Footage taken in Eskdale, Esk Valley. A huge wall of water quickly rose and swamped the area, leaving behind a thick layer of mud and damage everywhere.

The guy at 2:17 His name is Harley Benton. An ex officer in the RNZN. He was my tutor when I was studying to be and Electrical Engineer. One day he told our class that if Napier was ever to flood in the Waiohik area, the power station at 1:12 would completely go out of action. Which would lead to the loss of most of the Hawkes Bay regions power system. He was 100% right. That power station was completely submerged during the floods which is why we haven’t had power in Napier for the last few days. It isn’t a big job diverting an entire regions power supply. Stay safe out there Whānau. 💔😭

i worked on the diesel generators built in whirinaki back about late 2004 ish. That is Napiers back up. Has enough diesel on site to run Napier for about week . That was disabled by the esk river blowing out completely. So yes ,Napier does have a back up ,but due to all rivers flooding , Napiers back up was disabled too . Very very sad

What a stinking damn mess! Where do you start with the clean up and where do you dispose of the mess? Find the missing people first, if at all possible. Then clear the roads to get things in and out. Next start clearing and cleaning out the houses so people have some shelter when the weather changes. Chins up, Kiwis, your Aussie cousins are thinking of you in your time of need. Earthquake and wind resistant, particularly the timber ones. Usually older generation, which withstood the earthquakes generally better than some more modern materials. But such construction cannot withstand fire and floods when someone has chosen to build in a serious risk area. Some tourist/holiday locations, as well as urban sprawl are disasters waiting to happen. Being next door to Australia and their fire destruction record of housing etc shows how little has been learned when the housing location is analysed for fire/flood risk. If you are going to build in historic river channels, erosion prone locations and combustible fuel the risks are extreme.

People chiming in trying to blame this and that, it doesn’t help, no one is to blame and you’re not making anyone feel better trying to pass it on. This is, in all sense of the word, a disaster. This is my home town, I have friends and family affected by this tragedy and we need positivity and help. Not, it’s their fault, or this is the reason. You want to blame industry, fine, be poor and not be able to afford to clean this up then, and don’t put your hand out to that Industry and ask for help either.

No chance, they didn’t have to answer after the Nelson floods when all the slash came down. The councils own a lot of the forestry blocks, so there won’t be any talk of an enquiry. The forestry industry bank the profits, and leave the public to deal with the wilding pines and environmental damage, that’s what you get when your government answers to big business before the taxpayers.

A country and it's citizens that has been divided by the Labour government will now have to put their differences aside and work together as a whole country, for the better of their country. The treaty of Waitangi should now be scrapped for the benefit of all citizens

It's not any type of cyclone,it's pat on our backs by ALLAAH,for we are most loving people, caring people, just people, believers in God and his last messenger MUHAMMAD sallalahualayhiwasallam, Also we rich peoples.take care of poor, that's why this is a gift from God So ,better accept Islam noW before neveR Don't question God why should we help poor it's a way of testing by God so we cannot question God today HE will test the wealth by you, tomorrow by us,so solely ALLAAH'S sovereignity 😭🤲
