Ultramarathon Runners Epic 300km Endurance Challenge. A Running Documentary

At a distance of 305kms, Ultra runner, Shaun 'Running Beast' Collins attempts to complete the first known circumnavigation by foot, of New Zealand's largest city, Auckland.
More at home on the steep gnarly single trails of the Wild West Coast 'Running Beast' swaps out his trail running shoes for road shoes and sets out to explore the limits of the city, the body and the mind.
Some info on the gear used by "The Running Beast" in his words..
SHOES:
North Face - ULTRA ENDURANCE XF
North Face - FLIGHT RKT
PACK:
For smaller gear needs - North Face FLIGHT TRAIL VEST
when I need more gear UltrAspire ZYGOS 2.0 (I’ve been using UltrAspire packs for years now and can’t go past the comfort and usability!).
For the longer missions I use the UltrAspire Epic which is a 25 litre beast that takes all the compulsory gear and food etc needed for a longer mission/race yet compacts down as you use up the contents.
Naked Running Band (for training or in races for poles, extra water flasks, etc. Everything just sits there with no bouncing around)
NUTRITION:
Tailwind for liquids supplemented on the long stuff with my home made nut paste/mix/thingy.
Tailwind Rebuild For having during the the longer stuff or recovery after a big mission.
Spring Energy Gels.
CLOTHES:
North Face gear - mainly the Flight Series - Better Than Naked range which is great ultra-lightweight.
Waterproof jacket is the amazingly breathable North Face FLIGHT SERIES FUTURELIGHT™ JACKET
Headwear: Thir headband when it’s cold or a good old trucker cap!

I thoroughly enjoyed it and must congratulate Aaron on bringing it all together. What a wonderful product for such an amazing event. It was also great to see those parts of the run that I wasn't there for. I must have slept through all the raining bits....that's because I have some sense :) A staggering achievement but only achievable by the huge amount of planning and logistics that is well illustrated in the video. It took a village to do this run.

Cool thing! That story makes me want to create a similar challenge. Maybe a bit shorter. I need to grow my beard a little 😎 ...by the time it's ready I guess I'll make my body string enough to make a first 100km. By the way - how much of a rest time or even sleep was needed during the run?

Go for it! Shaun had two sleeps throughout the run 1 x 5mins and the second I recall was 10 or 15 minutes, so a total of 20 mins sleep over the 51 hours! Thanks for watching!!
