I am with you regarding to handle the time in order to have less impact during family time. Morning runs are the best, if you do not miss the alarm hehe, but always has the option for lunch but I find myself a bit in a rush but at least making it done. Even though I plan my workouts at least 2 weeks in advance, I will have to make some changes on the go in case I running short of time or any other thing that may alter your programme. My wife still sometimes do not get why I need to race, but at least she allows me now our daughters have grown up a bit more. I still need to be energetic for them and keep in good health :D and this part is sometimes harder than running an ultra Cheers,

Thanks for your message! Great insight! I used to do early runs but learned that sleep is just as important. So switched to lunch runs. Not easy to balance everything. Kudos to you!

This video is really helpful. I do not have children, but my marriage is priority. My husband is really understanding and supportive, but these are great tips to keep things this way. I have my first 30K coming up in May. I feel like this might be the doorway into ultras😁. Thanks for the video Rafael, keep up the good work!

@@rafaelhidalgo I believe it’s only about 3000 ft but very technical in most sections. I am fortunate to live close enough to train on the trail. Thanks again. Trail runners are just great people.

Awesome!! Bravo!! You are living the ultra father experience! Five is a big team! 😁 all the best for your 50k! What elevation gain does it have?
@timedwards1921

@@rafaelhidalgo 52 kms and 3,500 meters / 11,500 feet of gain. That's one I've trained for and it's now been postponed twice due to Covid. I'm looking at doing it solo in the area where I train which will end up getting me just over 2,200 meters for 50k.

@@timedwards1921 that sounds like a nice course indeed! Challenging D+! Getting that training on close to the distance and elevation gain will be a great prep for the race! I did a similar distance and D+ in Zermatt last year. You can check it out here, best of luck for the race and enjoy! here kzbin.info/www/bejne/eYXFi4SslJhjnNk

@@rafaelhidalgo I would love to do that, each time I see your videos I find myself, it is exactly how you feel, ups and downs. Eventuelly we meet in 2023 on Eiger ultra 100km ? All the best, stay healthy and try not to fall on the downhills (that is what happened to me as well), and you said it very correct in your video: the time or pace should never have priority, but to finish it. A "DNF" is the worst, even more when it is caused by an accident...in my view it is not worth to attack and try to gain time on the downhills, you save maybe 10 min overall or 15, so what, who cares haha....
@rafaelhidalgo
@rafaelhidalgo 2 жыл бұрын
@@miguelmike2555 totall agree on the pace. We are there to finish. Getting 10 or 15 minutes is not worth the risk of the DNF. 2023 I am hoping to either do UTMB or Diagonale des fous depending on which one i can get into. So this year will be a bit of “stone collecting” to get into the UTMB draw haha
@miguelmike2555
@miguelmike2555 2 жыл бұрын
@@rafaelhidalgo are you planning to do the UTMB 170km? I wonder if this is possible without support on different aid stations. I first have to do my first 100km, and then lets see. Especially overnight in the dark and tired seems not realistic to me yet. But of course, I find the UTMB 170 with its special music, the ambience, the status, the pros there an amazing Trail run, if not the most famous in the world. To finish this one must be an amazing feeling, but I heard the DNF ratio is 60% or more.

@@miguelmike2555 yup the 100 miler UTMB. It sure will be a challenge. But the challenge will be to get into the race in the first place haha during my first 100k i actually like the night section, so calm and tranquil. But UTMB will have two nights… we will see 😁
