All of the Speed tracks do a good job of making themselves geared towards a certain kind of car, like full low drag on Autobahn or a light essentially Grip car on Tokyo Expressway, but his muscle is not optimal for any of the tracks, it's just an oldschool choice, which makes me think he's an old boomer who's been doing it for so long that nobody from Nitrocide challenges him simply out of respect, and for whom his GTO is a car he is comfortable with or/and derives the most thrills from. i think the reason that people went to love and then hold Prostreet in such love is that when people saw that EA ain't gonna give them a good game and racing games generally weren't as good as people wanted, they visited old classics, burnout 3 takedown, Gran Turismo 4, Prostreet, Carbon and all other games which are either forgotten, lost to time or were just not given much appreciation at the time. They revisited them with a fresh mind and found them to actually good games unlike what there previous perception was. If you look nowadays people love Carbon, Prostreet and even Undercover bcz they visited the games again and they actually saw that despite the bugs they are very good games. this romance reached it's peak in Covid-19 where people visited these old racing games while being stuck at home. And hence started a renaissance of these old racing games again being talked about and fixed. E.g. take Undercover for instance, it is widely regarded as the worst NFS until 2015 and Unbound came around, after that talented modders came into the field and made mods like Undercover Exposed and UC Reformed and Now UC has thousands of players who love and enjoy it. Prostreet and Carbon although weren't neither as broken nor as badly put together as Undercover, but they lived under MW's shadow for the more then 13 years until covid. And now we have overhaul mods and other graphical mods to be made for these games.

Carbon and Prostreet although are totally different but they are very well done progression wise. For some reason although Prostreet has much more diverse and complex gameplay then MW, it doesn't feel repetitive as MW or UG 2. Maybe bcz of the diversity of events or varying difficulty and the new blueprints you have to make or something else, but Prostreet and Carbon feel very solid. For me they better the MW and UG 2.

You do have to be that kind of player, but what gives me the perfect downtime between racing in this game is customizing cars and creating liveries. It's not mentioned in this video, but ProStreet has one of the very best vinyl editors in any racing game, ever IMO. It's only limited to 20 vinyls and 20 sponsor decals per car, but the amount of cool designs, the window stickers and the one-button mirroring make it such a solid package. And as you mentioned in the video, this game has such a great amount of soul in it, which makes the cars you make in the game so much more enjoyable to drive and look at. Great video!

@InfinitySevens3 ай бұрын
The vinyl editor hasn't aged well given how slow it is (I mostly prefer making custom DDS liveries like the opponents have), but people still make impressive-looking liveries with it. Modding allows you use vinyls and decals in any slot, so you can theoretically have 40 vinyls or 40 decals (this is also useful for Team vinyls, as being a decal means their text is properly flipped instead of projected through), and if one is lazy they can just use one of the hidden Special vinyls and slap a pre-made livery on their car in an instant (even if they're mapped to specific vehicles).
@LedzQQ3 ай бұрын
Also the amount of liveries and creative direction given to NPC cars is beyond crazy. I have yet to see more visually outstanding liveries on festival cars. And the fact that there's about 255 NPC livery presets? Absolutely crazy. This to me gave the teams or "clans" in the game so much personality without even showing them. Teams like Grip runners and Apex glide carry so much personality because the cars look like they belong to the same team, yet each has their own twist of uniqueness. I feel like I know some drivers like Rudy Chen and Paul Trask and they had exactly 0 screen time, simply because their driving style and cars gave them so much flair and personality.
@InfinitySevens3 ай бұрын

Great video! The only thing I disagree with is your complaint of the lack of mini-bosses. In my view, you're almost constantly facing "mini-bosses" throughout the career - but they come in the shape of drivers that represent the teams of all 5 kings. For example, Gavin May, Henrik Dehn and Rudy Chen are all members of the Grip Runners and are, respectively, some of the tougher opponents to beat during grip races. The same can be said for the rest of the disciplines: Boxcut (Nate Denver) has JP Laurent who drives a fairly fast Zonda, After Mix (Karol Monroe) has Frank Book which usually dominates the 1/4 mile and Apex Glide (Ryo Watanabe) has both Paul Trask and Ivan Tarkovsky who are fast in both Speed and Grip. I find the AI racers in ProStreet actually have very varied personalities and ways of driving and feel very characterful, even outside of the drivers I mentioned. You'll notice you race a separate set of rivals if you're in North America, Europe or Japan, as well as having them mix together whenever you're at a Showdown event.
@InfinitySevens3 ай бұрын
Not quite. The elite crew racers don't have unique performance data and they're about as challenging as any other racer in the same car (Rudy Chen and Paul Trask, for instance, are more of a threat because the 911 Turbo and Skyline GT-R are just much better than the competition). Tougeunion is probably the worst affected by this as AI drift scores are entirely random depending on the event difficulty, and it's not surprising to see their drivers place well in one event only to show up dead last in another (note that this is also why Aki Kimura is piss easy and why he never exceeds a score of 4,000). Modding at least lets us expand more on this idea by giving specific opponents unique performance data for their cars (like say, making Joe Tackett an actual threat). There also seems to be minor crews like in Carbon, but often the normal opponents tend to have liveries tied to multiple teams, which I think this was a missed opportunity (for instance, Team Z3RO specializing in rotary Mazdas donning the Great Wave wraps, Liberty Machines being a Drag team similar to Aftermix, and 3FFF being an all Porsche team as a possible nod to 9FF). Yes, I am very autistic about this.

I still remember taking a corner and the car breaking all 4 wheels loose because it had so much power. I was hooked

This game was my entence to NFS, the stakes can be extremely high on certain events, so when you finish its extremely satisfying, it's one of my favourite games of the whole franchise.

I absolutely LOVE Prostreet. It and Carbon are tied for my favorite games in the series, though I'd say Prostreet edges into the lead slightly. The thing about Prostreet that I loved was the atmosphere and sense of just me being Ryan Cooper. I formed personal rivalries with certain drivers, just simply due to them being recurring opponents throughout a playthrough and their performance level compared to me being consistent throughout the game. The guy I remember specifically giving me a run for my money every time we raced was Gavin May from the Grip Runners team, who drove a yellow Escort Cosworth. Him and his yellow Escort will forever live rent-free in my head.

Thanks for the video, I love Prostreet, especially when it first announced, because I love the idea of grassroots racing. My game modes in this game are Drag and Speed race, for me they the most challenging game modes in NFS games. Prostreet is the reason, why I keep telling people, that going fast in a straight line or driving at high speed on a highway is not easy, it's a bigger challenge to maintain in control of a car in that extreme conditions at extreme speeds, because losing control has a dire consequences and damages.

Just the rx-7 intro feels so deep atmosphere-wise, it leaves a permanent aftereffect. I think Pro Street is the most deep racing game ever, so much work behind the scenes.

One my favorite things about this game is all the cars the ai and bosses drive. The designs/liveries on them are really good. My favorite cars is Ryan Cooper’s 240SX, the Speed King’s GTO, the Drift King’s RX7, and the cover car. My favorite class is also drag. Drag racing is done really well in this game. I used to be terrible at it but I got better later on and used an old Dodge Challenger as my main drag car. Had some huge meaty tires in the back. Man that was scary to drive cause sometimes the car would just do wheelies off launch it was so unstable but also very fun to drive. I also loved speed class just cause of how insane the races get with both the speeds and the cameras going crazy the faster you go You make a lot of great points in this video. From the development time to the definition of “vibes”. And how trying new things doesn’t always come out perfect to how most games always lose their “soul” mainly due to lack of creativity/inspiration. Some people might say these are just common things but I’d argue that most people just end up forgetting about them anyways. And you can just tell by looking at the current racing genre. Prostreet isn’t perfect. But you can’t deny the dedication and time they put into this game. Giving it a soul and help making it stand out compared to the older NFS titles. And if they ever make a sequel I’d be all for it. Honestly this was a great review. Really enjoyed this one. I also liked the mic quality here. Very crispy and clear audio. Great work as always man

I still remember my first track festival. It was the first time I ever saw and heard actually high hp cars going around a track in real life, not forgetting drifting. Just a bit after entering the venue and finding a place to camp, I approached the nearest corner of the track and I think it was some seriously tuned Audi that took the last corner before the main straight and at that point, hearing the sweet sounds of the dump valve and the car speeding away, I was like "Damn, ProStreet actually sounded like the real deal". I had played it for about a year at that point.

When Pro Street First dropped, I was really unhappy as it a massive departure from Street Racing. Going onto 2024, now I believe how good this game was. Specially considering the current poor scenario of mainstream racing game genre as a whole .

The first racing game I ever beat myself was ProStreet. I got it for the Wii at my local family video for 5.99. Did I get the worst port of the game? Yes. Did I love it more than any other game I had played at the time? Absolutely. Despite the literal missing content that the Wii version didn’t have, I still built and raced every car in the game. Last summer I bought a PS3 and a copy of ProStreet JUST to experience it again, just so I could play it how it was meant to be played. After all these years, after playing all the racing games I had, ProStreet brought me back to “the good old days”. The era of 2007-2017 was a very influential time for me as a young budding car enthusiast. The atmosphere, the VIBE of that era of car culture, was entirely captured in ProStreet, and the cars, the mods, the liveries, everything about it is just what feels like home to me. The way cars should be built, the way people should come together, and the way the car community should be. As someone who loves cars in real life, games were a way my younger self could get a taste for what kinda fun I would have when I got my license. Now I’m 22, I own 3 cars, and my satisfaction I got from games is quenched with building and improving my real toys. Despite not being as passionate about gaming as I was, and shifting more towards my real life driving aspirations, there will always be a little piece of ProStreet in every car I build for real. As much as I believe it could be nostalgia pulling at my heart strings, ProStreet is unequivocally the catalyst of where my love and passion for cars grew, and it will always be my favorite game.

I have replayed & finished (2,00,000 career money) this game as an adult and the experience was mind-blowing. I didn't understand the game as a child but as an adult and an aspiring interaction designer, I'm seeing how the gameplay is well-crafted for its period. Also as an adult, I started with common cars and built into race cars through progress. I didn't buy cars but used the won cars during race days which offers sample cars by event organisers. My childhood mind was obsessed with selling the first Nissan and wanting a Lamborghini immediately when I got a lot of career money.

MY MOM WAS STUGGLING AND THIS WAS THE BEST GAME THAT HAD SO MANY THINGS TO DO. I HAD FUN EVERYDAY.

Always glad to see a good Prostreet video. I have to shill two things related to this game: first is Austin Ogonoski's video - man has some takes sbout the setting and behind the courtains stuff I have never seen before. The second is Prostreet Pepega mod. Despite looking like a joke mod at the first glance, it is a massive expansion to all of the ingame content, rebalance and tweak galore to handling and AI and features a new story.

The speed events were my absolute favorite within ProStreet. Yes, the controls were incredibly senstive. One mistake and you had to start all over from the beginning and yes, thy were very challenging. But the sense of speed.... Nailing those corners with subtle taps on my d-pad at 200mph on my Zonda or Mustang while the screen shaked like crazy while the opposition wasnt that far behind. The adrenaline rush that those events gave me, NO OTHER mode from any other racing game made me feel that way. (Until I touched Dirt Rally 2, but that's a convo for another day). And for that I respect Pro Street a ton.

This game was way ahead of its time. The game is great but the only gripe I have in this game is the vinyl editor. Rather than showing all the graphics and decals ala NFS 2015 to NFS Unbound for you to pick, it was instead, shows you one-by-one and then pick one. So it's a chore to choose one vinyl for the design you want to do. But thankfully there's a mod for it now.
