A contrabass clarinet solo. I’m the happiest guy in the band getting to play those 5 notes!

I played tuba on this amazing master piece in high school. It's so awesome! To blast the low notes on tuba. Jazz is so fun to play! Imagine playing this while wearing blue shades!

my man on the left was vibing the ENTIRE solo

I was in the audience for this as an Undergraduate when it was performed in 1996. I've been all over the world and seen a lot of great performances since. This is in my top 5 most electric performance I've ever seen. The symphonic band felt it from the start. H. Roberts Reynolds did Frank Ticheli's music absolutely correct.

Such a fun piece, as you can probably tell by the 3rd chair clarinetist lol. I usually dislike the longer selections, but THIS is one I'll remember for the rest of my days.

He played a growl at the end of the solo. Wow, that was neat

This strikes me as Ticheli's own version of Bernstein and Gershwin type of ideas. Love it!

Let's be real here - we're all here for the solo. But the accompanying base line is sick too. I'm tying to find a clip without the solo, i know I found it once but I can't find it now, so if anyone can help I'd be their friend forever!

HRR must have used a reduced group; the group on stage looks more like a wind ensemble.
@rufinomedado3184 Жыл бұрын
Looks like it, yeah. I like the concept of one-on-a-part (for the most part) wind ensembles, but the problem is just the limit on how much a single person can carry on their part and how it affects the music throughout a program. My high school wind ensemble is very close to a true wind ensemble minus bassoons and oboes and its a nice experience, it makes the group more tight-knit and I like it.

Is there not a contra player in this group?

I can’t find it but for some reason I can hear it at 1:40 lol

@@bigsaucesammy8321 it's just the lower range of the bass clarinet covering the contra part, probably around a low d or c sharp
