I love bears…always have. I used to live in West Hollywood 24 years ago, back when I was fit and just a little older than you are now, and there were bars where mostly bears would frequent…and I loved going there ‘cause I was usually the only small Asian dude and the bears would love to pick me up and give me bear hugs. Hehe. I’ve always said that I’d rather have sex with a bear ‘cause there’s more to hold onto and they’re the bestest to cuddle! 🥰❤️🧸🧔🏽‍♂️🧔🏿‍♂️🧔🏼‍♂️🧔🏻‍♂️🧔🏾‍♂️

As a parent of a gay adult child, I’m so thankful to have found this documentary. I was worried and sad that my child might not ever find love or will be accepted in the gay community because he is a bigger dude. This give me hope and happiness that there are possibilities and potential and I am happy that this community exists.

Good you doubts are gone now, but don't have these thoughts in first place. You should tell your son "everything will work out for you" also without such videos. If you are unsure, you simply lie. OMG. I wish someone would have had the courage to do a documentary like this 30 years ago. I didn’t truly come out to MYSEKF until 2017 at the age of 51 due to the gay community, stereotypical body shaming. Thank you for making this and I hope younger gays facing the same worries I had in my youth see this and realize they are accepted just the way they are. There is community in all of us if we let it show.

I am a bear with muscles, hair, a beautiful and harmonious body, an Arab bodybuilder, and my beard is black. All the men and young men love me, but I live in an Arab country where I am suffocating because they reject homosexuality and see that stoning is only for straight people. I need the help of an association or organization to help me seek asylum and leave this country. Help me and save me.

Everything said here is spot on. Including the fact that we have been disrespected in many ways - not just on body image, but of other aspects which have been touched upon in the doc. There's classism and elitism within LGBTQ+ spaces. You deal with it, but it still pisses you off. As much as you want to do something about it, you find something constructive to do so. Just rise above the din and be yourself. I'm proud to calll myself a gay man who is bear-identified and not-so-classicaly chubby. Hell, I'm just me. Good job on this doc, Chris!

So true, same goes for straight men. It’s all about confidence without being arrogant. Nothing worse than an incredibly good looking guy with an amazing body who is so insecure. I briefly dated a guy like that, everyone thought he was amazing but he did nothing but be insecure about everything from his feet (which were perfect) to the smell of his house (didn’t smell of anything) to the colour of a top he was wearing. He was very masculine and straight acting which made it weirder coz it’s not what you’d normally expect. I’m pretty sure he was bulimic but I had no proof

Chris , you are really an awesome person. I have sort of lost faith in the gay community for myself at least. its truly amazing to see someone like yourself trying to make a difference and make documentarys on taboo subjects and especially subjects that I have been waiting for someone to cover. I think what's amazing is also the love and respect you have for your boyfriend. including him in your videos and seeing the kindness you spread. it shows that it comes from a non judgmental place. it sort of brings me away from the narrative that most gay people are not kind or genuine but you are proving me wrong every time you release an amazing documentary like this one showing that there's space for everyone to be happy and proud who they are.

Thank you so very much for this long needed and professionally created video. I could never quite get why many in the gay community reject other gays who don't have the "correct" body shape. And it's not just bears. Sometimes it feels like there's been an on-going battle between gays and lesbians. And way too often transpeople don't get treated the way I believe that they should. We are ONE community and should act as such, strongly supporting one another. Your video is a step in making that happen.

Well done on this documentary. You had lots of good cover video for your interviews, it flowed well...and it was well shot. The interviews were good as well. A friend and I had a conversation just today about confidence and it pertained mostly to people who are older and comfortable with who they are (we were actually talking about nudists and how we admired older and larger men who attend nudist camps and how their nudism radiates their confidence). We also talk about something you brought up about how guys who are conventionally good looking have a head start on the rest of us since they were complimented and admired their entire lives. I was told I was ugly and worthless early on in my life and because it was programmed into me, I carried it with me yet to this day. I thought that once I came out as gay, I would be accepted but because I felt I was unattractive I fell back and never thought I was worthy of being part of the gay community. It's a rough thing to get over. I still don't feel comfortable being around gay guys. I just don't feel good enough. So, when I see pictures of beautiful gay men as couples or in a group, I just figure that I will never fit in and never be able to live fully as a gay man. Anyway, thanks for this video. You did a good job. Keep doing more!! Thanks!

What's attractive is if someone is comfortable in their own skin. I would suggest not focusing so much on your appearance but instead focusing on actual health standards like heart health and blood sugar levels. Guys can be heavy set and healthy and happy at the same time.

I'm 40, and in the 90s when I was a teenager I always felt weird and that something was wrong, why was I attracted to big hairy chubby guys? I didn't quite understand why I was always interested in that particularly type, then in the late 90s early 2000s I found out about bears on the internet, remember seeing for the first time chubby and big men naked, oh man, I remember feeling in paradise, it was surreal. And me as a big fat man myself finally felt that I belong to some group. I'm 6ft5 350 pounds or 1.96m and 170kg which prior to that discovery meant that I was unfit, outcast, unwanted. Thank you BEAR community.

What some gay guys really need to change is their mindset! Why do you gotta make others like your body? Just because other gay guys aren't interested in your physique doesn't mean they're discriminating against you. All you gotta do is accept yourself the way you are, and embrace the fact that others might not find you physically attractive. It's their prerogative!

Did you even watch the documentary? It's not as simple as you wanna make it seem. When the majority of a community ostracizes you, judges you, doesn't want to be around you or associate with you because of how you look, it is extremely hurtful. The community is extremely toxic and we need to acknowledge it.
@Ephebvs
@Ephebvs Ай бұрын
Same with race and color! You can't force yourself on somebody, that's assault. I agree there's no need to be mean and unpleasant to people hitting on you or just making conversation. The gay community needs to lay off the toxicity and have more empathy. I agree with lightening up like the bear guy that said bears are just more compassionate and likely to smile. When I was a teen I thought the gay community would be really a community with guys having camaraderie and being approachable, especially cuz gay men used to be persecuted in the Western hemisphere. I don't get why so much animosity. Gays who act like Heathers and Mean Girls need to chill. Regarding skin color, some people might date or marry within their race for several factors, it might be the demographics of where they live or they just don't want to be fetishized or idealized and just want to be treated normally. It is sad to try to shame someone into going to bed with you. Regarding body types even with a small gay pool in some regions, there's the web, you will find someone. My husband is older than me, a xennial gen X who used to be ripped and now has a dad bod and I love it.

The problem is , is that bigger guys are on the lower scale when it comes to Beaty standards meaning like they have 3/10th chance of another gay guy finding them attractive that’s so easy for you to say when you’re higher on the scale meaning you have more opportunities and “options “ for dating. Keep in mind also in some city’s the gay pool is smaller making chances more slimmer like yeah you can love yourself all you want but at the end of the day most men are going to put looks first because most men are not demisexual. You might never understand it if you haven’t experienced it, it’s like trying to explain to a white person what white privilege is unless they really cared enough to analyze it. Pretty privilege is the same and rather or not you don’t consider yourself pretty there is scale and being slim or skinny looking puts you up a notch in the scale automatically. Beauty standards is a complicated topic because people don’t know how they became to be attracted to the type of people they are when it comes to looks, a lot of people need to look into fascism.(btw im speaking in general so I’m not assuming what you look like/ and yes I am on a weight loss journey)

This video is so revealing and important. Im a 61 yr old fit daddy. I grew up before the bear culture was like it is now and the emphasis was solely on the muscle queens. I was a skinny twink in my younger years, which I hated so much because those muscle guys never noticed me. They were all into each other. Now, I am muscular and everybody wants a "dad bod" to go with the white beard. I just can't win. I'm still attracted to muscle guys but they still aren't attracted to me, even though, now I am closer to one of them. I am jealous of the bear community.

Everyone can be extremely judgmental in the gay community. Really doesn’t matter. The only thing you need to do is make sure YOU are comfy in your body. It REALLY does suck to when you have a crush and it’s not returned. It’s ok not to be attracted to certain body types. You don’t need to announce what it is or what your attracted to. I’m getting kind of tired of gay men who rub their anger and aggressiveness out on people who don’t find them attractive, but then will sit there and know for a fact that there not interested in a certain type either. People really do have people they really would never dare date because of how they look. This isn’t to say we shouldn’t have our own time to vent, but if you are sitting there acting nasty and acting out , I want to truly look inward, love yourself, be patient with yourself and know that you are deserving of love and that there will be people out there willing to give it to you.

@@newagehero9605 some of the people I know that fall into that category are of all different classes. I’m not trying to be fatphobic, mean or hateful at all. I’m just trying to say that we ALL have things we are attracted to and are not attracted to. Im not of conventional beauty standards either. I know what it means to struggle when it comes to it, but the main point I am trying to make is not to make unconventionally attractive people look like VICTIMS. Because that doesn’t breed acceptance it just makes people feel sorry and pity them most of the time. I’m not saying you can’t feel bad or sorry for them sometimes, but framing them as victims isn’t the way to go.
