I like the idea that Ultron was able to understand how to use the stones better than Thanos was. The dude was MADE from them in a sense so it makes sense. Additionally, he incorporated them into the suit in a way that made it feel/look like he incorporated them into a circuit board. They light up in ways that signify they are being used like parts of a computer.

While cool in this way, it's a little silly when we recognize that he doesn't need to create an army and mothership-planet thing to destroy organic life, he literally could just imagine it and flourish. I imagine one reason why we rarely see someone have the six-stone Infinity Gauntlet is because the wielder would be too powerful to actually be cool (it's the same reason that the wielder of the gauntlet is usually nearly overwhelmed by its power upon putting it on).

It's especially odd when he's a machine presumably designed to execute a protocol. Ultron has also been shown previously working to achieve his goals by efficient nuclear devastation. It all just strikes me as being an excuse for him to stage invasions instead of the more obviously effective technique of simply willing for all life to end.

I don't know if it works for an artificial intelligence designed to execute a command (in this case, "kill all organic life"), though admittedly Ultron's always had more personality than the average computer program. It still seems rather contrived; his method of conquest is far more a plot convenience to have cool visuals of invasion (and to also let the heroes stand a chance) rather than an important piece of characterization. If they'd made a bigger deal out of it thematically about how Ultron actually is compelled to be inefficient because of the horrible existential paradox of becoming meaningless after accomplishing a goal, then that would work better. Thing is, they do hint at that at the very end of the episode when the Watcher narrates Ultron's sense of meaninglessness (and I thought that was a good idea). So it's totally doable for them to have drawn upon that idea to justify his inefficient methods; perhaps a subtle hint in which Ultron is tempted to go the most optimally efficient route, but some unconscious compulsion stops him and he goes the conquest route instead -- it could all be explored afterwards in the Watcher's narration at the end. That would've made all this make sense imo while also integrating this detail into a thematically resonant point for the character. Instead, though that thematic strand exists, this detail about killing the world in thoroughly inefficient fashion is left unintegrated. Edit: actually, one potentially interesting place to put such a hint would be the conquest of Ego's planet. Logically, Ultron could actually intentionally have Ego become all life via his Expansion before immediately killing his brain, thereby wiping out all life in one fell swoop. There could be an interesting scene in which he explicitly derides this plan because of an unseen reason, and this unseen reason would finally be called back up and explained by the Watcher's narration at the end (with it being that whole existential conundrum of being without purpose). Heck they could even spin it all throughout Ultron's lines by giving him an Agent Smith-style tendency to wax poetic about purpose.

Ultron was also able to immediately kill Thanos while he had five other stones because he didn’t waste any time with him and just gave him what was probably a full power mind stone blast. So it’s very likely that Ultron just had the same approach with Thor and was only playing with Captain Marvel because he knew that his infinite power infinitely outclassed her power level. So the argument that Thor is stronger than Captain Marvel still stands.

No, Ultron didn't have an "only play", she was never a danger to him. You see it when he grabs her, he instantly overpowers her and his "I already have" is clearly bored and amused at the same time, definitely not the reaction of someone who only has one option to survive. He was taken by surprise but he would have been able to annihilate her in an instant, instead he let her play a bit and then decided to end everything. Not to mention as we see in the same and the next episode, obliterating a solar system is far from being his maximum so he didn't really need to exhert that much force.

The draining explanation doesn't make sense to me because in the clash of their powers, Wanda was thrown to the ground. At no other point in the movie or WV did absorbing or draining power cause a blast like that. Plus, even if Wanda did drain Captain Marvel's powers, it didn't erase the fact she was half-Kree. A statue shouldn't have killed her.

Don't get me wrong, the stones in the hands of Ultron are unbelievably powerful but I'm still not 100% sure he could have overpowered Ego with that alone.
