I have almost everything you listed, and agree with all of them except the Nylofume. The first times out, I liked it but now...man, it's soooo crunchy and loud, I can't stand that sound. Although, they're cheap as dirt....so maybe put a new one in the pack every other time, that might work for me. I'm right around your base weight as well...with the Dan Durston combo - Kakwa44L and Xmid Pro1P. Good stuff buddy, can't wait to see what you have in store for this winter.. Maybe a Hotsie Hammock outing? Hot Tenting with 2 ppl is doable, if you can split up the weight...and get a UL stove.

In some items I'm lighter than you and others heavier. LiGHTER ->Tarptent NOTCH Li, no chair. HEAVIER-> Osprey EXOS 58 pack, Western Mountaineering Megalite mummy.

X-Mid pro 2+ sounds super interesting. Earlier this spring I purchased X-Mid2 Reg version instead of a pro because Pro was advertised as 48 inch wide and reg version as 52 inch. And we use Zenbivy Double Bad 50" as our sleep system, and it just fits inside the 52" floor of our tent. Having said that, we still have no problems with condensation, as it is a double wall tent, so our quilt does not get wet.

Some are, but some people are willing to pay for something that is going to be comfortable on trail and at camp - especially if they get out on a lot of trips. For someone who backpacks a handful of days a year, expensive gear might not be worth it.

I wondered about the pillow myself. I thought why not carry a waterproof pouch of some sort you can stuff with clothing not in use--especially some of that Merino wool. I've never seen a blow-up style that worked.

I love leukotape as well, except for the adhesive residue it leaves on my socks (liner or wool) which is difficult to remove.

A lil alcohol from my alcohol stove cook kit, does the trick to dissolve the glue. Methyl hydrate. Just be careful as it's poisonous, and easily absorbed into ur skin. And alot cheaper than bioethanol here in 🇨🇦 $14.99 for 3.78L jug = 12¢/30ml burn 2cups water

On the lightweight comfort side, my Tarptent Double Rainbow Li is an awesome shelter. 50” wide, real headroom, can be freestanding, can be double walled, can be crammed into smaller uneven spots. Worth the extra weight to me, but still under 2lbs. However, it is expensive like other 2P DCF tents.

I’ve been using the DreamSleeper for a year but I use a neck gaiter around it so I’m not sleeping on plastic and then I tie shock cord around the inside to attach it to my pad. This allows you to use a pillowcase whereas your method does not.

If you ever need another pink titanium spoon (which as I understand are no longer sold), you can anodize it yourself with water, baking soda, and some 9-volt batteries (see kzbin.info/www/bejne/j5CkZmaGjNJ1gtE). You'll need a lot of 9-volt batteries, tho, as it takes ~65 volts to get pink.

What has your experience been with the Ursack? I've seen people say that it doesn't work very well and actually rips easily. Obviously, it's going to be better than nothing and maybe they didn't use other smell proof bags as well.

Mines never ripped but it isnt an ideal set up. It holds water if wet and the sack is significantly decreased in capacity if you velcro it all the way. Personally, i use it on the bottom of my pack to protect my sleep system incase i fall and a rock rips open the bag.

I haven't had any incidents. Most of the places I backpack, where bears might be a nuisance, have bear lockers or hangs. The best use (for me) for an Ursack is when I am in more remote areas where the bears are not as used to humans and would probably just walk by a properly used Ursack. If you're in an area where bears are used to humans and looking for food, a bear can is probably the answer.

I only do a half hitch on the knot, so it'd be easy to untie one side and slide a buff on. Great for warmer trips where you might not be wearing a hat.

Its just the Archaul has had mixed reviews, both about the pack and their customer service. I have heard good things about ULA although they don't seem to get much press. Your thoughts?

@@JustinOutdoors Cool thanks! Yeah no phone listed, no med kit listed. Add .5 oz for the garmin clip. Any bags to hold gear in? Bug head net. Sunscreen and/or bug spray. Chapstick. Extra towel (besides shammie) for either your hands or wiping down pot. Extra mini bic as a backup for the brs stove. Car key, some cards. Patch kit. Without the ursack or bear spray you're still around 11-12lbs base weight. Besides the price tag it's still a very impressive 3 season load out for colder weather!

I think we need to change the rules a bit. Sub 10lbs if you’re under 6 foot. If you’re over 6 foot you should get + 2 lbs. I mean its just not fair. Our bags and mattresses are longer and wider.
