The suggestion can be broken within reason either through physical inability - Allison's daughter wasn't necessarily tired but her body could and did rest and she clearly woke up. Because well after a good night's rest she would have to. Or by having another psychological stimuli overlap or over turn the suggestion. Patrick for instance falling OUT of love with her.

Ok this is really far fetched, I guess a conspiracy theory, but...what if each of the kids got their powers based on how their mothers suddenly got pregnant? Like I’m pretty sure Vanya was the child of that Russian woman we saw at the start. She built up feelings for that other guy she was talking to, which is maybe why Vanya has powers that are dependent on her emotions. Let’s say Luther’s mother was an athlete or bodybuilder, maybe that’s how he got his strength. Well, I was re-watching the show in preparation for season two, and I noticed that just after Reginald sees baby Vanya the very first thing he does is exclaim “extraordinary” , and I think that’s a pretty cool detail.
