Umi did a IG live for the release of the song and explained how the collab happened from her side. She also talked about the recording, mixing and producing. It seems the initial contact and collab happened in 1 month without involvement of labels. Then Tae recorded various takes and send to Umi for mixing and producing the song. He told Umi he trusted her decisions. She is very sweet and said the song collab was born out mutual admiration and appreciation of each others music.

Yes was about to say the same. She said the song was about her grandmother in Japan whom she doesn’t get to see much. Umi: When V left (for military) he thought about Army and all supporters. His team and my team worked hard it was very hard labor to push the song to be released on his birthday as a gift for all those who appreciate and listen to his music Umi: Me being a fan of Tae and Tae being a fan of me is how this song started. Like it’s so organic. There were no labels, no companies involved in the creation of this song. It was simply two people who appreciated each other’s music These are Umi's statements, Taehyung had been sharing Umi's songs for a long time and then Umi covered Taehyung's songs and they talked over DM and sent songs to each other and decided on this collab. Umi wrote the song for her grandmother and Taehyung wrote his own part as a gift to ARMY while he was in the military.This is such a meaningful and sweet collab💜

The behind story of this song is so adorable, umi loves bts since she was in middle school, and taehyung supports indie artists bcs he loves many different genres of music and he's been supportive of umi's music too so one day umi was hiking with her mother and she saw tae posted a song of her on his ig so she told her mom abt it and she encouraged her to dm him and she did! When UMI heard about it, she reached out to him via DM and she said in a live she did yesterday that they clicked and did this song, without companies, just the two of them and some friends. Both wrote the song together. The song has now reached #1 on iTunes in ca. 80 countries, among them the big 5 music markets, US, Japan, UK, Germany, France.

I love the song. I wish it was longer. Songs are so short nowadays lol, like just give me a pre chorus and maybe a bridge! but I do understand it was a song made under some time constraint like since October I believe. With whatever limited time they had, they did great, especially tae, he had so much to do prior to enlisting. Umi sounds beautiful but man, taes voice is just honey! Hi, Tae has shared music of Umi's on Instagram stories before. Umi did an IG live and said they were mutual admirers but she had been too shy to reach out for a couple years until her mom talked her into it and she reached out on IG and thanked him. She ended up sending him some songs to listen to and it all came together really quickly and she didn't even know about him going to serve in the military. Then she wondered if it would ever get released. Tae trusted her to do the rest and here we are with this beautiful gift. I wish it was longer but I'll just play it on repeat. Spotify added this to a Chill Pop list and also a Make Out list.

I love that he sang with a smaller indie artist that isn't someone everyone knows. To me it is a great tribute to BTS being that small unknown artist... and as a huge lover of music it makes sense for V to do.. he has played her songs before during lives. I have been waiting for him to collab with a female for so long and this song didn't disappoint. They sounded beautiful together. This was honestly such a beautiful song. It was more than what I could have wanted or wished for. A truly magical harmony by UMI and Tae. They did sound angelic as Blaze said. What I also love is how UMI mentioned in her live today how organically this collab came about between two artists without any company involvement etc from either side… that they were first fans of each others music. (Tae shared her songs in a live, she saw that was so grateful and reciprocated by covering Love Me Again and Slow Dancing, which Tae saw and shared the love again) UMI was also so lovely in sharing some anecdotes the last few days… she said that Tae has such a deep and genuine soul and is really a kind person which of course as ARMY we all know but it’s always beautiful to hear other artists pick up on too and praise our boys. I also agree it’s so lovely being introduced to new smaller indie artists through the boys. UMI mentioned that this song was created with the thought of love of different kinds. She started with the thought of her grandma that lives far away in Japan whom she doesn’t get to see or talk to often. Tae is also credited as a writer of his part. In the k-media press release they said that it's about the love of someone far away, and also had Tae's message to ARMY: 'That I'm looking forward to meeting you all. I hope you enjoy listening to it. And that UMI said 'Wherever u r is a song that a loved one conveys to everyone in different times and places. It's a song that reminds me that love is a frequency that can be felt regardless of distance. I picture an animated watercolor, with tiny rainbow cupids flying around with all different body types and skin tones and hair and faces, with purple hearts floating up and popping like bubbles, and a charcoal pencil sketch couple walking under this, away from the viewer, on a path beneath cherry blossom trees, holding hands and morphing into all sorts of different people.
