I have used Smart Rings in the Past, Smart Brain Sensors but today I have a Smart Ring from an Indian Company. This is the UltraHuman Ring priced at Rs 22499, the second product from this company that I have started testing and I have been wearing this Ring from over a week and shall share my thoughts based on the complete experience. First of all, let's open this package and look at the package contents.
On the Box there are all the details along with size & colour and the one which I have is the Cyber Grey colour. Once we open the Box we have the Smart Ring before us along with a Reading manual that gives you all the details and a Wireless Charger that looks very unique and connects with a Type-C Cable that we get within the box itself.
Taking a close look at the Ring, it's a Swimproof, IP6X dust Resistant and looks very simple while from the front you wouldn't even guess that it's a Smart Ring though my personal suggestion would be to go for the other color options that might look more stylish when compared to this dull matt finish grey colour. Again, that's a personal preference.
Next up, you just have to place the ring on the charger and then download the UltraHuman App to pair it with your Smartphone. Within a few minutes the Ring was connected and running and would need a few hours of data to give you some insights.
Lets look at the features in detail and now talk about my personal experience.
Comfort Level - The Ring was a perfect fit for me based on the size ordered but honestly speaking during the night and early morning I felt little discomfort around the finger and its probably because of getting habituated to a ring on the finger.
The Design - The Design is quite decent though after looking at this unit, I wish to swap to the Glossy version that might have looked better. The Built is quite good because I noticed scratches on the body during regular wear and they went away later, giving a hint that it's made quite well. NOTE: I later read that Ultrahuman Ring’s outer shell is made from Titanium. It is coated with Tungsten Carbide, which makes it resistant to everyday wear and tear.
Battery - Ultrahuman claims 6 days of battery but after the initial setup at 65% after using it for a day, the Battery went from 65% to 48% in day #1, followed by from 48% to 27% in day #2 and based on this I think it would last easily for 4 days and might go upto 5 days but that's decent enough compared to the daily charging with my Apple Watch, though that said it does take a good amount of time to just charge the ring and I experienced upto 2 hours for the same.
Application - The App is super good but there's one thing that I didn't like in it which was the push towards buying their CGM Sensors but let's actually look at the main features on the App. Starting off, it gives the Movement Index that's a score but once you tap on it, it shows the actual steps count, active hours, calories burnt and the workout frequency data.
Next up is the Recovery Score that is formed based on data from your sleep, movement, temperature, resting heart rate and the higher is better.
Finally comes the sleep Index that gives you data based on your sleep efficiency and here I did notice a bug too, example it said the Heart Rate became zero but I do recall removing the ring for a few minutes and it updated the data as 0 BPM and hence based on this give a warning which clearly shows that it failed to detect what I did.
Another interesting data point is the temperature which is shown in the app and something I wish all the Fitness Trackers should be offering because at times we get to know if the body temperate is going up even though we are not working out and that could give a trigger on why this has happened and probably we can know if the body is experiencing fever.
29th March - Took a Nap & it Noticed it while Apple Watch does not detect
Pricing & Conclusion - The Ring was initially made available at a price of Rs 14,999 while now available at 22,499 I feel that the pricing is quite high compared to what we actually get out of it. Yes, its an amazing product considering the form factor, while it does not showcase it has a lot of tech inside it, I feel that the product would have been completely recommended at Rs 10,000 price point while this will only be possible if there was more competition & talking about more options, stay tuned within a few weeks I will be talking about another Smart Ring that's actually better priced. Stay tuned to know more about the same.
