Man, just imagine yourself as a Japanese kid coming downstairs and opening this on Christmas morning 2005. Not only do you have a brand new upgrade copy of Windows XP Professional and a Windows packaging arts and crafts kit, you even have a booklet to put your Windows stamp collection, and to top it all off, a signed letter and photo from Bill Gates!!! Could you imagine the excitement???

For reference, the 20th Anniversary Coupon's expiration date was April 30, 2006 (Heisei 18). This was from when Japan still used their Calendar system, which correlates to the Emperor of Japan. On May 1, 2019, the Reiwa era began, and many Japanese newspapers, drivers licenses, IDs, etc switched from the Japanese system to the Gregorian system. When newspapers use two digit years, they're now referring to Gregorian years. However, the Government of Japan still adheres to the Japanese calendar system, as I read through some legal documents in 2020 and 2021.

The Gregorian calendar was being used at that time as well, since the mid 1900s I think it's been used. The Era names were also being used.

This comment is two years old but era names and calendar systems are two separate things, and era names are still in use. Japanese government officially announced the switch from the lunisolar calendar to the current Gregorian (solar) calendar in 1872. Different calendar systems divide time differently into years and months (hence “Chinese New Year”). The era name is merely an alternative way to name years, e.g. the Common Era year 2024 is also called the year Reiwa 6, and is not called a calendar system itself. Japanese era and the C.E. have been used in conjunction. Usage of Japanese era names is slowly declining but the change is very gradual, and an official nation‐wide switch has never happened. Individual organizations may decide to change their document formats independently. Also we generally avoid writing C.E. years in two digits. Confusable not only with 19xx but also with Japanese era years, it’s doubly problematic.
@さゆぬ-x7i
@さゆぬ-x7i 6 ай бұрын
@@vardekpetrovic9716 Depends on what you mean by “the old system” (see my reply above), but era names are still common. The lunisolar calendar is mostly forgotten. Some calendar makers print lunisolar dates in small font alongside the Gregorian dates.

5:32 I suspect it's because US still sticks to the un-scientific 8.5" x 11" Letter as the primary size of printer paper, while most parts of the world have adopted the ISO A-size system supplemented by JIS B-size system, both with square root of 2 (~1.414) ratio. The most common size for daily office works is A4 with the area of 1 / 2^4 = 1/16 square meter (210 x 297 mm, or 8.27" x 11.69").

@@ttv_highping553 It's a pretty asinine response if you ask me. As I mentioned at the end of the video, the entire package has already been archived and the origami boxes are included in that. But I am making additional scans of them at the moment and will post the link in the description once I have them uploaded.

Anyone else thinking it's a little weird that they made the professional version the special anniversary collector's edition rather than the home version. I mean, wouldn't it make more sense to put all these extra goodies in the box a normal consumer would take home with them rather than the one for workplaces?

11:30 Such great idea! Miniature boxes! How did i never came to that, you can basically print anything on glossy paper and create collection of for example DVD size boxes. Wont be "original" but will have vibes of originals with fraction of cost :)

Windows XP is not dead. Like any good vs bad scene, the "evil" side tries to put these goodies into their shadow, so that it creates the illusion of the thi g vetting done, when, in fact, still lives, works and is not dead

I still use my copy of Windows Vista Home Premium to this day in order to run 16-bit and 32-bit applications :) Bought the OS that came with a Compaq Presario A900 from Best Buy back in 2008 as the very first computer to be ever used at home for everyone. Before that, my parents had a Windows 98 Second Edition PC back when we lived somewhere else around the early 2000's (only remembered that as I was just a mere toddler fiddling around the OS w/ games from the Best of Microsoft Entertainment Pack pre-installed then). Despite many criticisms, I grew very fond with Windows Vista throughout its service period up until 2017. Ended up buying a Windows 10 Home PC around the summer of that same year as many things were becoming incompatible to use (i.e. internet browsers & antivirus). Fortunately for myself, I've managed to preserve my old computer's operating state along with its original documents and added peripherals in my room. Only have I recently been using this computer again to restore/modify some internal components as well as visit some nostalgic features that make it so beautifully unique for its time ;)

Yup i think we can agree upon windows XP being the golden cut of all Windows Systems. I probably still have a guide book for it somewhere that explains the functions as well as hidden features and things like that. That included both the Home AND the Professional version.

It really was, like 2000+. Still fast with a ton of QoL improvements. Then Vista came along and ruined everything. Now there's no one left on the Windows team that knows anything about speed, efficiency or designing a UI.
