Fantastic! Although I've worked several other FM satellites, I've still not had any luck with the ISS. I may have to give my UV-25 a go! 73, Ben de M7FRS

I have a UV25. It makes a great weapon.

1:07 was an amazing SAVE, worthy of the Olympics. Certainly not a fail in my book. LOL One of the regulars on a local machine just got one of these radios and the TX audio is very nice indeed, just don't use an external mic. I would say that the TX audio is nearly on par with the IC-7300 and we all know how good that is with the stock mic. The RX audio on your radio Simon sounds equally good. When a manufacturer has the physical space to use larger components, it often leads to better audio and certainly the battery is also much larger here too. As for the Doppler, it is difficult to chase manually and nearly impossible with push buttons, so the fact that you did so well was just amazing! I think the only limitation to this HT is the antenna when working ISS. For that I think you need a small dual band Yagi. Keep up the great work M8. 73 👍

hi there!! how is possible to listen to ISS if is obviously on a very high altitude? great video ❤

I had a lot of fun starting out with a UV5R and homemade bamboo yagi. Then I added another cheap HT so I could have full duplex but suffered from alot of desensing. It's very hard to work sats if you don't have reliable full-duplex. Now I work sats on a ic-9700 indoors with a cheap rotator. My antennas are homemade TPM-II design. My favorite sats are IO-117, RS-44, JO-97, ISS, SO-50, Tevels and XW-2B. 73 KF0NKI

Simon, be warned that satellite QSOs are VERY addicting!!! I did some of that when I was fist licensed, 2 HTs and a Arrow brand yagi antenna. Lots of fun in a short timeframe! Enjoy and 73, Mike~NG9B

I'd try a dual band flowerpot antenna and get up somewhere high if you just casually trying to work the ISS. I use two ht's and a arrow II hand held dual band Yagi myself. SO50 is easier because the pass is a lot longer.

Great Video. I've been wanting to try doing this and suspected it would take a few attempts. When you had to get off the radio because you had a gig reminded me of all the times I'm on my radios before a gig. I always find that missing (from my log book) contact five minutes before I have to leave for a gig and then can't get through the pile up in five minutes. There seems to be quite a few moving parts to deal with if you want to reach the ISS. Thanks again...73...Hugh...KN6KNB

G'day Hugh, thanks for your comment buddy. The satellite stuff is a total blast mate, OMG it's pretty fun - the time is limited, and then you're kind of competing with big stations that have beams and power. It's a total blast mate, I would highly recommend having a go at it.

holding the other antenna in your hand near the antenna u are testing might somewhat disrupt the pattern of the antenna under test. Nice video mate. I might have to buy one if those new UV25 radios. 73 from Australia VK3VKE

G'day mate, thanks for watching and leaving a comment. It is a beast of a radio mate - the size is massive haha! It is pretty powerful, and the battery life seems to be awesome. Hope the weather is starting to warm up down there in VK3 land. Cheers mate!

Hey man, I saw in some videos, after removing the battery, there is a "10W" sticker. My UV25Ls have a sticker with the letter M. Do you know what can be the difference? How can I test if my radio is 10W as I am afraid it's not...
@RandallRash2 ай бұрын
With a tape measure yagi you would be racking up Satellite contacts.
@tonyp40922 ай бұрын
One thing about this radio is that the programming cable from Radioddity WILL NOT fit the UV-25. Secondly, I suggest that you throw out the antennas that came with the UV-25 as they are junk and get a Nagoya, Signal Stick, or something along those lines. I own two of these and with the antenna upgrade they make a decent HT. The extended battery life is worth the extra weight.

Personally im done buying cheap ht's. All my baeofangs are garbage.
@bulldogbrower67322 ай бұрын
It’s not the Baofeng, it’s the lack of a Yagi antenna to direct the signal in a single direction.
@mcdonald17432 ай бұрын
@@bulldogbrower6732 I may get an arrow antenna to try and experiment and see if that works. I can get into repeaters with my good radios, but my baofengs can't activate them. Maybe a directional antenna could work.
