There's just no other band out there (at least to my limited experience) that gets you so fuckin' excited, in a spontaneous way, about the beauty and intensity of musical creation (as it's unfolding). Love you guys!!! Can't wait to see you again in Portland!

Sweet Jesus....what a groove. These guys are so good! Never play the same set two nights in a row. Amazing players. Update: it’s been 6 years since my comment here. Since then I’ve continued to see UM live every time they run through Florida and I’ve come back to this vid more times than I can recall. The players here are so locked and so deep into this groove it grabs me harder with each listen. I never tire of this. This “song” doesn’t even really “start” for two minutes. Extraordinary. Update in 2023 psyched for another Florida rum in April - St.Pete, Orlando, Miami.

The nurse didn't make it to the show. She was held up in traffic, so they jammed in her honor.

Why doesn't all of their music sound like this? I realize they don't want to be an STS9 or Bisco copy. But still, If they'd play this bad ass stuff all of the time, I think they might gain some more followers. Unfortunately, they follow this bad assness up with some sub-par southern rock slash dual rock guitar MOE slash Widespread crap that is so overdone and doesn't showcase anything cutting edge. I've been around the block. I saw Phish during 1.0 and I was at STS9 shows when there was like 15 peeps in the crowd. So I not a noob to the scene. I'm just trying to figure out what this UMP band is trying to do. Somebody fill me in? signed- retired wook.

They're doing just fine with their current fan base. I'm not sure what it is that you don't get about their music.
@mtbradshaw9 жыл бұрын
Didn't mean to sound so negative. I have many friends that are UMP fans. I guess I really want to like this band, but can't get past the southern rock jams. I personally think their jamtronica sound is much better than their dual guitar southern rock sound.
@CapeBass5089 жыл бұрын
+Mike Bradshaw I'm not quite sure where you're getting the southern rock thing. I've been to many UM shows and have listened to dozens more and haven't heard much, if any, southern rock type jams.
@mtbradshaw9 жыл бұрын
Well said. That's what I meant to say. Perfect analysis.

+Mike Bradshaw That's kind of why Umphrey's does appeal to so many. Instead of trashing songs that one particular person doesn't care for, they keep that book open for a multitude of styles that appeals to a wide range of not only their fans, but also themselves. As far as I know their musical tastes vary greatly so they are just putting out what is true to them. Personally I think them reducing their sound to one box would just make everything much less special, althought YOU may like it more. We can at least all agree this Night Nurse is amazing
@oldhomeplace429 жыл бұрын
like calling a new song freebird, know your music roots this has nothing to do with night nurse, u do sound good tho
@MrPataTaT9 жыл бұрын
+oldhomeplace42 They have a song called Day Nurse which came before this...I don't think there was any intention of referring to a reggae song
@redpilloahu_8084 жыл бұрын
So this has nothing to do with the Gregory Issac's song? In fact, no one said anything. Their instrumentals, although fundamentally sound, evoke no sort of emotion out of me that even rivals previous jam bands I've heard. Maybe if they had been around 3-4 decades earlier, and they could ride upon that wave of music and social revolution, they'd have more appeal. But, they do not, and to me, it's rather forgettable.
