Holy shit. What a FANTASTIC workshop and environment to work and learn in. Electronics, painting, clay, woodworking and metalworking along with 3D-printers.... I guess the student working there must be the best and should be extremely grateful to have that opportunity and be allowed to work with all the machines. Really happy to see that because a lot of school workshops are being shut down and generally student arent given practical experience nowadays. I do hope the politicians dont ruin that school also. I have studied in Umeå but not on that school :(

I think it's also partly because we have a strong industrial tradition up here. There may not be many people living in the north of Sweden, but the tradition runs strong.

It will come, though I have a degree project to manage as well, so unfortunately I won't be able to get too involved in the coming weeks. Cheers!

What a stunning workshop. Must be a dream to work on projects in there. I bet just walking around in it, picking up all the smells and sounds, it'll give you inspiration. If it's at all possible, I'd like to see a follow-up video, with the shop actually in use. It must be buzzing with people making all kinds of awesome stuff in there! Much appreciated for the video; I think I have to make a checklist for what I want in my workshop in the future ;)

I really wish it was, unfortunately the amount of work the workshop sees has a bit diminished over the last few years. As far as people using the metal workshop for actual metalworking has become less and less as well. I would love to show you more when there are people around, unfortunately at some of the projects we work on here at school are in cooperation with external companies it's hard to know what we can show and not when it comes to projects. However, if you want to see a selection of things which have been made in the workshop I would recommend checking out the Umeå Institute of Design website, and the degree works available from the last few years. You can find it at www.uid.umu.se Cheers!

The shop is wonderful, unfortunately there has been some lessening in the usage of the machines over the few years I've spent here. When it comes to the metal workshop there are not many people but me using it, and most who do don't use it for metalworking. Hopefully it will survive many years to come though, even after I've graduated.

Hi Daniel. That is a very well equipped workshop. I loved that Analog Oscilloscope among Weller Soldering Irons in the interaction workshop. No SigGen? Will we see a bit of your Electronics & Coding skills in near future? Cheers, Ali

"It's always a mess, as that is the nature of experimentation." I am going to quote you on that EVERY time my wife says my workshop is messy. (grin) In fact... I'm going to make a poster with that saying and your picture on it... and post it on the wall.

I'm a second year master student of interaction design, graduating in the spring. Though, I did my bachelors in industrial design here as well, so I've been here since 2008, and immediately fell in love with the workshop. It's been my go to place ever since.

Do it! I'm tempted as well, as so much has changed since I was there last. Don't want to disturb everyone madly finishing their projects though.
