stewards monitor them for obvious reasons. They removed the police from the stadiums to avoid fans provoking them or even going at them. They even removed the high fences in order to get the focus back on the game instead of the violence surrounding it. Stewards intentionally don't have real authority as the ultras react on that when in their "eomotional state". It's a balance between safety and freedom. And every ultra want to be free at least when supporting their club or nation. I've been in that surrounding for only a short time, but it's a very immersive surrounding to be in. I litterally got shivers and goose bumps when singing the chants. Being in a group that is so focussed on a common goal temporarily erases your identity to become part of a bigger identity I have the impression. They call these people the twelfth player of the team and that is that bigger identity.

Nice. Putting down people who may want to learn more about the game you CLAIM to love, because their knowledge is "beginner" level, is not what a TRUE supporter should do. We all have to start somewhere. I've been following football/soccer/futbol/jogo bonito, for about 30 years, and, yes, I'm an American. Back in the day, the sport was only shown on tv during World Cup, so I determinedly read "Four Four Two" and "World Soccer" religiously. I learned and saw what I could. If you really love football/soccer, whatever you call it, why would you have discouraged me from getting into it?! PS: BTW, diehard Argentina fan since day 1 - yeah, even if they're playing the US. This clip unfortunately mixes up two types of fans. The Ultras do everything to support their team/club. They travel everywhere amd organize these great tifos, f. e. The Hooligans (in MY very personal opinion!) use these teams/clubs as a platform to have a reason to fight. Basically they don't care most about the team, but more about what they call "honour". But honestly, these groups cannot be kept and seen totally separately, because people are part of both...

It is good that they don't clash on the streets after the match like in the 90s, so 99% of the cases everybody returns home in one piece. Good or bad, but no one could stop it, not communist dictators, not the nazis, both rather tried to use it, forge a tool of it etc. People were scared to speak their mind in their own living room, but this could not be stopped or at least no one dared to try. Riots are not taking place after every match. Mainly after derbies or bigger rivalries, but nowadays police is very good structured and in place in huge numbers. The matches you saw were mainly football, but you also saw some basketball. E.g. in Greece, Turkiye, Serbia fans also follow there clubs in other sports like basketblall, volleyball or water ball. Of course in smaller numbers, also because stadiums for these sports are much smaller than for football.

I am from São Paulo city, whenever the big football teams play there, the place becomes a war zone, shock troops on the street, special traffic operations to make sure each ultras get to the stadium without meeting each other. Stadiums are build with deep trenches separating the field from the seats, the supporting fans on each team are separated by buffer zones so that they do not go at each other, and shock police standing guard the whole business, sometimes none off this prevents all out war.

Also what you need to understand. Is that ultras/fans are running the club/show! So if a team doesn't do well, and fans want coach, director or whatever to be fired, then there is nothing you can do as a club other than firing the man, or selling a player or whatever. Because if they don't... they will be given a visit to their homes, or stadium will be destroyed. etc.
