Joe. Ive been into Italian 2 Strokes from the 50's and 60's for 40 years and I've never seen or even heard of one of these before. Thats one HELL of a find on the British scooter scene. Left hand gear change/clutch was standard on Italian scooters (Lambretta, Vespa etc) at the time. This scooter belongs in a museum. Seriously. Fantastic find that needs expert restoration in my opinion.

I agree in getting a soda blaster to free up rust when getting these things loose. You might want to brush some acid on to loosen crusty parts. Use gloves everyone… do it outside if possible and have water ready nearby.

The twist grip gear change was standard on scooters. No missing cover on the side of the engine, it's fan cooled. That's where the air comes out. Lots of motorcycle manufacturers had a stab at making scooters, but they didn't do well. They all looked clumpy compared to Lambrettas and Vespas. A rarity, though. Well worth a restoration. Go on, Joe, you can do it... 🇬🇧👍

That coil is identical to a Lambretta coil. Why? Because Ducati made the ignition system for Lambretta! Make sure the ht lead has plenty of copper inner showing before it's plugged into the coil. That flywheel needs an extractor. It looks like the same size as a Lambretta extractor. They are easily available. Do NOT jam a screwdriver in between the fan blades. They are VERY brittle and will snap off in a heartbeat.

There are alot of 52mm Pistonrings in 1,2mm and 1,5mm for chainsaws like Stihl and Husquarna. maybe one of them fit the shape of the "anti rotation pin". Also i found 4 stroke rings for CB50 and CY50 75ccm cylinders which may could made matching with a dremel. Such Rings are here round about 2€ each so think it´s worth a try to make some of them fit in. The Stihl 046 have the 1,2mm and the 064 or the husquarna 272 have the 1,5mm. one of them have to fit.

I wouldn't be surprised if there isn' a chainsaw or lawn mower engine that uses rings that are so close that you could file the ring gap to fit the diameter and if you have to, you could slightly widen the ring grooves on the piston with a lathe. By the way, when shifting from one gear to the next, you have to pull the clutch lever in, shift and then let back out. That's a rare little scooter and very worthy of a restoration.

You could use some random rings for the same or a bit bigger diameter and just file the ends to fit by the pins. Just make sure the thiccness is correct.

I could see sporadic sparks around 20:46 which was frustrating as a viewer 😂 I have a theory around the missing ring. The gentleman who sold it knows a thing or two and likely took the top end off and tried to take the rings off, breaking the bottom ring in the process. Realized he can’t get a replacement so he put it back together and put it up for sale.

I have one of these, they are definitely rare but not worth much. They are a loose copy of a Lambretta Cento so some parts will work (I got a fuel petcock and it was very close but a bit off where the rod attaches). I also got an entire cable kit from the Lambretta and most were close enough to work but some were the wrong length and I just made new ones to fit. The engine was also used in the Ducati 100 Scrambler and Mountaineer.

You need to call Wiseco, and any other piston maker you can think of, and see if they something that will fit. There are a lot of 100cc 2-strokes that have been made and one of them might match up. Even if they don't have just the rings they might have a piston and ring combo that will work. Good luck.

You might be able to call Mahle and give them the piston and cylinder dimensions (piston OD, ring groove dias, groove widths, cylinder bore) and ask if they have rings to fit. Years ago I did that for many oddball engines by calling Hastings Piston Ring, but I think that firm was absorbed by Mahle or another company. They used to have rings for just about any engine. When inquiring, I would not mention what the rings are for, some companies in my area just don't support anything for Italian machines or other long obsolete European machines, no idea why.

Not 272 miles. She's been around the clock, many times. Mileage or Km only goes up to 10k. I guess a previous owner tried to fix bad piston rattle, removed one of the rings to match a spare and put the cylinder back together without one ring. The Ducati name makes this amazing.

Del'Orto Carbs were used on a number of early BMW boxer engines. Been a while so I don't know if anyone still does. As far as the rings and piston you could try similar engine specs in the Sachs engine lineup. I owned a BUNCH of old DKW Leading Link MX100's and was privy to some discussions during a few shop talks that these might be very close. The Sachs motors were SORELY under powered so they normally didn't get much abuse. Comparatively speaking of course. The 9 units I had got beat to crap but you couldn't tell because they just didn't have the oomph to tear anything up. 2 tech's I knew took the Leading Link front ends off of them and installed them on a few CZ's and Greeves Griffon that lunched it's own version. Good luck. That thing needs love!

I did same thing with choke cable on an 86 yamaha moped. I heated side of choke tube with pencil torch. Then used a flathead screw driver to carefully turn choke barrel to remove it. Also you had flywheel exposed so I use a corded drill on the flywheel nut to turn over engine. One for higher rpm on low compression and two so I don't break kick start or pull start. Not necessarily. Anyone who’s removed one from a bicycle engine or dirt bike has done it the exact same way. Big thing is putting some buffer between the piston and stud threads. I’ve had thread marks (unknown to me) wear out the nikisil lining on a mk2 piaggio cylinder. Being careful will help tremendously, but without removing the engine, it’s really the only way. The piston will his the cylinder studs before the rod try’s spreading the lobes apart. In most all high performance builds, the pin will come out much much easier

Get the piston dimensions and try to find one. I'm into all motorsports, recently I got into motorized bicycles. To go fast, we do hybrid engines, where we take a Chinese bicycle engine kit for the bottom end case, then put race scooter cylinders, minarelli or piaggio/ aprillia am6 or chainsaw cylinders. You could try to contact rdm performance or smolik performance. They do performance parts for these motorized bicycles and do machine work, they could probably make you a piston. The engine looks quite similar to what we use.

Id try rings from a Honda 50 or something like that to see how it works. Long as the size is right and ring gap is close it should work because finding parts for this will be a nightmare

There must be a piston to fit this from another application. Going to be a lot of research Joe.

In my 42 yrs of living on this earth 🤔. Never knew these little scoots even existed lol. That's the reason I like your channel my friend 🎬🙆🛵👍. My friend is restoring a Vespa from the early 50s. Thanks for sharing these cool little machines. Salute 😎✌️

I was going to suggest a Lambretta or Vespa piston. I know a Yamaha piston we used to use for engine barrel/piston tunning.

That thing is definitely special enough to restore. Hone and mic that cylinder and see if WiseCo will make you a piston and rings for it.

You got RS125 yeah I got one somewhere. Looks very similar to Vesper maybe they made it for Ducati. do not have any ether easy Start try putting your hand over the inlet of the carburettor on and off this will force fuel through the carburettor what's great if you have fuel pump issues as well find a ring that's the same width that can go in the piston but is bigger you just have to grind down the end so it meets up propagap! I'm sure Vesper had 100cc engines couple of Vespa rings might work they should be easy to get hold of if the slightly tight fit just grind them down

Stihl uses a 52 mm piston on their 460 saws so they might work. I wish I kept the old piston when I rebuilt the last one I would send it to you.
