The condition of the 1877 dime is incredible! Great find! What I think is really fascinating is that the dime with the "cc" mint mark made it's way across the United States, from Nevada to Vermont. No small feat in that era! What a story that old dime could tell, if only it could speak to us ...

Idk if you check your comments down here however i have been taking some jewelry classes and the way we remove oxidization from silver, copper, bronze, brass and pretty much non ferrous metals... you can use whats call a Jewelry pickle. It will clean all your silver right up. However you DO NOT use metal tongs or anything metal (ferrous, anything that contains iron essentially) in the pickle or else it will copper plate your non-ferrous (anything without iron) stuff and that is a pain in the ass. But usually you have a pickle for Silver, one for copper, and one for nickle.. Hope this helps when cleaning up your finds.

Fantastic finds and I am SOOOOOOO happy to see you carry a spray bottle of water with you! I can't tell you how many times I have cringed watching other diggers rubbing off a newly found coin with their sand and grit encrusted gloves and thinking, 'why don't you just take some sandpaper to it while you're at it!' I get that most coppers will have corroded badly, but those silvers can still have a Very Fine or Extra Fine grade to them, so why degrade them any further? I spent almost my entire childhood digging through the woods and abandoned colonial farmhouses in Pennsylvania, so I learned the hard way not to do things like that. You are the first I have seen that exercises some proper care. Kudos!
@GMMD7 жыл бұрын
I completely agree, I find that water can make coppers worse, but silver always gets a spray! Thanks for watching!

I love it when something magical happens. It offsets all those dud days when you hike six miles and only find garbage. Here is my theory: Somebody was indeed sitting on that rock, sometime around 1878 getting crazy drunk. He had a hole in his pocket so as he staggered around they fell out one-by-one in slightly different spots. When he awoke from his stupor he was unaware of his loss.

Very nice finds. Some say swinging from different angles will find you more. Do coins on edge, at the depth you were finding them, ring up well on the AT Pro? Wonder if there are any under the small tree, that got pushed down as it grew. I subscribed and liked both videos. Your language was not that bad, for how crazy exciting what you found was, it was understandable. I loved how you will go try to hunt in 20 or below temperatures, and snow, if ground not froze hard as a rock, I do the same! :) Looking forward to watching your other videos. GL&H continued H!
@GMMD8 жыл бұрын
+Metro Pcw Thanks a lot for the sub and the kind words! I actually find the ATPro is hit or miss sometimes, occasionally after digging a nice target it will be completely invisible to the ATP only to be found with the pinpointer... haven't quite figured that one out yet! Thanks again for watching!
@metropcw69518 жыл бұрын
I had my largest coin spill of about a total of 37 coins about 2 years ago and I went back 2 more times and found more each extra time. They were mostly wheat pennies, about 5 or six non-wheat pennies, 1 foreign coin and one nickel, but no silver, but was still cool to keep finding them. Anyway, have you tried to search that area in pinpoint or all metal mode and with or near maximum sensitivity (I did with CTX). The losing the signal happens to me with different detectors and even the garrett pinpointer a few times. I just keep looking. I am not sure if I heard that detectors can sometimes ground balance a coin out, but I think all metal or pinpoint would find it, unless it fell in or out of the hole near iron. The pinpointer should be able to find it though as an alternative if you just keep searching.
@GMMD8 жыл бұрын
+Metro Pcw Wow, 37 coins!! I always run the ATP all metal and one below max sensitivity, however when the dug target seemingly vanishes even the pinpoint function doesn't find it. Possible because it's on edge, I haven't quite figured why yet! The 0:55 mark of my video titled "Seven Colonial Coin In One Day" has a good example of this!

With the dates it might be possible that they would place the coins in a pouch of some kind that would rot away over the years. See it also maybe that they originally planned to return for the money and for some reason they could not make it back. If only the coin Could talk!
@johnmaddox74325 жыл бұрын
Typically coin spills would come from someone lying down sleeping. You roll around during the night and of course, you don't notice the money gone till later and can't take the time to return if you could even find it. For the time frame, you are looking at more than a day's wages for many people.

Looks like someone used the rock as a headrest and slept there. Looks about the correct distance from head to waist ratio...someone sleeping and rolling around losing things from their pocket. A night's camping/resting got rather expensive for someone.
