As a first timer at this event I was thoroughly impressed by the organisation by UTS. I felt looked after and treated as a runner not a punter for the whole experience, very important as I’ve heard a few people describing it as just a money making machine. What I would point out is the importance of paying attention to the course details and mandatory kit, which if you admitted to forgetting a torch you hadn’t, and if you looked at the course profile it clearly stated the first aid station for the 50k was fluids only. Also as a long race in warm weather, you had the option to bring kit that was not required, but good practice, one being a bottle top water filter to take on extra water from any sources available, invaluable for those conditions.

Yes - I knew what was at each aid station and I planned accordingly by having enough water and food with me to not need any assistance. My complaint is that in comparison to other races (and I've done allot) the quality of the aid stations was very poor.
Thanks for the footage (as others have said) - your video brings a certain amount of realism to it. Although, saying it was a good job you did not recce one part (as you would have never done it) now instills fear if I ever manage to sign up (looking for 2025 - whenever they open registration)

Thanks for the footage of me coming down the Pyg track!

Nice video. You had a similar day to me, cooked by the heat just like last year. Certainly my experience of last year helped but writing on the wall when it’s that hot. At least the first timers now know what’s involved!! It’s a tough tough race!

Well done taking part. It was a hot day! The only way I'd have gone up the third hill was if there was a swimming pool filled with ice cream at the top :)

@@twinbikerun ha ha I was going to be timed out at cp2 so I grabbed Fanta and Coke and headed down the llanberis path slowly back to the start. And there was a cafe open half way down which was a nice surprise! Back next year I hope, gotta conquer this 💪

Didn’t realised I passed you on the way down the mountain. Tough day out but stunning scenery

Good video thanks. I'm planning to do the 50k next year but it's a bit disappointing to hear the feed stations are poor. There's no excuse for it really, especially considering the high fees to run on trails you could do for free .

Supposedly it was better than last year so hopefully they improve again next year. They seem to listen and respond to feedback. Good luck with your race!

I couldn't believe how poor the aid stations were. I've done a few small scale £40 ultras that are far, far better in terms of how they look after runners. Did you hear the MC at the start line say "you guys are getting great value for money today"? It all felt like a complete and utter rip off to me 😅😅

What were you expecting? A 3 course meal. It’s a tough trail run, not a picnic in the park.
@willrenwick8 ай бұрын
@@stevenmeldrum1944 Wasn't expecting much luxury, but was expecting more than just 2 stations with peanuts, banana ends and packs of Walkers Crisps. Much cheaper events that I've taken part in have gone to much greater lengths, that's all I'm saying. If all I wanted was a tough trail run, I'd run out the door and do it for free!
@twinbikerun8 ай бұрын
In my experience the cheaper the race the better the quality of grub :) They supplied crisps to the 100k runners at checkpoint 1 so they could easily have done it for the the 50k too!

Beachy Head Ultra has sausage rolls - highly recommend that for scenario and race organisation (well, more toilets would never go a miss)

For such a big company as UTMB they bring such disrepute to the ultra running, values and ethos. After paying all that money, sufficient water is the least you can expect at every aid station.

…just to be massively pedantic peanuts aren’t actually nuts…there peas - or so says QI. Good effort out there! 🫡

What does QI say about the difference between "there, their and they're"?
