Dude same happened to me. Get yourself a nice little bind n fly you can practice with and fix when you crash. That’s what I did to get my feet wet in the hobby and now I’ve built 2 of my own custom builds. Seems daunting at first there is so much to learn but if you spend a good 2 months learning everything you possibly can you’ll be a borderline expert in no time. Hope to see your freestyle vids someday brotha. Edit: didn’t realize that was 9mo ago. Hope you’re a pro now hahaha

Tommy is a genius and you can absolutely tell he poured his heart and soul into developing and tuning the 2FIDDY. He cared enough about the community to design a sub-250g 5" quad that is incredibly fun to fly, while also remaining *legal* to fly in the (terrible) inevitable future.

i will say i was also blown away the first time i took off. I ordered mine during the pre buy and got it pretty soon after. You missed out on the original button head screws, i think they were made from uncured jello, any little bit of torque and they just opened up like a round flower. Also, that early on GNB had yet to release the 380 6s so i purchased 2 550 6s packs. Right out of the gate it felt great at about 270 grams all up. I'm running analog with a runcam split mini. I was easily getting 6+ minutes from it not being kind. The 380's came out and i got some of them, the build comes in at 237 grams and i get a typical 5" run time on them. Tonight i was out just cruising around doing some exploring since i've converted it to Crossfire and i had 8:57 on the armed time when i landed ant i was still at 3.6 volts per cell. It's quite a nice rig. Beware the 3 blade props, the break easily at the hub if you crash. Also, durability, for some reason the bell loosens on the motor shaft and the 2fiddy will fly funny as there is axial motion. Super glue has helped and Ummagawd has been very helpful along the way. Cheers!

Having only mounted 1 vista so far and since they don't come with screws, the only way I could think of to install it was with a ziptie through the screw holes. I thought that's how everyone would simply do it.

@technoxtreme178
@technoxtreme178 3 жыл бұрын
I won't even look at a quad with a unibody bottom frame; too much disassembly if you crack an arm. 30 minutes to an hour to change and re-check, not to mention re-screwing too many times does "loosen" things. Replaceable arms take 5 minutes and are always a must-have to me.

From what I remember disc loading should not used on how it will fly. But should inform prop choice. How many blades, how strong props(resistance to deflection), what pitch. Also ... This is an impressive quad.

Maybe it's mentioned later in the video, I'm not all the way through yet. I imagine having a 2 blade prop vs 3 blade prop changes the disk loading quite a bit. So having a 250g AUW 5" with two blade prop is probably close to 250g AUW 3inch with 3 blades
@pippifpv
@pippifpv 3 жыл бұрын
The disk loading theory, doesn't take in matter number of blades or blade thickness. Only thing that it looks at, is blade diameter. Other than that, number of blades obviously changes how a quad handles. Edit: the disk loading theory, only tries to match the weight with propsize to get a similar flight feel of different build sizes.

1408, 1507, 1606, and 2004 motors all have approximately the same stator volume. I know that doesn't tell the whole story, but it says the 1404 motors on the geprc are about half the size of the 2Fiddy motors. The disc area of the 5" props is also about twice as large as the 3.5" props. That makes me think the 1404 motors should ought to be about the right size for 3.5", but I bet that isn't quite the right ratio of height to diameter. My "sub-250" is usually more like 275g. It has 1606 motors, and I've flown both 3.5" and 4" props. I prefer the 3.5", but even on 3.5" it is still super responsive on the throttle. I don't know exactly what's different about quads with high power:weight ratios, but my sub-250 just cruises SO FAST without giving it a lot of pitch. I fly it with quite a bit less than 15 degrees of uptilt, and when I'm cruising, I know I'm cooking faster than I would be with my 25-degree 725-gram 5".

My 2Fiddy 4 inch is the right compromise. Do not like the 2 screw mount. Too easily broken on ground impact. My 3.5 is the AOS. Very quick. Hard to go slower. Nowhere near as much flight time on 3.5 as the 2Fiddy, but I'm not ready to fly at top speeds with obstacles. I'm at about 600 minutes of flight time. I tune the throttle on each quad to perform to my feel rather than let the quad dictate the throttle. Do NOT use the soft screws that come with the Ummagawd. They are garbage. Mine snapped easily.

1. The 1404 motors are literally half the size of the 2004s (by stator volume). There is no way the geprc can keep up with the 2fiddy in terms of handling, responsiveness and power. 2. Tommy could have designed an amazing 3.5 or 4 inch sub 250 copter. But how much of the 2fiddy's greatness comes from being well designed and how much comes from being 5"@250g? Imho there is no right answer. The floaty nimbleness of a toothpick with low disk loading is fun, and having the fling of a heavy quad is fun, too. The rekon4fr seems to be a good middle ground (with appropriatly sized motors).

But… we Europeans need to worry… a self-built sub 250 quad falls in the Open A1 category which you can essentially fly everywhere below 120m that’s not a no-fly zone and a heavier self-built (up until 25 kg, wtf) falls in the Open A3 category which defines that you have to stay about 200m away from people and buildings (and under 120m outside no-fly zones) + you need certification. Self-built also includes non-regulated drones so essentially all BNFs count as self-built. And only the pilot needs to be registered now, not the individual quads. That’s for all EU countries as of januari 1st 2021. Ignoring these rules won’t get you shot and likely not prosecuted but can lead to huge fines if something goes wrong (flying into someone, something, somewhere (military domain)) and you get caught. Not telling you what to do whatsoever but just know that there are clear rules so you don’t spread misinformation.

@@hofa Do you think when a newbie buy a dji mavic from amazon care about register? I very much doubt it. They just rely on the restrictions in the fly app.

Hey Joshua ✌️ I think your explanation about discload is just one side of the flight experience. The 'fling ability' is not influenced by the size of the probs. The momentum it carries is defined by its weight!
@hofa
@hofa 3 жыл бұрын
TLDR: You’re wrong about the influence of the propsize 😆 Flingability is still influenced by idle spinning motors, airmode and the dynamics of stopping a manoeuvre. Throwing your quad for a split S will spin up two motors to stop the initial half roll and also airmode tries to keep your quad stable by counteracting movement that’s not initiated by the sticks (wind or busted up props spinning in idle) by - you guessed it - spinning up motors. Drib once explained that you can carry a split S further by putting in a bit of reverse yaw when doing the half roll, causing the thrust direction to be less in the opposite direction off the ‘flinged’ quad AND when diving a building, you should pitch down more to get thrust direction downward instead of ‘away from the building’ (thus in both cases essentially minimizing the impact of the described motor actions). Flinging a 250 gr 5” vs a 250gr 3” is going to be a different experience.

@@hofa thx for the explanation! Would be a great experiment to fling two 250g quads with different propsizes in the same way and compare the trajectories

i love my crux35, such a beast.. im thinking of sticking 2 bottom plates together (they only weigh 14 grams by the time you add some glue and longer screws it will add probably about 20grams) to make it basically a 6mm bottom plate, at the moment in standard form with no hd camera, just a battery with my heaviest battery its 190 grams and i get over 10 min flight time and it hovers at 20% throttle with a 75% throttle scaled limit, so by the time i add an extra bottom plate and a SMO 4k it will be about 250grams, but ill prob be running it just with a thumb pro so it will come in around 230 grams or something, i did fly it with my old sony action camera on it that weighs 90 grams totaling 280 grams but super top heavy where its tuned to be bottom heavy as it carries its battery below, so i found it was super wobbly and terrible to fly, but that could easily be tuned out by someone more compitent than me, i think a light little thumb pro or a caddex peanut or even a smo4k it will handle no worries chasing dirt bikes, doing freestyle where im likely to crash i think ill only ever carry a thumb pro as i dont have the money for replacing expencive cameras every time i crash lol, but im also looking at things like the turtle v2 so for my flying i can record on that, but if i want to get some sick shots of the dirt bikes i can strap a good camera to it since im not really going to be crashing into solid stationary objects like i do when im just flying around hitting gaps and stuff

Learned so mutch and sureley used your link for it. Best wishes and greetings from Germany. I Wonder what battery I will be able to use with my vista360 go mounted and staying below that 250g.

At 3:15 he reminded me of myself with my 5" weighing in at 915 grams with a Gopro.. Flew absolutley amazing, but you could really feel the weight. It was a great freestyle quad but you had to properly plan the routes you were going to fly. Otherwise it was perfect imo.

Which one should you get? How much money do you have? And the 2Fiddy comes with the Nebula Pro at RDQ right now. How much flight time do you like? The BabyHawk 2 HD gets about 10 minutes on an 850mah battery and I assume the Smart 35 is similar, but I doubt the Smart35 is under 250 with that size battery. Tough decision and I think my final call will be about price and availability of parts in the future. Will Tommy still have parts for the 2Fiddy next Summer if I break it? I know I bought a Rotor Riot 5" and 3 months later the exact motors were no longer available. I had to get 4 new motors (more common brand and KV) and it cost me about $100 and I have 3 Rotor Riot motors that will not really work with anything else I own. I would say if I buy the 2Fiddy I will buy as many spare parts as I can find right now.
