Unbelievable n Rare... 8 loco hauled Goods Train at Karjat

Passing Karjat yard in Sinhagad Express I sighted a Long freighter with 8 wrking locos attached... Assumed them to be bankers/brakers but then the whole train started moving out n crossed towards the station. Unsure if Any loco disconnected thereafter.

Only 6 locomotives are useful because last 2 locomotive's pentograph is down.

Last Two are the Originals. The other 6 are Brakers... 2 sets of 3 joined together to get all down the Ghats simultaneously apart from playing their role due to the excessive load n length of the freighter.

@@naturailclicks7963 I did not get it. 'originals' means pantograph is down, then how they are able to give traction? or breakers are the ones giving traction as well, and since the train is climbing downhill, no locomotive at the tail end?

@@joshihemant2568 A cable is used to couple Locomotives.... Pantograph down....that doesn't means loco is not active.

Can express train or a passenger trin can need a breaker while coming down from the ghats?(like thal and bhor).

No. But all trains have a compulsory brake testing halts three times in the ghats.

@0:22 The last two locos are dead locomotives. Hence we can say that it is being hauled by 6 locos. Just a minor correction. No hard feelings 😊

You are perfectly correct.. These were 2 sets of Brakers, with 3 in each consist, attached to the Twin Leading Locos thus totalling 8... The original locos are often Dead or Inactive, as the Brakers are in charge when downhill, unlike when Banking Uphill. Certainly no Offence taken, buddy.

The Last Two are the Main Locos which play no role.. the leading 6 are Brakers with Their own Ghat or Mountain LPs... (3 sets of Two MUed locos or Two sets of Triple MUed locos) which are pressed into service for Psngr trains 22 coaches or more and for heavy loaded Freights when coming downhill. Hence the original locos and LPs 'take a Break!'

These are not heavy cargo. These are very valuable cargo, probably defence cargo. So six engines are there and those two are standby. In case one engine fail, then that will take over. Anyway never seen more than five engines at one train.

Usually Defence Cargo wud not be Unmarked or Unescorted. However, when coming downhill with very heavy loads, or if a train is beyond 21 coaches, Brakers are attached to the original locos in front and detached at base again, following which the original takes charge n departs. Seen here are 2 sets of Brakers (with 3 locos each) attached to the Original Twin Locos.

When coming down the Ghats, as is seen here, these act as Brakers, for coaches or freighters beyond a particular length or load. Also, they are often brought down together to save seperate runnings n time.

Yeh engine sab Brake lagane ke liye hai. Pahar ke upar se jab niche Jane ke samay jyada load hone pe Braker engine lagaya jaata hai. Waise he Niche se pahar chadne par bhi 4,5 engine lagaya jaata hai.
