Describing a simple 5 transistor 1 IC phasing method SSB transceiver for 7 MHz inspired by a design by SP5AHT but simplified. Note that as observed by Andrew Woodfield, the junction of the 500 ohm trimpot and the 150 pF capacitor should be grounded.

Small modification: Changing the two 47pF capacitors in the ceramic resonator oscillator can allow a higher tuning range. In my case 7.080 - 7.170 MHz with a 7.160 MHz ceramic resonator. This may be more suitable for some.

What capacitor values did you use to achieve the higher tuning range?

Congratulations Peter. Great video as always. And very pleased to get you in the log when you were using that little tx, whilst I was out portable. Great signal. Best wishes, Paul, VK5PAS.

I think there is an error in the RF phase shift section of the circuit. I believe the connection between the 500 ohm preset and the 150pF capacitor should be grounded in order to create the 90 degree RF phase shift at 40m.

Thanks Andrew - yes you're correct. That connection must be grounded.

It is very usefull cheap device! A modern SW transcievers cost roughly $1000-$2000.

Hi Peter, I am impressed with such a simple SSB Phasing rig,I have been keenly flowing your your you tube updates and sessions on a regular bases. I am interested as the rig you have built could operate on 20 meters and stable enough for PSK 31 or slow scan and would be interested in your feed back on that subject. Many Thanks for great content. 73's David Grey ZL1UTS

What changes would be needed to use it in the 80m band? (apart from the oscillator and antenna filter, of course)

Not a lot. All frequency dependent parts and tuned circuits. Including the RF phase shift bit.

I`ve always been interested in minimum parts homebrew transceivers but have never built a phasing type SSB rig. I did look at a design some years ago but this circuit looks and sounds great Peter. Would it not be worth building another linear amplifier stage for maybe 4 or 5 watts? Will you be posting the schematic on your website? M0DAD David

I've built the circuit, now I'm trying to get it working correctly, seems that by turning he potentiometers I cannot get the sideband suppression (modulation checked with a DVB-T dongle and up converter) someone have some suggestions? as RF transformer I used a T37-2 coil with 34 turns to get 4.7uH, could you please suggest how many windings could work for the PA output and for the mixer side? Thanks in advance 73 Riccardo

Hello! It`s a nice device! But I don`t understand - why do you use a low frequency BD139 as final RF power amplifier? There isn`t any "transition frequency" parameter in the datasheet...
@vk3ye
@vk3ye 3 жыл бұрын
BD139s are commonly available from retail electronic shops here. And they work well in the low HF range.

@@vk3yeThanks! I understood. I found the information (in the Internet) that the one has an amplification level roughly 15dB on 7MHz.

Is it correct that the phase splitter uses a 47n and a 470n capacitors? It just looks odd with the rest of it being symmetrical.

+KB8OOE Just a simple ceramic resonator. 3.5 MHz version should be easy with appropriate VFO or ceramic resonator. Not covered in the book which is mainly operating technique and what equipment & antennas to use.

Do you have this project in full in any of your books? Alternatively, the circuit diagram in a printable format? I use your channel as a training resource for me to understand ham radio practical skills. I would like to make a handheld walkie talkie radio using this project.. Could I use a switchable resonator to create several “channels” on 40M?
