My son is currently a sophomore at UMBC. LOL on the parking. There are machines near each stairway you put in your credit card, license plate and how many hours for your stay! There are many differences between UMBC and UMD College Park. CP is huge, has more programs, not much one on one with professors, and is a party school. UMBC has a high concentration in engineering and computers but there is plenty more. It is a well designed, easy to get around campus. Surrounded by a circular road so it is not open to a main city or suburban street. It is not a party school at all. Some kids do, but the weekends are fairly quiet. It is what you make of it. Sororities and Fraternities exist but are not noticeable at all. There are clubs but none seemed interesting to my son, as he is an introvert. It's a quiet school basically, so depends what social life you are looking for. I assume some kids shuttle or uber to Fels Point or Inner Harbor. Professors are generally great, especially if you get to know them, ask questions, stand out. Food sucks, not a lot of options on the weekends. No need for a car as a freshman. Parking lot is a few miles of campus and there are free shuttles to everywhere. I personally liked Towson better, but my son wanted the calm at UMBC and the master's program he is interested in. oh thats cool. Thank you! I'm trying to still live at home while in college so UMBC was alittle closer then Towson. Also I want to major in visual arts and UMBC has a great program for that. I hope school is going well for your son!

@@alexabrianne there are tons of commuters and there are lots of kids in many different art fields. My son is taking some tv and film classes for fun electives although he is a history major. Happy college searching!

0:57 Yuh University of Baltimore is a whole nother university (UMB, without the C). Yuh unfortunately many of the Maryland state universities have "Maryland" in them: UMD (the oldest and most well known) UMEC UMB
