I have been a USC fan for close to 55 years. Season ticket holder at one point during the good years. I really thought Riley was going to be the guy to bring back to SC the teams that we all knew and loved. Sorry to say he’s not that dude. His play calling was terrible. Mismanagement of the clock (again) and unfortunately the missed tackles and poor (horrendous) offensive line play came back to bite us in the ass yet again. I really feel we are in worse shape than when Clay Helton was here. At least we knew what we were getting. Bring back Kiffen and LR please go to the NFL.

The Big Ten is filled with big offensive and defensive linemen. There is a reason the Big Ten has so many linemen drafted every year. The USC offensive line was recruited to play in the PAC-12 where defensive linemen aren't 300 lbs or more. The difference between blocking a 280 lb and a 320 lb defensive linemen is significant - especially in the fourth quarter.

Only player to show up against Minny. Will have to hope Penn State (5-0) melts down in run defense but Penn State is -5.5, so Vegas has them losing again to be 3-3. No, USC with 4 loses, extremely soft schedule, including to an overall medium level and neutered Michigan team, and not getting into the B1G championship game means there is zero chance they get into the playoffs. Without Woody Marks… who knows.

I think everyone is missing a very important piece of this puzzle. Caleb Williams covered up a lot of rileys STUPID play calling. riley is to busy trying to be a genius calling plays, but he is blind to calling plays that will work based on what the "D" is giving him. Why, is he calling plays that take 3 to 5 seconds to develop when the "O LINE" can't even protect for 2 seconds? Moss is a terrific QB but he is not Caleb Williams escaping pressure. Williams was always running for his life because riley was incapable of calling quick hitting plays to keep Williams from having to run for his life. Moss has know chance and won't survive through half the season. It seemed he was calling plays in the first half that were quick throws and counter rubs that were effective and eventually would have wore down the Minnessota "D" pressure, but in the second half all riley called were plays that took a lifetime to develop and didn't give Moss any time to execute effectively! riley knows his "O Line" is shit, so why isn't he calling plays that allows his "O Line" AND MOSS the ability to be successful? The only stat that matters is, how many times has Moss been SACKED, KNOCKED DOWN AND HURRIED! IT SEEMS THE TOTAL OF THESE STATS IS PROBABLY 90% OF THE TIME MOSS IS IN DURESS! We have 3 fundamental problems with this year’s team. 1) offensive play calling is horrible and so predictable 2) not using Jayden more in offensive sets is plain stupid. Poor O Line requires a mobile QB. Miller is not going to work without protection, that’s why he has so many turnovers past 2 games 3) turnovers are becoming a growing issue We are back to square one. The optimism prior to season is fading every week since Michigan loss. Which is a game that LR single-handedly fucked up. Now every remaining game on the schedule looks really tough. We may go .500 rest of season. Just being honest.

I think that this game loss and others have exposed Lincoln Riley as a coach-he doesn’t seem to have a back up plan or an idea of how to correct or improve situations. I see other head coaches that are either up in the stadium looking to get a bird’s eye view of what’s happening or they have a laminated chart of their plays and schemes-but not Riley. I also believe that we need a better O line coach, 4:47 .

Spot on comments Gabe. I find that the conclusion of the Michigan game and the Minnesota game are really similar. In both games, USC offense shifted from running attack with ball control and control on the clock to having Moss throw the ball. At Michigan Moss did two shovel passes that only ate 20 seconds off the clock. At Minn we for some reason stopped running the ball with about 8 min left in the 4th qtr and started having QB Moss throw. This resulted in an INT and then a Minn TD to tie. Too many turnovers!

I say Riley is caught between a rock and hard place. I was sure that Moss style QB was Riley’s express ticket to the NFL but no more, he is too slow to make adjustments in season and off. Yesterday, I knew the way out of Minnesota with a win was to run, run, run around the 3rd quarter but Riley benched Joyner and passed to relieve Woody. Didn’t work out so well.

Gave, I hope you had a chance to take a deep breath. Listen, any astute USC fan could have predicted during the LSU game that Moss is going to blitzed a ton this year. He’s not athletic enough to escape the pocket and make plays with his legs and we don’t have an elite offensive line. So the question becomes: how do we counter this attack? Well, it seems to me that we should use more two tight end packages on 3rd and long. This gives us options to either run or pass. Plus, it’s not always important to have explosive plays. Getting the 1st down and moving the chains is the goal. Keep possession of the ball. More importantly, and I’ve said this before the season, we should be running the ball 35-45 times per game. This style of play is successful with most top Power 4 teams but it’s not an offense Riley likes to run. He’s still stuck with the spread offense. Maybe that would be more effective if we had receivers that consistently get separation like Addison or Amon Ra but we don’t have elite receivers right now. We need technicians at wide out but we don’t have them. So ad they say, when in Rome, do as the Romans do. We were successful running the ball but we stopped running the ball. Riley has to make better adjustments in his style of play to be successful in this conference. Until he gets this concept, we’re going to continue to struggle putting up points.

Riley should start having two running backs in the backfield, using one as a blocking back to help with the pass protection. We also need to run more and pass less. And Miller Moss needs to actually use his legs more if the opportunity arises. At this point we’re playing for 9-3 and keeping our 25 class together. Fight On!

What a joke! USC has an average QB at best, below average most of the time. The offensive line really makes it difficult for an average QB. Turnovers and penalties, missed tackles, and poor execution on both sides of the ball get you poor play and difficult losses. It's not a good team. NIL is ruining the game for many teams!

What people forget about Iowa Wisconsin (before the coach change ) Minnesota Illinois and NW is if you let them play their game and you make any mistakes you can get a L whether you’re USC or LSU or anyone else . If you check the big ten west records you would be shock how much out of conference success they had . They want to drag you into the mud and if you go down there and challenge them look out

USC will see more of this playing in the big ten. Week after week they will not find any easier game as they did in their previous conference. Minnesota is better than they have shown so far. The new quarterback can throw and will get better in game managing.

All over the Country Coaches are utilizing jumbo packages, double tight ends to facilitate the Offensive Linemen. Don't see it. Used to in our Student Body Right days. Heck, Lane at Mississippi even used a DL as a battering ram & running back. SIZE MATTERS ! With Penn State the Coaches should consider adding some beef up there. Can't hurt...

I predicted a 3-3 start and a final record of 7-5 or 6-6. I am not on the team so I would never say “we” when referencing them. Next loss will be against Penn State on Saturday. Clay Helton had a better record than Riley does at the same time on their USC coaching record

Gabe, feel exactly the same, feel like the bottom dropped out of my stomach. We are clearly not ready to play big boy Big10 football away games and we are going to lose to Penn State and ND. Riley is so steadfast in his offense refusing to use different sets that lends itself better to running the ball. He has a weapon on the bench in back up QB who can run and pass and yet he doesn't even try to use him. Riley is clearly over his head in the Big10 so far. He still thinks that we are in the Pac12. He better wake up soon or we may end up being 5 and 7 or worse. That is actually our record for the last 12 games.

What you forget is that this Gophers team has been A+ since the second half of the Michigan game, which they could have won if not for a questionable call with 30 sec to play, losing 27-24. They are no longer a mediocre team, imo. They reason SC lost is because UMN is probably better and will hopefully stay on track till thee end. Some kinda magic happened during half-time talk at the Michigan game. :-)

The games he was one play away from winning -- a depleted, over-rated Michigan team and a slightly better-than-average Minnesota team. Those teams shouldn't have even been in a position to win those games. What do you think teams like Texas, Oregon, Ohio State, Georgia, etc. would do to those two teams?
