Thanks for the video on my room. Next time I’ll get you better pics when I’m not between upgrades. My rack was a mess in many of those pics, and I’m wishing we didn’t show a couple of them lol. It’s amazing how much changed in the last 2-3 mos on the room. 2 new processors (Altitude 16, then 32, then the upgraded circuit board for more channels), 9 speakers (3 21” subs, 4 atmos, front wides), crowsons, acoustic panels, moved the seating around, etc. Today just wrapped up 2 days with pro audio calibrator Adam Peltz out to do my room. It sounds completely different then it did 2 days ago. I went from thinking I’d “upgrade” my speakers to realizing they don’t get much better. I liked at measurements of a bunch of speakers the calibrator had taken, and mine outperform even the Wisdoms he calibrated last week. Pretty happy with how it all turned out.

Great video, thanks for sharing. Outstanding set-up. I must say I was a bit surprised by the dust all over the amps / equipment and the red fabric being loosed. Otherwise fantastic.
@azilko
@azilko 3 жыл бұрын
The dust must have been there as speakers were being installed the day the pics were being taken. The trinnov had the upgrade board put in it in the couple of weeks, so that dust had to have been since that time. It's been non stop upgrades since Dec. The fabric has settled over time, and I agree with you. You can't see it in the theater w/o extra lights (or a low light camera), and both were used to get pics for this project, but I have new fabric that was delivered a few weeks back to replace the stuff on the frames you're mentioning. I just need to get to pulling them down, removing the existing fabric, and putting on new stuff. Not that the existing fabric is bad, I'm sure I can re tension it, but I want to match the color of the other panels.

Wow! Now that's a serious theater! Great job! I'm a big fan of Air Motion Transformers and Audax drivers, I'm sure the Legacy Audio speakers sound great! I've just ordered a Dayton Ultimax 18 for testing. Once it arrives I'll do mechanical noise test and non linear distortion test. If it's any good I'll probably go with six or more of those. Parts Express also has a 21" that looks good so that's another possible option. I lost count in the video of how many 21" and other woofers Adam has in this theater, the low end has to be insane! Great job Adam!

@@hstudio30 If I have time I'll post a video with the distortion measurement results of the Dayton Ultimax. I'm hoping it's going to be a top performer. Finding a big driver to shake your room is easy, finding one with measurably low distortion isn't. It's getting better, in the early days of high excursion drivers it was really bad with 2nd and 3rd harmonics being barely -20 dB down in the 16 ~ 30 Hz region on good ones and bad ones a lot worse than that. I have found a low cost 15" driver from Newark (formerly MCM) with the 2nd and 3rd about -40 dB at 30 Hz, slightly worse below and rapidly better above to over 100 Hz. I plan to use these in the dipole woofer systems on each side of the screen and cut them off at about 30 Hz. I'm hoping the Ultimax will perform well into single digits with little or no mechanical noise. If so, these will be used in infinite baffle to handle the bottom end but the scary thing is, I will not be surprised if they do not out perform the lower cost drivers. The Ultimax's big advantage is the 22 mm peak linear excursion compared to 6 mm on the cheap Newark 15". It takes about 5.5 of the cheap 15's to move the same air as 1 Ultimax 18 but for the price of the Ultimax 18 you can buy 10 of the cheap 15's! So if the 15 has lower distortion, I'll probably go with it. I won't be too surprised if the Ultimax is better below 30 Hz but in the mid bass region, 50 ~ 100 Hz the Newark 15" 2nd and 3rd harmonics are -50 and -60 dB down and I'll be shocked if the Ultimax can match that!
@mfkhometheater7742
@mfkhometheater7742 3 жыл бұрын
@@azilko I bet it does shake the house pretty well;-) In my old theater I had twelve 15" Dayton Reference woofers on each side of the room and despite the fact they were H-frame open baffle dipole they still shook the room pretty well. After a movie I once had a guest ask what kind of bass shakers I had in the seats, I said, "I don't, that's the whole room shaking"! I bet you will have guest asking the same because your three 21's as monopole will have far more output at low frequency than my twenty four 15's had as dipole. Outside of just movies, you need to get the Telarc version of the, "1812 Overture" and play it on that system, I bet the cannons will be amazing!

@@EverythingHomeTheater JVC has the 4500 laser, but it’s a full generation older, and from I’ve been repeatedly told, the NX9 is a better unit. However, sony does have their $90k projector. It’s very cool, but also 112lbs 10k lumens, and just a beast of a machine. Their 5000 would be another option, and I could get one for $29k if I wanted, but I have VERY few complaints w/ mine, I just tossed a new bulb in it, and think I’m good for another year or two.

I mean the wrinkles on the fabric should be embarrassing to whoever installed it. Nice components, and a good start. I don’t want to take anything away from the effort and input, but these suck up comments are crazy. And it only seats five at that price point. And his AV rack is a kitchen shelf? @@jdcook5496 I appreciate your feedback, and would love to respectfully reply (with context). The panels were done by my wife as a bday gift years ago, so complaining didn't seem appropriate (especially considering that she went through brain surgery this year from a tumor, and we've been really focused on that in the last several months). Sure, they could have been done better, but initially, there weren't wrinkles, and the batting sagged over time. When the photos were taken, I was deep in transition from when this video project started, I had new fabric sitting on a roll, waiting to go on, but with other upgrades going on, it didn't happen. It's still on the roll TBH, it's just not been a priority as you don't see this wrinkles when in the room, and I've been more focused on things like my recent upgrade of the screen (to a Stewart 150 - a $5k+ screen) for more brightness. The pics were taken with extra light brought in and/or long exposures to get brighter images. RE the "kitchen shelf". That was purpose. I already had it, and it was a heavy duty rack that wasn't cheap ($400 I believe) and can hold several hundred pounds. And, it was super easy to roll around. I have limited room in the closet it's in as well, and this setup is less in depth than any server rack I can find. This was particularly helpful when my HVAC system need repairs last year, and the new equipment had enough room to get by w/o removing the AV gear. Additionally, I was going through a bunch of upgrades with my existing gear, I wanted the gear to be accessible from that side for a specific reason at the time, and a server rack (which I've used in prior homes), just didn't seem to make sense. Also, out of sight I suppose. I will say that the rack was one of the best decisions I made as it make it very easy to upgrade. Now that I'm sort of playing the game of upgrade a receiver / preamp every 6 mos, I've started to look into if a server rack would make sense as someone recently turned me on to a line of racks that have a smaller footprint that just may work. I do agree that server racks look much better. Oh, and not long after the video was done (as upgrades were literally happening as I was taking pics for this video) the wiring was rerun to look professional. Regarding the costs - I broke down a list of everything before the video, and we came in around that price point. I didn't submit costs that repeated, nor do I feel as though I over paid. HOWEVER, anytime you don't go in w/ the final outcome in mind when building from scratch, it'll always cost more. When the room was initially built in 2014, I worked with the budget I could afford (but it wasn't all that much as the rest of the home was being renovated so we could move in). Trinnov is ~$38k (plus an upgrade board to take it to 24 channels). Projector is $19k. The lens is $9k. The Lumagen is $9k. The speakers are $12-15k just for the L&R. The C is another $10k I believe (but don't quote me). Front subs were $9k. List goes on and on. Crazy how fast it adds up...

Great home, gorgeous car. Cinema room is a superb size. Excellent choice on projector. Front speakers behind the screen, as they should be. 4 subs = bass perfection. A couple of areas for improvement: You'd be better with your centre channel being the same as the left and right. Those horizontal speakers never work as well, and have issues providing consistent frequency response across the listening area. Horizontal speakers make sense for those without an AT screen, but since you have an AT screen, get the right centre channel. Those large surround speakers are too close to the side seats. Whoever sits in those seats is going to get far more sound from one side that the other (even with the fantastic Trinnov). Unfortunately you'd be better with some more modest bookshelf speakers raised up a bit, and slightly behind the front row.

Thanks for the detailed reply. I had Adam Peltz (look him up, he's a VERY high end / and very expensive - but worth every penny - audio calibrator) out, and the placement was adjusted by him. The center blends w/ L&R perfectly (the last song on the Atmos Beatles disc plays w/ vocals spinning around the room on the x axis), Adam played this, and you couldn't tell the front 3 aren't the same. Get to the rest, and of course you can tell. Regarding the sides and rears, that was the room I had to work with. Originally, the "pillars" had speakers built into them, but the Legacy's are far superior in every way, and it's amazing what the Trinnov + Pro Audio Calibrator can do to make things sound good. However, I do agree that more room would be ideal. At some point, maybe I'll have contractors knock out the face of the pillars and flush mount the sides.

@@azilko You're very welcome. I have no doubt that your audio has been setup as well as it can be. The issue with a horizontal centre channel is the lobing caused by the orientation of the woofers to the side of the tweeter (or ribbon). That won't be an issue for your centre seat, but can be for the seats off-centre. I'm sure Legacy have made an effort to combat this problem, whilst providing a speaker that can fit under a screen. It just seems like an unnecessary compromise to me, since you could have had 3 identical speakers without the issue. I take back most of what I said about the side speakers. I think I assumed they were deeper than they are - they're really quite shallow, and with your front wides sharing duties, they probably draw less attention than I thought. With the front wides, I expect the side surrounds could still benefit from being a bit further back, but that's nitpicking. Flush mounting them into the pillars would be nice, as long as it's not making unnecessary mess and dust in your finished room. I hope you're getting a lot on enjoyment out of it all.

Really, really??... Adam could have went with the Trinnov Altitude-16 to leave a little room for growth😆. Seriously, this set-up is Omega db C-weighted slow. I mean Trinnov, Monolith, Legacy combined with a JVC 8k projector triple boosted by a anamorphic Lens & Lumagen... All this neatly tucked away in a minefield (3 subs up front, 2 in the back + bass shakers) DAMN🤩🤩. The coordinated design of his cinema room is nothing to scoff at. The red/black color scheme works really well. I love those columns and sconces, as well as his seatcraft seating, although that second row looks like a sleeping💊 😁. Adam, congrats on Such an amazing set-up! Darkseid should feel every bit overpowering in Your cinema room😆😆😆. Btw, judging by one of the pics it looks like Adam owned McIntosh gear prior to his Trinnov/Monolith combo. I would love to read his thoughts on the sound differences. Sarkis, the home cinematic universe is in the palm of your 🙌. Never let it go 👊

Appreciate the feedback. So funny enough, I had the Altitude 16 for about 3 weeks or so, and swapped to the 32. Then, I ordered one of 2 internal circuit boards to go from 16 to 24 channels. I never had McIntosh gear however. And, yeah, the back row is not really the best setup for seating. It used to be in my front row (w/ large sections to put your feet on), but it didn’t sit up high enough. In the back row, it’s nice that people can still see the screen, but it doesn’t block any of the rear speakers from the MLP. And, I seldom ever have enough people in the theater to need the back row. So it was a calculated risk. If that changes, I actually have an essentially new set of theater seats that I pulled out of the back row when I got the seats I have now. They’re just sitting in my bar area.

Some awesome equipment there and I bet it’s a buzz in there watching films. Please don’t hate though but spending 200k on equipment is all well and good for the best sound and video but I feel it’s almost completely ruined by the messy acoustic panels. Instead of another sub why not spend the money on some neat panels, most of them look a mess.

Yep, room was going through upgrades when the images were taken for the video. The room is dark enough that you can't tell the panels had any wrinkles in them when you walked in the room. And, they were a bday gift that my wife built many years back, so messing with them was a sensitive item.

Why would you need a Lumagen when you have that JVC, seems like a waste of money.
@azilko
@azilko 3 жыл бұрын
The Lumagen does WAY more than what’s remotely possible w/ the JVC. I’d encourage you to research this on AVS. PM Kris Deering, and he’ll explain it as well. The tone mapping on the JVC, and how it processes the image, is nothing alike. Also, when I bought the projector and the DCR lens, the only way to use them (and get dynamic tone mapping) was through the Lumagen as JVC’s firmware at the time didn’t do any of this (nor did it support an anamorphic lens). And at the time, there was no way to know they were working on these items or when they’d be released.
