Another advantage of dual monitor setup is that in meetings you can share only one of your monitor and keep the other secret from viewers. You cant just do that easily in ultrawide setup without going all the hassle like choosing the portion and sharing in zoom app. Also there is chance that some of the video conf apps don't support portion or region sharing..

Great video! Another thing that just occurred to me (I'm thinking about upgrading to an ultrawide monitor) is that I wouldn't be able to "share monitor" when I'm webcasting with my clients without them seeing everything on my monitor. Using my current 2-monitor setup, I only display the one I want them to see (such as my PowerPoint presentation) while I have my notes and other confidential information on my primary monitor. I believe there's a way to "share application" while webcasting, but it means I would need to keep designating the specific app each time I change from one to another, which I don't need to do when I'm sharing everything on my second monitor.

In most content creation tasks it is also extremely useful to have one monitor not running non-standard resolutions, scaling, or aspect ratios. While your video editor, code editor, web designer, etc. might love an ultra-wide high-resolution screen... often you need to just see your video, site, program, etc. running on a standard 1920x1080 screen at 100%. I've seen a lot of developers working at some odd resolution only to find the image/form/screen/etc. is clipped or has scrollbars to 90% of people looking at it or things look odd because the screen is scaled to 125% or something. Advantage of the dual monitor is you can put a standard 1080p monitor their, scale it to 100%, and quickly see what your work looks like to most people. Further, you can change the scaling to quickly see what it looks like for other DPI settings without affecting your "working area".

32:9 monitors are way better imo. It's exactly the same as 2* 16:9 monitors, except you have no bezel. You gain a lot of flexibility that way as you can use a window in the middle and two vertical windows on the sides for example, and if you like you can still divide it up into multiple monitors.

will your solution work for my below scenario ?? I have a surface pro, which i want to connect to two additional monitors (laptop screen is too small for productivity). Now i am thinking to buy a wide screen monitor like above one, which seems to accepts two inputs. So essentially I want to use one wide screen monitor as two separate physical monitors. I know lg provides split screen software, which is similar but i can't do full screen any app on those split areas. To make two applications in full screen monitor, i need two physical monitors. Wondering, if this monitor can solve that problem ?Two physical monitor setup, helps me also keep many small apps in whatever way i want on the secondary monitor part. split screen does not allow this so easily like an actual separate monitor screen.

In my experience dual 16:9 works best for programming/productivity. I had two LG ultrawide monitors but I couldn't get them in a comfortable position where they fit into my view. Side by side was way too wide and top and bottom was awkward for my neck and workflow. Two 16:9 monitors were a good size and I think dual monitors are better than one ultrawide because you don't have to deal with the annoying snap features in Windows and its easier to put secondary windows on the second monitor.

I think you nailed the perfect setup - 1 34" Ultrawide for stuff like timelines (music / video type work) so you can avoid bezel distractions, and 1 other monitor, like a 24" next to it for app separation. I have dual 24" 1440s and losing 30+% screen space is not ideal. Having dual 34" would be too much. But having at least one screen with a lot more horizontal width is a no-brainer for productivity - just with the added monitor to right like you have.

great video, really helped me. one thing that wasn't addressed though - it looks like you're defining productivity as 'how many things can I do at once' but IMO, productivity is decreased when you're multitasking too frequently. I think back to one of my coworkers who told me that he only has one computer screen and creates virtual desktops that he switches between, because he is able to monotask and therefore be more productive more easily (he was a very bright software engineer). this makes a lot of sense to me as for my old job, I was by far the most productive when I was limited to a single, small screen (the job was pretty basic and required a lot of writing and batch tasks). For my new career, I need to have multiple things on the screen that I cross reference frequently. I think for this, my productivity would probably be highest with an ultrawide, but my personal preference is still leaning towards dual monitors. it's a really tough decision!

I've already worked with 2x24" monitors and one curve 34" display. I missed the first one when I started to work with the ultrawide 34". That's not just "more space," but it's easier to organize your desktop and focus on one specific task. For one monitor, I display my e-mails and Teams, and for the second one, the spreadsheets and drawings I had to certify. My plan for the future is to buy 2x27 ultrasharp monitors.

The only concern I have with a single ultrawide is doing screen sharing. You can typically share a single app or a full screen. Full screen on an ultrawide is commonly a challenge for folks without an ultrawide to read, but full screen is the easiest when you want to switch between applications. Sharing a single app is fine because you can size it properly, even easier with Fancy Zones from Microsoft PowerToys than snapping. I can create an HD zone on my screen and snap the window into that... but switching between apps in screen sharing is painful. What I am trying now is having a second monitor with a normal aspect ratio and I share that monitor in full screen. I don't like looking at the monitor ever, though, because it is seemingly a mile away from my center of vision (I have my ultrawide aligned in the center). So, I use OBS Studio to capture that HD area of my ultrawide and project it onto the other screen in a full screen mode. If I start a PowerPoint presentation, it overlays the projection. So this is nearly perfect. The only thing that would be better is if the ultrawide had PIP, then I could use the ultrawide as its own 2nd monitor for this purpose. I have the 34" and it doesn't have PIP.
@JonathanWCSGO8 жыл бұрын
Love the aesthetics of ultrawide monitors, but if you play FPS games like CSGO, they are not ideal. In terms of productivity I imagine them to be perfect. Great video as always! Just got one question: how do you do these "smooth camera drives", like in the beginning of the video (hope you know what I mean). Somehow trying to recreate it, only got a Nexus 5X as a camera though. Would be nice to know! :)
@HelloDavid8 жыл бұрын
True true! Maybe an ultrawide + 1440p144Hz dual monitor setup would be ideal!? lol. For those "slider" shots. I just use a tripod and slide the center column up/down but I've done fake slider shots before just by sliding my camera across a spare table before to some success. You just have to put your camera on something like paper or felt pads to get just enough friction for a smooth pull. Hopefully that helps.
@thedog5k5 жыл бұрын
I know its late, but why would it be bad for csgo?
@rayhunter76354 жыл бұрын
@@thedog5k I know its late, but it's like more data for gpu to process, thus less framerates. FPS DO help in FPS) and some games(overwatch at least back in the days) crop the picture, so you see even less(up and down). And 144 Hz ultrawide were rare back then. But... usually they expand the field of view and that helps... so like If you've got a good videocard and 144Hz on your monitor I'd say ultrawide will be better.
@MajorSinnerRecords3 жыл бұрын
I've had a Super Ultra Wide for 2 years and thinking of going back to 2 x 27". The problem for CAD is, you want your main window central, and the monitor itself. When you split it into 2 windows, both are offset. Great for gaming.. not for CAD..
@LinhTran-wr8bd4 жыл бұрын
I found that I could get maximum productivity with triple monitors. One in the center for my main window, one on the right for a second window and one in portrait direction on the left (for reading documents, window explorer, or coding). That way I won’t have to stare most of the time at the bezel in the center (like in the case of dual monitors) and avoid eye fatigue due to too wide field of view (in the case of one ultra view + regular)

When it comes to monitors...if you're a gamer,get a gaming monitor.If you're a programmer,get a programming monitor. Simple.
@ZeSquare8 жыл бұрын
Programming monitor? What? If you mean a Monitor which has a swivel which allows it to go vertically instead of horizontally, any monitor could constitute as a "Programming Monitor" since most monitors support custom mounts which would allow them to achieve this.

Best Video with background music. You really knew how to use it. All other videos that used background music kept the music as loud as the voice where you can not follow what they are talking about. Good Job! Viva CANADA ;)

Thanks for your opinion here. I have a very complex situation and decided to go to the dual-monitor setup. Reason is, that for my day job I need a monitor hooked up to my Dell laptop and have the ability to use my hackintosh on the side on the other monitor. In this case I use my LG 38" Ultrawide for the laptop and the Gigabyte Aorus 27" for the Hackintosh. If I switch to my photography side job then I use the 38"-Ultrawide for photo editing and the Gigabyte for anything else. And for Gaming under Windows 10, I use the Gigabyte as the main for games and the Ultrawide for anything else.

I actually really like your set up with the ultrawide and regular monitor setup. I am running a dual monitor setup right now just using regular monitors and it's truly amazing for multitasking. I have a few thoughts for those interested in going for a dual monitor setup. I would recommend getting two monitors that have little to no bezels. I ran a near bezel less and bezel setup before. At first I didn't notice it too much, but you do start to notice it over time. Once you do, you can't un-notice it. Going near bezel less also reduces the amount of bezel/dead space when going between monitors. For those of you who play games on your PC, another huge thing to consider is the limits or capabilities of your video card. For example, I have a 1660 Ti. While it is possible to run stuff at 1440p, it is best suited for 1080p. Because of this, both of my monitors are 1080p monitors. Hope this helps someone and I hope it saves you all some money by not spending on a monitor that you can't fully take advantage of.

Your channel is awesome dude, keep it up! Would you consider having a dual monitor setup with one ultrawide and one 16:9? Are there any 16:9 monitors that would have the exact same bezels as your ultrawide?

I've seen a Dell 34 ultra wide with a ultrasharp Dell 27 monitor. closest I've seen that have the same bezels.

yeah. I believe the Dell U2715H is a pretty close (if not perfect) match to go side by side with my U3415H

Hi David, Love your videos. I'm trying to get a similar setup and I have a 24 inch right now. I'm worried that a 34 inch won't match up the height properly. what do you recommend so the heights match up?
@sky1734 жыл бұрын
Very nice. What do you use to calibrate the monitors? They look good, especially since they are from different manufactures.
@Sidecutter4 жыл бұрын
The math for this has really changed in the last few years. Now, you can easily get two 35" curved ultrawides for the price quoted here for just one, and the answer to "Ultrawide or dual monitors?" is now "Yes". And it is amazing.

Have you tried using picture by picture mode on the ultra wide screen to mimic a dual screen setup? .... no bezel and full screen apps should work well ... but maybe the smaller non standard resolution would be annoying ?

Thanks for this video. Super helpful. One quick question...what are you using to mount the monitors to your desk?
@XxMsrSzprzxX8 жыл бұрын
Also, with dual monitors you can have one in normal horizontal mode, and another next to it in portrait mode. This can be very useful for some kinds of work. Not possible with a single ultra-wide.
@HelloDavid8 жыл бұрын
Yeah I agree. Two landscape monitors is a little too stressful on my neck so putting one in portrait is a little more comfortable
