The back foot no ball law is odd. It depends what happens first. If the bowler lands on the ball of his foot without touching the line but then the heel comes down on the line then that’s not a no-ball. If the heel remains in the air but is over the line that isn’t. It’s only a no-ball if the first contact of the foot on the ground touches the return crease. The front foot can splay out beyond the return crease as long as part of it raised or lowered is within the crease.

We've got a bowler who argues about the back foot/front foot no ball every week as his front foot is outside all the time but not his back, and umpires still call him for it! Good to see Sohaib knows the rules!

It's so tough in the middle to lower leagues, I've called back foot no balls this year and bowlers have said they've never been called for it in years. When it's like half a foot outside the crease. Just think we get a lot of umpiring done by those that only look for front foot because they think that gives the biggest advantage, but back foot no balls can give huge advantage.

Totally agree! Didn't call anything for decades and in the last few years I've called alot. Alongside this, running down the wicket has cropped up in so many juniors, I wonder what they are coaching! My theory is as participation drops, more part time cricketers have played. No bad thing but they have brought habits into club cricket that most colts coaches would weed out (chucking is another). I'm not sure there is any intent, just a lack of understanding.

@@uknsaunders Yeah we see a lot of that as well. The chucking issue is huge, we had one this year where we said to him, you're going to have to look at your action because if you go up to play 2nds or 1sts cricket when you're older then you're going to get called for it constantly and not allowed to bowl. The response from him and his captain (even though it was a club with a huge junior setup) was that nobody had ever mentioned it before, which shocked a lot of us as it was incredibly obvious.

Is it worth calling it in the lower leagues. Maybe if its youngsters moving up a level, but otherwise not worth it. Big difference between Premier leagues and a Division 9 match between two farmers XI's.

Never seen a bowler coming in from so wide of the crease. At least Sohaib sanctioned him . Unfortunately the free hits didnt materialise to anything. Too many bad shots from Walton this time around, to set up a real score for Barwell. Still in the race for 3rd place, and all in all, a good season with some good cricket, most of the time. Season is drawing to a close unfortunately, and i will have to put up with football lol

I've had teams whinge about being called for wides outside the blue line. When teams want to whinge and be cheats, they'll whinge and be cheats.

@@An_Oni_Moose_ I bet they know he does this as well. Really some players will just try and intimidate umpires into not giving what they see. For me, the reaction of the opposition here actually demonstrates they know he does it.

​@@Wally-HNot sure if this is what you mean, but a bowler doesn't have to ground his heel to bowl. As long as some part of his foot is behind (grounded OR in the air) the line it is a fair delivery.

Come on lads, don't take yourselves so seriously , while I admire that you have the resources to be able to play on what looks like a nicely maintained turf wicket and a well kept outfield , your overall standard of skills , fitness and understanding of the basics of the game to out think your opponent is sadly lacking.... Just enjoy the game lads , but taking it too seriously, you are making goose of yourselves.....

As this video shows, the big problem is that people take cricket at this level far too seriously. We play for the enjoyment and camardie. Some people go out looking for something to have a moan and a fight about, has got worse over the last few years. Good video if the narration improved, someone very fond of his voice and the cake references arent funny after a while.
