Umarex AirSaber Arrow Rifle Review

The Umarex AirSaber launches an arrow over 480 feet per second and 178 fpe. This makes it faster than just about every crossbow or compound bow on the market in 2021.
Umarex thought of all the features that you might want from an air archery product and put them into the AirSaber. It is easy to fill. maintain, load, and shoot. From a hunting perspective, it is more than accurate and powerful enough to take down anything in North America. The arrows accept your favorite broadheads. This would be a great gun for people that want to get close to the feel of a firearm in an archery product. Be sure to check out the hatsan hydra It has a interchangeable arrow barrel along with other interchangeable barrels like .177,22.and 25 cal so the gun is not just a arrow gun its really 4 guns in one .

I've never heard of this before until the newsletter from the Oklahoma Wildlife Conservation Office said they were making them legal to use during rifle season for deer. It's pretty neat! I would probably want one that was easier to cock though. Maybe they'll make a model with a longer bolt handle or something.

Is anyone else having the inserts blowing out of the arrow when you shoot I only had the three arrows that came with it but all of them did it. Thanks for your help

Same here. Pls. try the Goldtip crossbow brass inserts with the best expoxy you can get. I am cutting the Umarex arrow tip off using an arrow saw to install these, but you can also make your own arrows with .300 diameter (I think than is internal diameter, but not sure) cross box bolts, of which there are numerous choices. Umarx should put as much attention into their arrows as they did their gun. The inserts blowing out is unacceptable! But they should sell the vanes and have various insert options to those who want to customize their own arrows, such as with the vanes being more offset, helical, etc. At the very least the inserts should be at least twice current size with deep grooves and spaces for glue adhesion to the shafts. Preferably 3" in my opinion and made in both aluminum but also brass for more FOC and penetration for those hunting really big game. None of this takes much developmental work compared to creating an airgun. I bet they buy these arrows from China and are ignoring improving them. Too bad, the arrow is arguably as or more important than the gun!

For speed and convenience the Umarex ReadyAir. If you want to save some money then use their hand pump but you are going to be there a long time. Use the compressor it will save your time and your back.

No, Typically a garage or home compressor woudl only produce 100 to 125 psi but theses guns are pre-loaded to 3000 to 4000 PSI. You need to purchase special use, bicycle type air pump, air tank or compressor. Budget as much for it as the gun.

Save your self some big money and go to Amazon and purchase the one for $160 with a few modifications and Swackers broadheads you will own a deer killing air bow for under $300 bucks. Plus you can modify crossbow bolts for the gun and pay less for them too.

How long will the rifle stay pressurized. I mean does it leak if stored fully charged for any amount of time ? Could it be kept fully charged with an arrow loaded in a closet or such ?

Should be able to hold a full charge for a long long time, maybe a year? In general for storage it is preferred to have a low psi charge of perhaps 1000 psi.

I really appreciate you guys doing an honest review of the air saber. I bought one last year and it groups pretty decently well at 50 yd. Some of these guys supposedly are shooting anywhere between 70 and a 100 yd and doing like 1" groups. I call all of that a bunch of bull

the gun does not need to be cocked to fill, it has to be cocked the first fill to seat the seals, after you hear that pop you do not have to cock it when you fill it anymore

I have one...love it...was going to pump it my hand but heard it was a hassle and took to long...I go to 6he paintball store down the street..they fill it up for 5 bucks and it takes 2 minutes to do...highly recommend

For every 1000psi about 60-80pumps. I'll pump mine up to 3200psi and get 10 very high powered shots. Then I may shoot a few more times but usually keep it at about 2000psi just storing it. That way I don't have to start from so low psi. This air /arrow/bolt gun is very powerful and accurate.

When it ships, it is almost empty so you have to pre-load it so probably 300 to 320 pumps. Once you fire enough shots that it needs to be refilled , it will likley need only 100 to 120 pumps to top it up.

I feel like I heard some contradiction in the video when he mentioned that you have to cock the rifle to air it up and then a short time later he says you might want to load it before cocking. But overall I do like this rifle

To fill the tank from empty, you have to cock the gun. Otherwise, the air will not stay in the tank. You want to put an arrow in before you cock the gun to shoot for safety reasons. Of course, that isn't necessary just safe.

I have the Airjavelin which is a blast, I bought it first because here in Canada these guns are not legal to hunt game animals with because they are classified as an air gun that shoots under 500fps, the fact they shoot arrows does not factor in with our laws. I will buy a airsaber eventually but not likely till the laws change.

They are legal in some of the western provinces at least and there are videos on YT of deer being taken with airguns in Canada, plus I got the ok from a game warden to use them.

Hunting regulations in Canada are strictly a Provincial jurisdiction and vary from Province to Province. Firearms are Federally regulated. You are correct in that in order to be classified as firearms for the purpose for the Firearms Act and The Criminal Code airguns must exceed both the 500FPS velocity and 4.2 Ft pounds muzzle energy. These hybrid airguns typically have a range of 300 fps/34ftlbs ME to 480fps/160ftlbs me, hence do not meet both criterion and they also typically use a full length arrow so they are closer to a bow than a crossbow. Here in Ontario, the general hunting regulations prescribe: "Firearms include rifles, shotguns, muzzle-loading guns, air or pellet guns and bows (including longbows, crossbows, compound bows and recurve bows). You may use semi-automatic or repeating firearms for hunting in Ontario, but not restricted or prohibited firearms (e.g. fully automatic firearms). Air and pellet guns are not permitted for hunting big game, but may be used for hunting small game". Consequently, these air guns are already permitted for small and medium sized game but not large game.

@@vinnyscotti4651 lol. I live in Phoenix which is low elevation, no humidity and very warm most of the year. I get 420ish on full charge here. However when I go up north to hunt towards Heber or Snowflake Arizona which is colder and 6500 ft elevation I'm seeing closer to 380fps. Just my experiences 🤷‍♂️. Directions on baking a cake differ at elevation. I'm not Bill Nye the science guy I'm just saying.......
