Make sure you never miss one of my videos. I'll also let you know about new content I'm working on and other interesting updates. Sign up for email notifications here - rsislandcrafts.aweb.page/youtube
In this video I show you a different way to make a fabric hexagon. They say you can't put a square peg in a round hole but you can make a hexagon from circle.
With this technique you can make any size hexagon you like. Search your house for round objects to use as circle templates and see how many different size hexagons you can make with things already in your house.
Then you can use your finished hexagons to decorate anything from coasters to totes and even quilts. Have fun!

RsIslandCrafts - Robin I'm using this method to make a bunch of little hexegons. I know it's not as stable as EPP but I have a crap load a scraps, I have only a little time between big projects to cut circles for these, and I have no time to properly cut hexagonal from freezer paper. And I don't want to buy any extra. So I'm working on these using this method little by little to make hexagon flowers. I want to make a spring time quilt with a bible passage on it with flowers at the bottom, so this is perfect!

StormChasingNinja I think it’s great that found a way that works for you and your schedule. That’s one of the things I love about KZbin - we can see different ways to do things and find what works for us. I like your plan. I think bible verses with the flowers will be beautiful. I would love to see your flowers if you would like to share. You can tag me on Instagram (@rsislandcrafts) or send me an email at rsislandcrafts@gmail.com.

RsIslandCrafts - Robin And I love watching all kinds of videos on KZbin about how to do stuff while I'm sewing, or crocheting. To get ideas on my next project. I like to do a little bit of everything. And I like to take techniques from one project or part of a pattern or something like that and apply it to other things. Next year when I get my project list finally done I'll start making dolls again, so learning different tips and tricks about literally every type of craft is good for me to improve on the dolls I've made in the past.

Hi Robin, Just watch your tutorial. It's great. You are a pleasure to watch. You explain exactly how to do something.,which is helpful to me. I like this idea, but I was thinking is you wanted a little body, could you cut a smaller piece of Heatn Bond, or something else, press it onto fabric and make a hexie. It's just a thought from an Intermediate sewer. Have a great day. Marie

My favorite method of making hexies! Not always in the mood for EPP, so this is nice change of pace to use up scraps and make little items. That hexie ornament is real cute! I make bookmarks with hexies, silk ribbon and charms. Thanks for a grea tutorial!

Felizitas Standeford It is nice to watch things up a bit. I like this method for appliquéing hexies. It makes them a bit more 3D. I’ve always wanted to try silk ribbon embroidery. It’s on my list for this year.

Robin, you will probably love silk ribbon embroidery! It's a wonderful craft, makes beautiful things and even uses up old silk fabric if you have any on hand. Old silk blouses are great to make into ribbons!

Just saw this on a tic-tac-toe video. Thanks for your tutorial it was awesome you showed exactly what to do. Good for crafting but boy would use a lot more fabric for quilting. I like using the card stock and can use 2.5 strips and they match perfectly.

HI Robin, Thanks for the video...what a great project for quick Christmas gifts. I have to admit I do not like hand sewing, but I will give this a try. What I would like to see is how you put the hexi's together in the circle. Thanks again!
@rsislandcrafts
@rsislandcrafts 6 жыл бұрын
Janette Atchley I love hand sewing but not for everything. Lol. Basically you just whip stitch the hexies together. I recently joined an ornament a long and the hexie wreath was the first ornament. It’s made similar but with a few more steps than what I just showed. There is a how to video that shows how they made the wreath. m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/kJzcnaqfeamhns0 I will be showing how to make hexie flowers from start to finish but it will be a few weeks. If you search sewing fabric hexies together there are several videos available. Just none like me 😉😂😊😱. Just kidding. Lol

This tutorial just popped up in my recommendations. I love how quick it is to make these hexagons - great for decorative purposes. I was thinking; if you sewed all the ends together when you've finished, then maybe you could cut the thread that's showing on the other side? Just a thought :)

I love fiskars circle cutter but it's really pricey. Instead I use a wide mouth canning lid as a template the I sew them exactly the same as demonstrated. I made a 20" table topper for my round kitchen table and it always gets a lot of compliments.

@rsislandcrafts
@rsislandcrafts 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! If you are measuring your hexie on one side and not across the entire hexie you would start with a 4” circle. If you are measuring across the hexie I would try a 2” circle. As always cut and make one hexie first to see if your measurements are correct and that you like your finished hexie.

@rsislandcrafts
@rsislandcrafts 5 жыл бұрын
Abbey P I don’t have one within easy reach but It might be large enough for a mug. My only concern would the hole in the center. I’m clumsy and I would worry that if I don’t set my mug down just right It would be tilted. You could appliqué them onto a plain mug rug.

It might not be the process if you need very accurate hexagons. It does work well if you’d like to decorate a tote bag with hexagons or a different project. Some might not use this process to make a grandmother’s flower garden.
