I think it’s most impressive because most girls don’t aspire to be percussionists, and being one myself I know how rare they are.

In my experience my college percussion studio (music majors) was majority women, but that's anecdotal.

Yep, in my indoor percussion ensemble, there were 46 guys, and I was one of 4 women. Through middle school and high school I was typically the only female.

I’ve been watching drum videos of all sorts all night long and not once have I seen anything as stirring and soulful as her set on the drum kit. How beautifully done!! I gotta know more about classical percussion music! How beautiful!! I’m a elementary school music teacher and my 4th grade students are starting their first drum lesson this Tuesday. They HAVE to see this. I’m deeply inspired by this!

Very nice!And the girl :wow! Compare this with Dorman -Frozen in time. Or with the older works of Bartok-concerto for pianos and percussion and sonata for pianos and percussion. Those of Bartok are really very good ( answer for those who think that they are not valuable works for percussion in classical music)

i am confused as to why this piece, as marvelous as it is, would be considered a "percussion solo"... clearly two percussionists are playing the entire time even though only one is visible in the front of the stage... please enlighten me, if you are able.

Hi! The concerto is written for a Percussion Solo, which is played by the performer up front. The other percussionists are playing as a section of the orchestra, not as soloists. They often accompany the soloist. For example, before the cadenza (at 17:48) you'll see the soloist and three percussionists playing together. But during her cadneza/solo (at 18:51), no one else plays. If a soloist needed to, they can play this concerto with a piano part instead of an orchestra. But having the rest of the perc. section would still be ideal (for me at least). Hope this explanation is helpful! :)

Am I the only one that thinks this sounds like just noise? Like as if the composer just decided to spill ink on an empty page of sheet music. I’m not knocking the players, they play good but this composition is terrible. It has no sense of direction in most places.
@Krumpulous Жыл бұрын
You can tell there are fractals (repeating arcs) in the percussion solo part, which I was primarily focused on. Typically a concerto has the ensemble compliment in accompaniment to the soloist. Whether it sounds like it makes sense or not is completely up to the composer in my humble, amateur composer's opinion.
@Krumpulous Жыл бұрын
That doesn't mean you have to agree with the composer's decisions, naturally.

Sigh. I think, sadly, there's a long way to go before there's a decent percussion concerto in the repertoire.

Coming from a percussionist I whole heartedly don’t think percussion concerts should exist. Marimba concertos are great if composed well but this was just honestly a disaster, and I mean she plays well but it’s just..a no from me
@yourdad5872 жыл бұрын
@@ShockzG5 percussionist : any being that makes noise by vibration : gives you no musical ear nor reliable or valuable or weighted opinion, and "i don't think percussion concertos should exist" : 'i don't think people should vibrate infront of others," or rather you meant people shouldn't play certain instruments together based on your judgement? essentially lumping music into genres and saying they shouldn't exist due to your own standards? genius percussionist i tell you
