David Moyes failed for years at three different clubs in between leaving Everton and going to West Ham but is lauded constantlly whilst Emery was written off entirely because of a bad 7 or 8 game spell at Arsenal in his last season and the last month of his first season. Wenger's last two years Arsenal were 5/6th. Emery's first season they finished 5th and then was gone the next season. Arteta finished 8th, 8th, 5th blowing the top four which Emery got slated for then 2nd and 2nd again. It took Arsenal three years after Emery left to even better his league position in his only full season. Unai's elite and has been for most of his career.

Thought his plan to press Bayern inwards was smart. Bayern's ultimate strength is the wings, so to make the wingers always look to pass centrally was a good idea. Bayern didn't try to adapt to overload central zones or lure Villa into the middle and leave space behind. Bayern were a bit profligate and maybe a tad overconfident in this game, but its a long season and sometimes there's phases like the Leverkusen and Villa games. Its good to get losses early so theres an idea of what can be tinkered with for different situations

Ancelotti has really done stuff only in Milan and Madrid. He was silent in Everton, Chelsea, Bayern, PSG, Napoli, Juventus, Etc.

Unai Emery 4-4-2 somehow continues to do it's magic. They always play narrow and now they've decided to transition from the middle of the park with the running of Morgan, who looks like a mix between Kaka and Moussa Sissoko during his best season at Tottenham. Instead of trying to transition with wingers on the outside, it's probably more disrupting to transition from the inside and when the fullbacks invert, you find the wingers. Tactically he's up there with Benitez but just plays better in terms of building from the back. His teams are always balanced in terms of offensive and defensive transitions and they always find a way to keep the ball. I know Emery teams are winning in the champions lg when his teams have about 38% possession. All that said Spanish coaching is at it's pinnacle. The diversity of approaches and sensibilities are quite astonishing to see. They've married the technical and the athleticism quite well. Enrique, Arteta, Emery, Alonso, Michel and of course Pep all play quite different futbol; even the national team injected a new fast transition dimensions to use the talents of Yamal and Nico Williams much better.
